Is Rain Dance TR Farigiraf a good partner for M-Golisopod? You essentially get a free trick room up if they don't lead with a Fire mon since they have to play around Pod either First Impressioning or Swords Dancing, and then can Rain Dance if they swap into Zard or another fire mon. Just don't know if using one of Farig's moves for Rain Dance is ideal, compared to devoting a team slot to Pelipper or something.

Im running it with trick room support under rain and it is pretty good, Though this is low ladder and once opponent catches on, it probably over. Still though, goli hits insanely hard, and noone really wants to eat his hits even on neutral.

Doing Monotype is a really fun limitation, but yeah making a team balanced type-wise is often easier than having to work without common tools. My type's sole Fake Out user is not in the game yet (Palossand???), so you have to play the game in a different way than other people. Just switching can be a much more hazardous prospect on monotype teams than in mixed teams, so you need to careful planning and good reads.

There's no single mon that's going to dethrone Zard.
You need to think of this as opportunity cost, we need enough mons that outvalue Zard Y for it be a lesser choice than another.
This could happen in a sub-legendary format, maybe. It will definitely happen in a restricted format.

Salamence fills the same role as Dnite in terms of Zard matchup. What's likely to happen is that Charizard's partners get a little shake up to mitigate that matchup or they just use Floette.

I've been using him a bit, he's going to be niche but he's a surprisingly good niche. Using stuff like WIll-o-wisp has been good for crippling physical attackers and I've been catching Indeede's and Giraffe's off with U-turn just enough to finish them off. You know those Floette/protect the queen teams?
I think Salamence could be a good second mega in that setting. Set up a light screen, have Mence dragon dance, use Sinistcha to heal up, and Incin to fake out, Intimidate, and flare blitz ice types.
Mence will find several teams that it can run on, but despite its insane single target damage output, many other megas outrun it in spread damage these days.

It's just not worth as a main mega, duh, but it's not even worth a side-mega.
Frankly, it doesn't even function as a side-mega because then if you wanna use it special you'll have a special base garchomp that'll hit like a sissy. It's contradictory as a whole.
The muh surprise aspect is worthless in open sheet and in closed sheet it never works in practice because normal mega is fucking worthless and since base special garchomp is a sissy then you have to mega it right away so it's useful.
The only "way" to use it as a "surprise" is to use it physical but it all but requires a set-up move so it can hit hard but then you're wasting half the point of the mega and the only really viable way to use it that way is to tech draco meteor but then you do the calcs and the meteor doesn't hit as much as you'd think.
It's simply not worth the opportunity cost in any shape whatsoever. It's mediocre in all aspects and tailwind and trick room are back at the forefront to deal with psychic terrain neutering priority so even the 151 speed won't be doing as good as you'd think.
The absolute blunder of the century. I seriously don't understand why GF still thinks this is gen 4 where Garchomp is a monster capable outclassing even the cover legendaries so it refuses to make it "broken" and keeps thinking it has to "balance it" so it doesn't "break the game".
Well, third time's the chance. Maybe the G-Max move in Legends Galar will be a Wildfire clone or something.

newb here. what're everyone's impressions on grapploct? technician storm throw + mach punch is an absolutely insane upgrade, but i'm having a bit of trouble whenever i run into megamence. i usually pair it with farigiraf to protect+trickroom, but farigiraf sometimes has trouble dealing with aerialate hypervoice and the other pokemon using a powerful move on it. maybe weavile (with white herb?) could be a good partner?

after 5 straight hours of testing, I can confidently say Pawmot outclasses Sneasler in the classic Froslass Scov team, switching out Lycanroc for Rillaboom is debatable but I liked it a lot too, both pair up really well with both megas and revival blessing memes work since the megas are so good
