>>59618101>>What Pokémon did you have the most trouble recruiting?exeggcute in rt is torture>>Have you ever actually used legendary Pokémon after recruiting them?not many>>Are there any later-gen Pokémon you think would work well for NPC gimmicks? (Like Crogunk's Swap Shop or V-WHEEEEL?)pmd has a lot of cafes so imma roll with alcremie for a fitting choice.>>Do you think different types have different berries they prefer, just like with gummis? Also, where do gummis come from?i feel like berries are more of an individual preference rather than a type thing (honestly gummis specifically being tasty by type always seemed weird to me).>where do they come fromsame place the donuts and chocolate originate from duhhh
>>59618101>What Pokémon did you have the most trouble recruiting? This is an odd one, but in PSMD, in the Spanish script, the text string that tells your where a wandering Pokémon is once you've ran out of missions was translated badly, and doesn't tell you the dungeon they are at. (It just says they are "in the dungeon".) So I had to run trough all dungeons that can spawn mission to get my missing roamers, with Zangoose taking the longes. If I had to do it again, I now know that you can change the system setting to change the language of the game to see where the wanderer actually is.>Have you ever actually used legendary Pokémon after recruiting them?Mew in Explorers of Darkness, as my fast friend mon.>Are there any later-gen Pokémon you think would work well for NPC gimmicks? (Like Crogunk's Swap Shop or V-WHEEEEL?I'll kill myself if Gimmijew replaces the storage box. I'd much rather have a box for item and money storage.>Do you think different types have different berries they prefer, just like with gummis? Also, where do gummis come from?More than the berries themselves, I'd see specific types favoring specific berry flavors (the ones in mainline). For this to be a discussion, we'd need more than just two HP restoring berries and status clearing berries that get outclassed by the heal seed.
Why people don't use nuzleaf as a main character for stories?
>>59618791Why DOES it have napples?
>>59618797Almond milk
>>59618786Refreshing to know that English wasn't the only language with a poor translation of Super. Are there any other weird translation errors in Spanish?
>>59619085Idk about the Japanese scripts, so I wouldn't be able to tell mistranslations. The only other one I can think of is that, when interacting with the stairs through the ground option, the names "stairs" is in all lowercase, which is kinna sloppy. Not much of a surprised that the Super translation is sloppy. In PAL versions, the hero is locked to male, and the partners to female cos they couldn't add gender differences to the scripts.
>>59618791>humanoid, but not furry>ugly evo line except Seedot>dark type (in PMD this means you're 100% gonna be evil)
>>59619633Do we know who localized Super? Weird it turned out so sloppy compared to the previous games.
>>59619685>>dark type (in PMD this means you're 100% gonna be evil)Isn't that poison type?>Team Meanies>Team Skull>GTI Toxicroak
>>59620192>Lers just implement futuristic magitech into a rustic settingPSMD WAS A MISTAKE
>>59620112Don't psychic types in PMD have a worse track record too with Drowsie and Munna?
>>59620795>alakazam>celebi>lake trio>medicham/gardevoir>jirachiIt's a mixed bag but typically positive.
>>59620221technology is not solely a modern concept
>>59618101>what pokemon did you have the most trouble recruiting?Areodactly, I have notoriously bad rng, I’m super bad at gacha games>have you ever used a legendary Pokemon after recruiting themOnly a couple times, max is 4 times>Are there any later-gen Pokémon you think would work well for NPC gimmicks?Like what anon here said >>59618786 , Gimmighoul would be the best choice>Do you think different types have different berries they prefer, just like with gummis? Also, where do gummis come from?I feel like Faity types would like the sweet flavoured ones, Fire types would obviously spicy and normal types prefer bland. And gummies I feel like would have to have been made
>>59620839Yeah but the only real evil dark type is Darkrai, Absol was nice
If I had a nickel for everytime a PMD artwork had a pawmot in it
>>59623101It's already got the hair tuft so it doesn't surprise me.
>>59622420At least half the villains in Super were dark types.
Anyone here played Explorers of Spirit? Is it Worth a playthrough?
>>59624940It's fucking dogshit, half of the game is just vanilla explorers with small changes in dialogue. The gameplay is also piss easy. The only reason people talk about it is because it is the first full length skytemple hack.
i want to play through explorers of fortune again now that there's a new update but i have no idea who to pick as my starter/partner combo
>>59625401Explorers of Alpha btfo Fortune. Fortune was made by a retarded troon. You can tell a lot about the competency of a hack/gamedev by how they word their changelogs.
>>59625392adorable lizardlooks very polite
>>59625425i waa debating trying alpha but (excuse my autism) the ui changes are putting me off and fortune looks like it adds more content overall, i don't really care who made it if the hack is fun
>>59625565I'm sorry Anon, but if you prefer adding 7 or so nugen mons to each dungeon for recruitment first and (doubtfully) for dungeon balance second over hand designing dungeon enemy composition, you must be a retard. You can only use 4 mons at a time, the 4th party member has a hard time following the leader, and if you're rotating mons in and out of your team, you'll have around 6 tops. Going for fulldex completion in PMD in general is already CBT.Dumping Pokémon for the sake of recruitment will affect what enemies you face way more than what mons you use.If you want to use whatever nugen mons you want, hack them in yourself, and you won't have to stick to whatever movepool, IQ group and stat growth the trannie added, on top of dungeon balancing being tossed off only to accommodate for the two mons you want to use.And before you bring up the QoL, Fortune's QoL is mostly patches you can download in Skytemple in a matter of minutes, whereas many of Alpha's additions are custom made for Alpha.
>>59624940Like the other poster mentioned it recycles too much from the Sky story. It takes until the expedition arc for things to actually differ a bit more than minor dialogue/cutscene changes. And even then I'd say 70% of the hack's time you are just playing Sky again. It was mildly interesting at the time it came out since it was the first full-length story hack, but I don't think it is worth playing now. The only memorable thing about it is this cutscene.
>>59624940There's not really any other good full-length hacks but there's plenty of nice shorter ones if you don't mind that. Other than the clover guild hacks, I remember liking the halloween havoc hack even if its difficulty balance felt way too easy until the final boss which felt way too hard. Cute custom sprites though.>>59625401If you just want QoL there's a bunch of other hacks, and you can easily import in your own starter combo these days. If you want a completely new take on PMD gameplay you could always try PMDO.
>>59625814Same energy
>>59618101>>Are there any later-gen Pokémon you think would work well for NPC gimmicks? (Like Crogunk's Swap Shop or V-WHEEEEL?)If they ever bring back the cafe, Polteageist serving gummi tea would be a neat choice.
>>59628276Lame headcanon.I stuff a leather mask with dried flowers to create a filter mask to cancel the slop pheromones.
>>59628910no anon you don't get it, the artwork can ONLY be seen on twitter where you CANNOT search for it.
>>59628319The leather was of course fireproofed. Also corrosionproofed and hardened to resist phisical force.
editing PSMD models is a nightmare, do not recommend
>>59629889What angle are you approaching it at?
>>59629835I like the rescue team badge more than the explorers badge. Is that weird?
>Nuzleaf gets fucking confused in the tutorial dungeon and hits me with a Feint Attack, killing me instantlyWHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
>>59630208It's a little thing called foreshadowing.
>>59630208I love shenanigans like that, and I'd rather have them occur in the tutorial dungeons, with no items to loose, than 30 floors deep into a postgame dungeon.Btw, when you retried the dungeon after fainting, did you still have to do the 1st floor tutorial? Or were you free to act?
>>59629892It's secured too heavily to be easy to knock off or steal.
>>59630300If I pull that off, would you die?
>>59630312No, you would die.Because you leave yourself wide open to counterattack while trying to pull it off.
>>59629923I tried to rip them straight from the ROM and put them into my model editor, but after I edited and then re-exported and repacked, the game didn't like it. This time I'm going to see if just grabbing them off modelers resource and then packing it into a bch will work. I'm trying to replace the Scarf model on one of the mons with another, just to see if it's possible.
>>59630386didn't work eitherIt's over.
>>59630386I'm really curious. What are you working on? Are you able to share?
>>59630825I was literally just trying to give Totodile the different model for the in-game scarves; Totodile has a bowtie in base and I wanted to give him the scarf from Charmander. I failed, unfortunately, since the game seems to be autistic about what is repacked into its files. If anyone wants to give it a shot though I can send you all the things to get started
>>59630386I don't know anything about repacking game files (only unpacking them) but I vaguely know (of) a few people who might? try //tumblr/itreds-neurons
>>59630208It'd be way too much effort for something so small, but I wish the games would have little extra dialogue for extremely niche situations like that. Or maybe do what Shiren 6 did and have achievements for getting yourself into rare situations, like an enemy throwing you directly into a monster house.
To whoever's running the new lore doc, would you mind adding a section on what's actually inside Capim Town? Thinking of having a scene where my characters go around and visit a bunch of shops and whatever, but I can't remember all that many and I'd prefer not to make up redundant locations.
>>59631653I didn't put them in the lore doc since a bunch are already mentioned in the locations page, I can put a condensed version onto the lore doc in the future thoughhttps://rentry.org/CloverLocations#capim-town-and-environsOther than the places listed there I can't remember any other specific stores mentioned in stories other than generic Kecleon shops, but I could be forgetting some. I looked through some older stories to see if I could find anything and in Overelming Week it's mentioned there's a small library in Capim itself and a bakery run by an Alcremie.
>>59632750Wow I'm stupid, I can't believe I missed that. Thanks!
>>59633125Uh.
>>59633125>cat noises instead of dog noises>hideous color scheme>obviously a fetish>not even pmd
>>59630386It’s a shame 3DS pmd romhacking never took off, I do remember some anon here save editing for custom Super starter teams years ago though

>>59634711Wasn't there a scenario in sky where if you failed the first job from the guild multiple times you got dragged in wigglypuffs room, told you suck at your job, and got a bunch of pity supplies like reviver seeds?

>>59635945Has anyone actually ever used side path to grind? Always felt kinda pointless to me.
>>59634711>failing to recover the stolen itemISHYGDDT
>>59636669Only by accident twice as a kid during two dungeons in Rescue Team I believe. There's definitely a reason they stopped doing it in later games.
>>59636669I used to think that the side branch was a lame "memory puzzle" about whetever you remember which Dungeon you were supposed to go to, rather than a grind spot.I always took the side branch just because I wanted to know what happens if I pick the "wrong" dungeon name.Nowadays, I still always do the side branch once because of a special kind of completionist autism. It's a missable dungeon that I cannot enter again once I am past it so I have to explore it at least once, even if it's a crappy one.But after one run, I then take the main branch because grinding the side branch wuld slow down the momentum of the run.
>>59636669I feel like it only really served much purpose in Rescue Team. Articuno can fuck you up hard, especially if you've got a Grass partner.
>>59636960Weird they never really tried to expand the idea by just giving you two dungeons you could take with different types of pokemon, so you could take the dungeon that's better for your team (or worse if you want to challenge yourself)
>>59637341Guess it would add more to the "explorers" theme of PMD2. I don't see it being very fun since you have to enter the dungeon to see what pokemon are in it, though. Unless the partner starts listing off all the types of pokemon inside each dungeon like an encyclopedia before you enter.
I wish I could purr.
>>59637341My guess as to why they haven't done that is because you'd be adding a dungeon you haven't done before to the mission pool.Though iirc, in Gates there are two batches non story dungeons that unlock around when you get access to missions, and at the postgame, and they can have missions even if you haven't been there. And Super's missions take place almost exclusively in non story dungeons.
>>59637447I mean, they could just make it very obvious from the name of the dungeon being related to fire/water/ice/grass/whateverAlso surprising to me that they never did what mainline did and have a boss that changes depending on what starters you picked, though I guess the oddball starter choices throw a wrench into being able to do that easily.
>>59637701Contrary to popular belief, this is not the furry general.
>>59637701Me too.
>>59637004Are the RT legendary birds the hardest PMD bosses? I never really see anyone complain about any of the boss fights in Explorers as much, though maybe people had a better grasp of MD gameplay by then.
>>59639691Zapdos ain't that bad, especially when you can realistically have a recruit you've been giving some gummies to. Moltres is rougher, mostly due to the level jump. Articuno's Powder Snow is straight up unfair and not okay to pit the player against. If it decides to spam that move, you just lose.
>>59639691Dialga's roar of time was pretty bad but every other boss is a pushover
>>59639691>>59639728Pmd bosses are nightmares if you fight them head on like a man but pretty easy if you use items like sleep seeds and status effects like confusion, aswell as debuffs.Unless you abuse Spindas Cafe in EoS to snap the game in half.
>>59639691The grand master of all things bad fight in sky FUCKED me over as a kid because I refused to grind levels or use the cafe, and my hero/partner were both weak to ground types. Fuck diglet and fuck his schizo sea-loving father.
>>59640055>fight them head on like a manSpamming STAB attacks is gonna get you killed a lot quicker because you're playing like a lobotomite. Statuses are necessary to keep you alive, but they're just too powerful and there's not a strategy with switching between pokémon like in mainline. Statuses are just so game breaking that room clearing moves are the only way to make a boss consistently challenging. One-on-one encounters kind of just break the game, it doesn't work
>>59641373>Spamming STAB attacks is gonna get you killed a lot quicker because you're playing like a lobotomite. That's my point. They are all more powerful than you but also dumb as a sack of bricks. That's why you don't fight them like a man but fight dirty. This is actually common roguelike design, though most roguelikes are more complicated than "Confuse Ray" or "Sleep Seed" and win or I guess Stun seed if there are more than one.
This might be the most scuffed official sprite
>>59642247There is probably much worse if yo look hard enough. But Ranger does have much better sprites, mostly owing to their higher resolution and not cramming bigger Pokémon into a resolution meant for simple base forms. However PMD does have nicer color pallets in my opinion. But PMD has the better gameplay and story then Ranger in exchange. And I guess most roguelikes have kinda bad sprites, I mean look at DCSS and Caves of Qud, they make PMD look good in compairson.
>>59640879Reminded how I always missed this optional scene before the expedition as a kid. I'm pretty sure it's the only optional scene like this in the game, very weird they gave it to Dugtrio of all Pokemon.
>>59643129what happened to chespin...
>>59643539A certain Rowlet took him out back and shot him.
>>59642411I mean, original Rogue was ascii. The first MD game was probably the nicest looking traditional roguelike of the time. Happened with a lot of early RPGs now that I think about it, early PC RPGs were pretty ugly or ascii and Japanese console ports put a lot more effort into presentation.
>>59644893Why the fuck does he look like that?
>>59644927What do you mean? Looks rather accurate to the canon design.
>>59643991>The first MD game was probably the nicest looking traditional roguelike of the time.U mean Torneko.Yeah, Torneko Mystery Dungeon was pretty.
>>59645148I meant Torneko since Shiren 1 is called MD2 (Not to be confused with Shiren 2, thank god they dropped that dumb naming scheme real quick.)
>>59641396>though most roguelikes are more complicated than "Confuse Ray" or "Sleep Seed" and win or I guess Stun seed if there are more than one.I feel like it's common for roguelikes to always have one or two busted strats, though I think a lot of the long-running ones constantly get patches to try and nerf stuff like that. Now I'm imagining Chunsoft constantly patching older PMD games to remove busted strats>Silver Wind and similar room-hitting moves all nerfed to have only like 1PP
>>59646623Confuse Ray Vulpix is insane vs solo bosses.
>>59646623Caves of Qud had CUDGEL STUNLOCK INSANITY!!!Haven't figured out DCSS and ADOMs overpowered gimmicks yet.But status effects are consistently powerful in these games which is why most of them give enemies resistances, unlike PMD where Vulpix can just confuse enemies on demand cuz Vulpix is just that awesome and epic.
>>59647065Caves of Qud is tranny slop. I expect nothing less than retarded unbalanced combat
>>59642247I always thought munchlax's starter sprites looked off.
>>59647525Never questioned some of these before. Why is his head so big?
>>59647675Stylisation to fit him into a tiny sprite.
>>59647675For me, it's the side sprite. Never liked how it looked.
I edited the Munchlax sprites to just have his eyes closed all the time. Looks way better and is more fitting.

>>59618101 I like the school sections in PSMD
>>59650223>I like the school sections in PSMDAYYYYYYYYY!!!You ragebaited me!!!
I didn't like the entire main quest of Super. The school arc was far too long and boring.I really didn't like the new guild.I really didn't like Enteis character in that game.I didn't like the anime bullshit plot with the tree at the end.I absolutely hated the villain at the end.If we just rate the main quest, GTI would actually win. But Super has an extensive postgame, which is basically most of the game.I don't know if the new guild is really that bad or if I am biased towards the GTI guild, but I did really enjoy the Paradise squad so I can't be that biased.
I hate all the 3d games. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I hate the entire franchise. PMD is only a vehicle for making fanfics and art where Pokémon FUCK. Nothing else matters.
Jokes aside, PSMD really was bad. I've seen more coherent fanfics from 10 years ago that flowed better than PSMD. I don't know why the writers got up there and insisted on writing a 2015 PMD fanfic.
And I though only I disliked the story of Super. But I did, despite the weak post game, enjoy the main story of GTI.
>>59650223it was pure comfykino
I have never played the 3D games and have no opinion of them
>>59636669I didn't use them to grind, but I always made sure to visit them when they came up
I didn't like Gates' story much, but it does have the best supporting cast because they actually get some development. With Super I didn't mind the school segment, but throwing it all away and making the entire first half of the game irrelevant in favor of "lol let's do Wigglytuff's Guild again" was baffling. It almost felt like one writer did the first half and then passed it down to another writer to do the other half. And then the whole Mew__ shit just dragged down the plot even further.
>>59650630Agreed, would've probably been better if they had stuck with one concept for the main plot instead of trying to do both.
How do you guys feel about Valiant Heart?
>>59651827I haven't watched it, but from little that I've seen, I dislike the visual and audio design. I find it dizzying when the camera is too close to the sprites. Despite everything being pixel art, even when characters, backgrounds and others are at the same scale, they aren't aligned, so you see half pixels in the background around the characters. Effects portraying emotions don't look like in pmd. The sound effects are off, specially the text print one. Also I don't care for paradox pokemon. It overall feels like a PMD2 skinwalker. And I think I'd find all of it too distracting all throughout.(Text in the images is irrelevant)
>>59650539
Which version of adventure squad is the best to play?
>>59653339Storming has Wooper so that one. Granted, i'm pretty sure you're intended to move teams between the 3 frequently.
>>59653357Is the main differences just the pokemon you get?
>>59650272explorers of sky is genuinely one of the best games i've ever played, outside of that the games are definitely lacking in story and/or artstyle (the 3d games) and/or gameplayit's cool to imagine a world where there are many more games across many genres where you play as a pokemon in a world with only pokemon in it, but with roughly only pmd existing there's still so many comics and fanfics out there so it's not so bad.
>>59654064Hopefully with the massive success of Pokopia they might create more spinoffs focused on the Pokémon only.
GTI is underrated because EOS is better. But GTI is a great game with a fun story and good characters. I enjoyed the town building gimmick and the two minigames. And the 3D art with the beautiful models is objectively better than the squeezed sprites.Rescue Team is also a solid fun dungeon crawler.Only Super has a bad story and Rescue Team DX has ugly art.I think EoS spoiled everyone and harmed the other games by being too good.
>>59654133The small roster and poor postgame hurts it too. There should have also been more story elements to the latter beyond the player returning to the Pokemon world. Something with Munna's group for example.
>>59654133RTDX does that annoying thing that a lot of Japanese games have started doing where they don't want to look like real worlds with real characters. They want to look like toys or drawings. I think they did a nearly perfect job at portraying Rescue Team the way they wanted to, but the end product just takes me out of the experience because it looks extremely fake and I hate it
I can't explain why but the art style and/or the camera perspective of GTI gives me a fucking headache. Getting old sucks bros.
Howdy /pmdg/.I normally only ever lurk here and mainly come here because of the Clover Guild stories, but I wanted to contribute a little bit more than I think I can normally.I've only played EOS and GTI and I liked them both, the former stuck with me a lot more though. I know you gents like playthroughs (Should I call it a Let's Play?) so I thought it'd be fun to play through Rescue Team for you since I've only ever seen a TAS of it and never really got into it. At least, I wanna do that before I hop onto playing SMD since I know that's a huge celebration of the entire series.I was thinking of playing through the Switch remake, but seeing the comments here I might just play Blue Rescue Team instead... (I have a TV above my monitor so it makes for a cool dual screen setup! :D)So, what do you guys suggest? Anything I should know so I can keep you all up to date on my adventure without just spamming the board with dozens of images posted shortly after one another?
>>59655201Before I forget again, right now I don't have very much time to stay up late and play games, so I'd only keep this going every say Thursday and Friday and maybe Saturday. I don't know if anyone cares about that sort of schedule, but I'd like to mention it just in case.
>>59655201If you pick Blue, expect your allies to be pretty stupid. Either way, i think original/remake play so differently that both might as well be separate games entirely.Which stories have you read?
>>59655210Well.Whatever looks better for everyone here, which I assume is gonna be Blue.I've been reading all the stories in publishing order, still at the ones published in 2023. I'm gonna read Ross Goes Shopping next.
>>59655201Yeah I'd definitely go for Blue. People have posted their playthroughs here before. Screenshot LPs are cool. Sounds like a cool setup for your PC btw.Sorting by publishing order is insanely based.
>>59655470That's 2 GB I can free from my computer, at least... I'll go for Blue and mostly take screenshots of the main screen, but I'll try to find a way to share both screens whenever needed. (I don't know if that really happens much like it did in EoS.)My setup is admittedly really dinky, I just had a TV I wasn't really using so I hung it up on my wall above my monitor. I use that as a stank monitor and very occasionally use it for conveniences like checking OBS while recording something or having a VC on a second screen. Sometimes I play Zelda Four Swords Adventures streaming my TV screen to a stinky Chinese Android emulation thing and using it as fake GBA connectivity. But of course I can't not use it to play DS games and 3DS games with the real dual screen experience.I wanna sort by publishing order both because I assume a lot of people write their shit in chronological order mostly and I want to be able to notice writers improve over time. I think that shit's cool. I wonder if any of the writers there think their old work is cringe, because I sure don't.
>>59655210I'd say that the AI in DX is more stupid just on the fact that they go after items on the floor even if the bag is full. It makes the "Let's go together" option useless. The following AI is at its worst with a 4th party member trailing you, which you'll rarely have, plus in the postgame, you can eventually do solo exploraation just fine.
>>59655482If you want to see improvement over time, you'd have an easier time noticing it if you go anon by anon instead of boincing from anon to anon based on who publised first.Even when stories reference a story from a diferent anon where they're featured, it stays as a reference. The rest of the story is self contained to the anon's own work. Also you'll have an easier time seeing the cronology of an anon's story reading trough it without boincing between anons. For example, Growlither's chepets 1 to 6 take place along the same day, but going off cronollogically, there are about 41 other stories in between.
>>59655500That sounds particularly not good. That sounds like the type of thing that should've been removed after being put into practice, wow.Alright, I can't imagine DX being worth the experience. To Blue Rescue Team it is...>>59655510I guess. It's not something I'm really going out of my way for, though. Just something to notice in passing while I read story after story. Why is all this Clover Guild talk spoilered, anyway? I'm following the anon that started it, but I'm starting to think this is a bit unnecessary now...
>>59655619Honestly I only spoilered at first since it wasn't about the potential screenshot lp. I wouldn't worry about it much.
I did the thing. I finished the second chapter of Amo & Lint. It took me way longer than it should have. It's 8k words.https://rentry.org/oz4wbsw4That is all.
>>59655637based, nice work anon
>>59656822What a cute bundle of characters! I wonder which one's the dad.
What kind of art style would you like to see if they made another PMD?
>>59657386Personally I quite like the idea of the game looking like the promotional artwork like what RTDX tried, though I haven't really seen it in motion... I just thought it was novel.Something in 2D would look awesome, but that'd be a lot of work... I'm not really sure. But anything that's done with effort would be fine by me! I'd be happy to see anything new with PMD.
>>59657386paper pokemon mystery dungeon would be so incredible, triply so if it was turn based battles like how they are in the paper mario seriesreally i just want another explorers of sky graphics wise, nothing pokemon has done since leaving pixel art behind has come anywhere close to how good pixels can look. they'll never do it of course, but it's nice to dream
>>59657628>pokemon mystery dungeon would be incredible, triply so if it [wasn't mystery dungeon]PMD fans will stare you dead in the eyes while saying this and not understand why it's retarded
>>59657861The gameplay is the worst thing about PMD
>>59657869Is it really? The game is fun to play, and it's a way to actually explore and look around for whatever jobs you're taking up in universe.A lot of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon gameplay is all about involving you in Mystery Dungeons.
>>59657386This Paper Mario stile wouldn't work. Exploring a dungeon with the camera that low to the ground would be trippy, not to mention it would get inside the dungeon walls.I think with the switch 2, it's about time the pokemon 3d models are given increased fidelity and better animations, since it the console can probably handle several of the same high poli count model loaded at once in a monster house while a visually intensive move is going on. Do that and dial back the cartoonishness from DX back to Gates/Super.>>59657861Stole the words from right under my mouth. "I played EoS as a kid and it's so hecking nostalgic, but I really, REALLY hate the gameplay. Also what's a Mystery Dungeon?"
>>59657869"We love the games but would never ever play them"Sponsored by Skytemple.
I keep forgetting people grew up with EoS. I only ever played it recently in my 20s and I still sat there thinking it was the coolest shit in the world, including the gameplay. It's the type of game that alters a child's brain chemistry for the better, but I guess it didn't change everybody for the better...
>>59657861The gameplay is by far the worst thing about pmd, absolutely. The story is also held back slightly by certain jap-isms but EoS still manages to be great despite that. The setting is what's interesting and good about it all, and a structured game with a story in the style of paper mario could absolutely work well. >>59657876>fellates bad gameplay>can't comprehend the idea of a game set in the pmd world without the atrocious gameplay>also fellates shitty 3d modelsGo figure.
>>59657875>>59657878Well, I'm just speaking for myselfI play PMD for the setting, and the theme of Pokemon going on adventures and becoming best friendsThe gameplay itself isn't for me, so I'd enjoy an entry that switches up the gameplay
I'm gonna say it. The story of PMD is not good enough to justify playing if you also hate the gameplay. I'm not saying it's bad. It is better than other pokemon stories around its time. If you hated the gameplay, I cannot see what in the story stood out to you that made you keep playing. Unless you're a furry and you liked roleplaying as a pokemon which is a large portion of this game's community. And at that point, why are you asking for a new PMD game and not just another pokemon spinoff like Pokopia?
>>59657896These people who ask for a new game are gonna whine like bitches the moment it doesn't has the EoS graphics 1 to 1, and the moment there's Mystery Dungeon gameplay in the Mystery Dungeon game. I'm curious how they'd react to EoS if it launched today as it is instead of on the 2000s (give or take there being nu gen mons).
>>59657881>>59657886I'm surprised you committed so much to the game(s?) considering how unfun the gameplay seems for you, especially considering the formula EoS follows.I remember specifically people talked about the story not actually picking up until 2/3rds in, and I remember feeling a bit miffed about needing to do a few jobs between story beats. How did you go through the games despite disliking its gameplay?
>>59657925I didn't outright hate the gameplay, and there were a few segments where the dungeoneering seemed to drag on too much between story bits, but overall it remained roughly engaging enough. The desire to hear more of and progress the story outweighed most of the annoyance I had with the dungeons. I do wish they did more interesting things to differentiate the dungeons though, for most of the story dungeons the only real gameplay difference was the types of pokemon in them, and sometimes slight terrain differences. Atmospherically they did a pretty great job at varying them up, which certainly helped, but a little something more would've been nice. By the end of it all the loop was just incredibly stale. The Zero Isles and such were very cool for example, but obviously their difficulty wouldn't make much sense for main story dungeons. The shaymin mountain climb was also pretty great.>How did you go through the games despite disliking its gameplay? All of what I said above, plus the major factor that I just enjoyed playing as a pokemon so much that I could look past a few other things. Like I said it's a very underexplored concept for pokemon games, and pmd did it by far the best.>>59657914I would have roughly the same opinion on EoS if it had come out today exactly as it is. Frankly, I would almost certainly like it even MORE because compared to the rest of the shit that's pokemon related to come out in recent times, EoS is the Mona Lisa. It came out at a time when the mainline games were fantastic. >>59657896>PokopiaYou play as a human. Not really comparable, I don't like it.
>>59657947>You play as a human. Not really comparable, I don't like it.Before I'm rightly called a dumbass, you play as a ditto that looks like a human. Admittedly the concept is cool, pokemon only rebuilding a post apocalyptic world, but come on, making you look like a human kills the presentation quite a bit for me. I overall prefer the low-tech almost sword and sorcery esque setting of pmd, and I truly believe the setting is ripe for other types of games than just trite mystery dungeon gameplay. The other main issue I have with the new games is how ugly the artstyle and 3d models are, RTDX is an absolute joke and I would be sad if they demade EoS in a similar fashion. But I know they'll almost certainly never go back to pixels, so I would still welcome a new pokemon-only game with the new style (properly, not like pokopia).
>>59657947>>59657969That's more like it. Next time say something along the lines of "I'd like a Pokémon game in a fantasy setting with the pokémon as the only characters," instead of "I'd like a new PMD... Take the dungeons and all that crap," cos the 2nd one sounds really retarded.
I, personally, like the dungeons as a narrative and setting element even if the gameplay isn't completely appealing to me.
>>59657947>>59657993Oh, I guess I just misunderstood what you were saying. My first major exposure to PMD was the setting itself rather than the games, so I get that feeling especially knowing that this sort of gameplay seems like the type of thing people either commit to or don't.This has been most enlightening. Maybe something brilliant could come out of it....I guess that'd be everyone making stuff out of PMD that isn't video games.
>>59657969So you're a furry. Got it
>>59657993The gameplay could be better.>No stairdancing.>All enemies are somewhat the same with few exceptions.>Repetetive dungeons only dirrefenciated by weather.>Broken status effects.>STUPID partner.>Very weak bosses that are HP sponges you need to cheese with broken status effects. It's still a lot more fun than the garbage mainline games do.And for a roguelike beginner noob, PMD is much better and more fun than something like the original Rogue, Pixel Dungeon or DCSS.
I would like an action RPG where you play as the Pokémon. Ideally 3D.Actually good and skill based gameplay, unlike PLZA, towns, quests, overworld POIs, Myserty Dungeons and a decent difficulty level. (Not Dark Souls, children should still beat it, but make it a fuckload harder than the main games)Alternatively a simpler linear action RPG, maybe an action dungeon crawler or s linear campaign.
>>59655637Nice short little story, and the drawings were a good touch as well. Favorite part was the final image, good stuff.
>>59659518The dream... A sweet break between adventures with friends...
>>59659954The Unseen Fart…
>>59659982Disguising a fart with a hurricane force wind gust that flings you out of the dungeon is a bit overkill.
>>59659982To be fair have you ever seen a fart
>>59659954Has anyone actually had a run ruined by the floor time limits? I've only ever encountered it by going out of my way to see what happens out of curiosity as a kid.
>>59660230Likely not, and even if you're really tight on turns for a floor, that's a prime time to use items to ensure enemies don't stall you out and you make it to the stairs.Maybe if you're doing some hellish recruitment that's only in a handfull of floors at a low spawn rate and you really overextend? But at that point you're going against the warnings the game gives you.Now if we're talking Seven Symphones...
>>59660252Feels weird they never really made a gimmick dungeon with a time limit, don't think Shiren's really done that either. Maybe they tried and felt it was too easy to get RNG screwed.
>>59660887That's why I brought up Seven Symphonies. Leaving the story aside, which is CBT of its own, it's a hack where you go trough a dungeon consisting of 99 dungeons. If that doesn't sound bad enough, enemies have ludicrous HP amounts, and there's a chance that every dungeon will have a effect in play based on the tileset. Effects that are for the post part strictly stacked against you, such as giving all your team members the truant effect on moves, or give all enemies either counter or mirror coat that triggers from a distance and changes to match the move you just used such that it'll get countered next time.If that wasn't bad enough, halfway through, the turn limit goes way down. The amount is based on the difficulty option and how many party members you have. In hard mode, expect to see 200 turns, per floor, to reach the stairs while dealing with the bullshit above. The cherry on top is that in some floors, the stairs are locked and you need to use a key that spawns somewhere else on the floor to progress.
>>59660887Shiren 6 has time trials for every dungeon, but I don't believe there are any dungeons designed around it. If there are, I haven't played far enough to see them.
>>59660887>>59661196PMD is technically a time trial because if you stay inside a dungeon for too long, a "gust of wind" will carry you off and instakill you.In practice, you die of starvation long before that can happen.I don't even remember in what context I learned that.I am assuming this is a carryover mechanic from Shinen that is supposed to prevent you from just levelgrinding to trivialize the entire dungeon, though Pokémon doesn't reset you to LV 1 for every dungeon so you can levelgrind anyways.
>>59661202Yeah, Shiren 1 had it. Wonder if it was stolen from rogue or an older roguelike like a lot of MD's features.
>>59662135DCSS has the Zot clock, a feature so obscure you only knew about it from reading the wiki or played the discontinued Meteoran race.So pretty much in line with the PMD wind mechanic.I haven't encountered an equivalent mechanic in Rogue or ADOM yet.The Doors of Trithius has a similar mechanic but here it is actually dangerous and noticable. As I said I think it is an anti-scumming mechanic that is kinda obsolete in PMD, but not noticable enough to actually hinder regular gameplay. But it does technically make every PMD crawl timed.
>>59661202The wind in Shiren is directly tied to Kron, the god of travelers. It has an in-universe explanation, punishing you for refusing to travel. I have no idea what the explanation is in PMD. I don't believe there is any unless someone here wants to write their retarded headcanon and pass it off as fact.
>>59662834My headcanon: Carryover mechanic from Shiren.PMD is a Shiren spinoff. But Shiren also started as a Dragon Quest spinoff.
Wasn't there some really small detail in EoS where the wind is replaced with "somethings coming!" during the future arc?
>>59662949
>>59663066Silence, fool!
>>59663032apparently it's a screenshake because there's no wind but functionally it'd be the same
>>59663091It's not exclusive to the future dungeons, but to the tilesets they use. It's a nice detail that thye didn't use wind in the future, but the screenshake would also appear in the ZIS segment that uses one of the Deep Dusk Forest tilesets. Some other effects are bubbles or small embers fliying across in the same fashion as the wind, for underwater dungeons and fiery dungeons respectively.
>>59662834Well of course the wind in PMD is all Darkrai's doing cos he's just so devious and edgy and secretive and mysterious and well written. He takes the chance to end you or anyone in your team where they least expect it, be it you, your partner, a recruit or even himself! If you're asking why there's wind in games other than explorers, it's because Darkrai is actually working for a even bigger bad, who's behind all of the end of the world scenarios, and any future, derivative end of the world scenario featured in any "Explorers of Sky, but..." hack!
>>59663234>darkrai was trying to freeze time to STOP the plague that was dark matter (who was so strong he one shot god btw)>we only stopped darkrai in sky because we misunderstood himmy fuckin hero...
Honestly I just want to fantasize about being a Shinx that goes on adventures to grow into a big and strong Luxio that can protect his friends.(I think the only reason I gravitate towards Shinx and not my other favorite is due to imprinting.)
Super MD is non canon.
>>59663096>chunsoft is so autistic they'll give dungeons unique floor time limit animations that 99% of players will never see>but they won't make it so starters just re-use their normal sleeping animation when they're evolved at the beginning of each daysasuga chunsoft
>>59664552>but they won't make it so starters just re-use their normal sleeping animation when they're evolved at the beginning of each dayThis fucking sucked. They do have the animations for the sleep status effects.
Dungeons are like Flatland's Sphere, but in more than three dimensions.
>>59664900I assume it's because they don't have animations for getting up from sleeping.
>>59665987wasn't a problem in RT. Even without the animations it's better than "run in place all night"
>>59665992Ah, I was unaware of this intel. Very silly that they made it work lile that in Explorers.
I got very used to the idea of all seeds looking the same, but I later learned that they do have official distinct designs, lile the Blast Seed being red and spiky while the Reviser Seed has a pair of lips vaguely shaped like a heart at the end of a sprout coming from it.Anyways, the fact that Seeds are visually distinct means I can't write a Pokómon threatening someone with chewing on a seed and blasting them away, when it's really a bluff with something like a Plain Seed or a Slip Seed.
>>59666022How do the dick sucking lips of a reviver seed turn into a plain seed once its used? Hint: make it the fuck up and write whatever.
Hol' up. Reviver seeds can suck dick?
>>59666064>He bitches about reviver seeds>He is totally fine with the lore of pokemon and everytime they just pulll shit out of their ass because dumb jap suits write this shitOk buddy

>>59666294I guess you're right, but with how distinguishable they all are according to the artwork then I'd have to make it so the character doing it is basically just doing some sort of sleight of hand. In which case, it probably wouldn't be the humon that got the idea from a videogame. Maybe passing the idea on to a native with more dexterity...>>59666064>Hint: make it the fuck up and write whatever.I could also do that I suppose and make it so there's variants of these seeds that all look the same. That means I could much more easily execute that scene, but it feels a little cheap in comparison... I'd have to find a way to set it up that doesn't feel super arbitrary.Anyways, thank you for listening to me, anons.
>>59666334Maybe the mon they are triying to fool has bad eyesight?
>>59666391That could also work! Maybe the idea occurs to the mon once they learn the Pokómon they're fighting against can't quite tell what they're looking at. They can see movement just fine, but if they don't know exactly what's in their opponent's mouth...Actually, I'm saying all this assuming that the appearance of seeds is all common knowledge when it's probably not. Outlaws would probably know a good chunk of them, though.
>>59666022>>59666977>PokómonWhy do you keep saying this?

>>59668022That's good because I already ate three.
>>59668072Were they yummy?
>>59668113Nah they tasted pretty bitter.
>>59668407Aww :(Sorry to hear man. I'll try and bring you tastier harmful seeds next time.
>>59667003As a kid I mainly used stun and sleep seeds, I rarely bothered with the stat buff/debuff ones. I don't think I ever used throwable sticks or rocks, partially because I think I was too stupid to learn how to set the hotkey for them. Rocks I find useful sometimes when I play nowadays but I've literally never found sticks useful, their damage is always extremely low.
>>59668711The main use I've heard for them is just for scouting out a hall. Throw a stick down a hall and if it hits someone, then you'll know someone's there.I keep forgetting to use them though.
>>59668711>>59669095Thrown items in Rescue Team are about as powerfull as the regular attack, so you can mow down enemies from a distance the same way you can mow them down witth the regular attack up close. They were then given a power cut in explorers. As for scoutting, any garbage item you don't want can achieve that. And rocks can scout enemies in a wider area, so you'd only use sticks because they stack and can be mapped to L+R.
>>59668711Sticks and rocks are a meme.Rocks can hit targets approaching from non-45 degree angles for some damage very early on.All sticks are useless. Even the silver ones.Wooden sticks take the cake with 2 damage which is nothing even at LV 5.It's another useless carryover from Shinen. This is very sad because I like the thought of using thrown weapons. They are very useful in other roguelikes. Pokémon should be able to set them on fire before throwing them for bonus damage, poison them, freeze them or fighting types hurl them so hard they pierce. You get the point.I guess they can kill Shedinja effectively maybe.
Thrown weapons do seem like the sort of thing that can be cool as hell but were just treated as an afterthought. Maybe it was just a bit too much to try and dive into while balancing out everything else as well.Weapons in general would be cool to see in PMD but it makes sense that there wouldn't be many given that everybody is basically magic. The closest thing I can think of is those species enhancers, some of them being stones that I guess certain species are attuned to but others are Pokémon parts like fangs or claws or tails.I never really gave those too much thought, I wonder if that ever bugs anybody in-universe. Carrying bits and pieces of what once was someone else.
>>59668711>I've literally never found sticks usefulI don't remember how they were in the other games, but in Rescue DX I found them crazy useful in Purity Forest with Thrown Item Boost, especially if you are trying to clear it with a shit Pokemon. They are common and deal good and reliable damage from afar, which is great since PF has several enemies that can screw you over if you let them breathe next to you. This is why I consider Thrown Item Boost one the best Rare Quality for PF unless you are going for the baby-mode route of using multi-hit moves with Rapid Bull's-Eyes.
Thrown weapons are worse than useless in Super because enemies quickly begin to catch and throw them back at you on the same turn, and the iron thorns even make target Onix and Steelix evolve when hit. You're better off trading 100 stored ones for a gold bar.
My apologies if this is a stupid and obvious question, but just to be 100% sure: /pmdg/ is both a PMD general AND for Clover Guild discussion, right?Basically I wanna make sure I don't clog up anything just to ask stuff like "where should i post writing? where's the story discussion happening? where can i find so and so?"

Also it's a good plot point for a new PMD game, that: show a pokemon who made all the gummis in the world. Maybe an Alcremie somewhere slaving away like Kurt does Pokeballs.Speaking of new PMD game, why does Chunsoft not develop a mobile port for classic PMD? Are they stupid?
>>59660230You guys have never grinded at Marowak Dojo or something? I got killed by the turn limit wind all the time trying to stack up bagons in Dragon Maze b5.Some starters are just so bad only overleveling can actually get you through the main story, assuming you don't savescum.
>>59673164>You guys have never grinded at Marowak Dojo or something?Unironically.I didn't know what the Marowak Dojo was good for. I found it weird. Only ran one dungeon.I used normal dungeons to grind.Because I didn't know how Spinda cafe works. If I knew how broken spinda cafe was as a kid, I wouldn't have needed to grind at all.
>>59629979Nah. It looks kinda like an egg though.>>59633125This is one of the worst things I have ever seen. Hideous colour scheme and clearly not PMD, also the retard who drew this apparently doesn't know Riolu is a jackal. There was a Pokemon MAP ("multi-animator project") uploaded recently; while it wasn't PMD specific, many of the parts in it were. What I hated was when one of the parts in this collaberative effort to showcase Pokemon characters would instead have someone's hideous OC who was so far removed from the original design I couldn't even fucking tell what Pokemon it was originally supposed to be. I am okay with a tiny bit of "uniqueness" added to a character design so they aren't simply "just" a Shinx with no defining characteristic, but changing the entire colour scheme AND design, combined with the artists' personal style being incompatible with the Pokemon's design does not make for a good fan made project. But the types who host those MAPs are insufferable clowns who wouldn't dare tell someone they need to adhere to a more standardized design.
>>59673283>the retard who drew this apparently doesn't know Riolu is a jackalHe knows. That OC is specifically stated to be a Riolu+Cat hybrid. It's also not a PMD OC, just some guy's fursona. Not that this makes it look any less awful.
>>59672934That fucking sucks. I tried glancing at some other websites in case someone uploaded it somewhere else but didn't find anything. Also, according to their X that video will only stay up for a couple of days too.
>>59673283>>59673347Why are we discussing obvious fetish art again?
>>59673363So I can interject by talking about Riolu's red rocket.
>>59673675>Enter Mystery Dungeon thread.>See this.Yup, the stereotypes are true.
>>59673350I tried to see if you could buy a CD of the concert on their website but doesn't seem like that's even possible, fucked up. No idea if people who actually went got a digital version of the concert too, maybe someone will upload it in the future, but probably not since this concert seems pretty small.
>>59673164I never used it when I played explorers, and only ever recently used it in a rescue team run to repeatedly murder team hydro with wide slash to grind EXP for post-game.
>>59673164I've technically used it for grinding. While going for all recruitments in Darkness, I had some of the mons that must be evolved in my party while Jirachi kept evading recruitment.
Would you guys play a remade Explorers Series PMD but in much the same way as Rescue Team DX, the pokedex is limited to gen IV and the graphics look like pic related?
>>59674806I would probably pirate it to try it, but I don't know if this graphical art style would grow on me for PMD specifically. It totally could as far as I know, though.
>>59651904>Gladius! What did I tell you about takiAyo? Takis mentioned?
>>59646623Didn't they technically nerf room-clearing moves with Ban Seeds in Super?Though admittedly PSMD and RTDX has so many QOL changes and downright broken items they could barely count as Mystery Dungeon games anymore. Granted, pokemon has 400 odd unique player character builds which is so different from Shiren being a blank slate in the original MD games. Idk, RTDX left me feeling like I got babied too much IMO.
>>59674806No.Downgrade.
>>59675079Man I wish the Pokómon universe had Flamin' Hot! Takis. Can I have some?
Just finished Red's main story on my first replay since playing it back in like 2007 or something. It was way shorter than I remembered it. Maybe I just had a bigger scale of games back when I was a dumbass 12 year old, but I just breezed through it with Skitty.Game's structure is really, really basic too. I played Explorers way more and I can definitely feel how this was just the "concepts" game with Explorers actually adding the meaningful content and developing on it.
>>59671268you should have seen the first one. it was my first work doing a portrait... i've gotten a lot better as we've gone lol. i've had to go back and redo a few of em
Is there a reason to play time or darkness over sky? I
>>59675915Not really, but Sky is a very overrated third version. Like, yes, it's better and more complete than the base games, but it's like still 95% the same game and some minor extra content. It's not a huge game changer like Emerald to RS or Platinum to DP
For the Clover Guild blokes here, what's a good water type to serve as a "big bad"? I'm writing something involving a fire type guiding a cowardly electric type to Capim Town from Shaded Grove, and I want to write the electric type finding the courage to help defend his guide and bail them out of being knocked out.Maybe I could make the water type some petty mugger so it never has to be acknowledged afterwards. Really I just want to know if there would be interesting picks for an intimidating water type that weren't just like Feraligatr and Blastoise.
>>59675930>octillery holds them up at literal gun point>"hero" palafin betrays the party at an unexpected time>crawdaunt because hes half darkie You're better off deciding how you want the soaker to act and then pick a mon from there imo.
Is The Neon Strip any good? It's the only partner romance PMD2 hack I've found, but the default pair being male x male doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
I blame the soakers
>>59675915The only reason is to have a bit of extra challenge in a second playthrough due to Darkness not having some key items since they were exclusive to Time. But at that point you might be better off looking into romhacks instead.
>>59676188fym that's based af
>>59676188Are you asking for the sake of having a partner romance PMD2 hack? I've only ever played Future's Gifts which is short and I found super sweet, but I'm a sucker for anything lovey dovey. Meant to take place after the events of EoS using the same protags.
>>59675465always the title screen...
>>59675930Kabutops? That'd be double effective against a fire type too.
>>59676188It's pretty mediocre. It's extremely unfinished and the new overworld it adds is huge, empty, and doesn't fit with the PMD setting. There's also a lot of gimmicky minigames that are neat to fuck around with for a few minutes but don't really add anything to the game. I could talk about it more, but if you want partner romance play the prologue then stop. Most of the romance is front loaded and the partner is only in half the cut scenes in the rest of the hack (which is also only the first chapter).
