Not much really. It's a 4 card combo for only 1 energy that does 190. Less setup than Lucario. And at only 1 point, it doesn't matter too much that it's frail. It's a really underrated glass cannon. Even a turn 2 Rocket Plan into 60 damage wins games early sometimes. It's not the best deck but people underestimate it very hard, especially when they confidently bring Lucario or Altaria to the front to kill Magmar 1 only for Magmar 2 to revenge kill instantly.

I will admit I'm biased cause Magmar is my bro and I fucking hate how they pissed on it with INSANE KLOWN POSSEE evolution. So I'm thrilled we have a usable Magmar that isn't meant to be evo-fodder for a (most likely unusable) mon I hate seeing. I remember trying the Elec/Mag duo archetype they gave us and being disappointed as hell.

I could see that in a typically character gacha that has one big product like a new character every few weeks.
But in a collect game like this where its literally unfeasible to collect or chase certain cards, it would only help the average player

Right now if a new set comes out and there's a chase card I want, my options are:
>get lucky and just pull the card (that isn't happening)
>spend money to hit the 1250 pity (I'm not fucking doing that)
>use a 3rd party app and sift through the shit and scammers and maybe a trade (annoying af, but it works)
Now if they add proper trading that can be done in game without needing 3rd party shit, I can

I get they're just trying to milk the whales they have with their current shitty system, because most of them will just unironically rip 100 packs a day until they get their shit.

Whales do that though, and will do it regardless of whether there's convenient trading or not. A whale is not going to go to the trouble of finding or setting up a trade, they'll just rip another 100 packs tomorrow.
QoL and convenient features exist to make the non-whales happy so they want to keep playing. Light spenders still make up a huge portion of gacha revenue when there are enough of them. And if the f2p/light spenders quit, the whales have no fish in the ocean to lord over, so they get bored and quit too - its a domino effect. And its also why revenue and playercount drop proportionally over the game's life span.

So I'll share in like an our or so. Also the wording on the JP site regarding guaranteed 2 star pick is also a bit ambiguous, but it sounds like there's some kind of option for us to pick. Yea, I actually meant dual type on its own is lame. Delta gave us a better way of handling dual types since it gave cool takes on familiar Pokemon and allowed them to be used in decks they otherwise wouldn't fit into. The intro of dual types just made me miss delta more.

Dual type seems like shit, or at least very underworked. If you told me greninja was just another water, and mewtwoX a psychic, I'd believe it. Nothing in in their energy costs or anything implies there is anything dual type about them, other than that they are. Its literally just making mono type cards but letting them access the type support from the type they aren't actually. Like why not give them a second attack or an ability that interacts with their dual type instead of just making it "greninja, but can use deceptive needle :^)"

Granted they only showed 2 cards, and maybe they're just trying to start slow and safe so they don't make any aids out the gate

I get what you mean. Feels like they missed an opportunity to truly try supporting dual type decks, especially now that we have Rainbow Cave to smooth out the random energy curve . Greninja Oricorio is a cool taste of what the game could be if it really wanted to support dual typing.

Potential for something more than it is, and this is the perfect opportunity to introduce something like that if they ever wanted to support it.

it's crazy that the only thing mega greninja really has over the existing greninja ex is a little bit of HP and the ability to use dark support which you probably won't run because everything else in your deck is water so said support is just a winmore brick
they're both 100 damage for 2 water, and honestly gren ex has uses mega gren doesn't since it can swap your mons around for free (which gets around mega gren's trapping funnily enough) while mega gren can only retreat itself for no cost, it can't come in from behind a 0 energy suicune on turn 4 like gren ex can

honestly i feel like the concept as a whole is really flawed, it's a complete nothingburger unless you're a fighting dual type. other types' support options just aren't worth running to support one single attacker, only fighting plays nice with it due to the playstyle of saving it all for the endgame turn.
like let's consider a hypothetical mega golisopod, as grass/metal, with metal energy. what does it gain from being grass type? erika? does nothing for the rest of your deck. leaf cape? does nothing for the rest of your deck, metal core barrier/steel apron are better anyway. fragrant forest? oops, all metal basics!
meanwhile a fire dual type is literally useless if you don't use fire energy since the only support is flame patch, a water dual type gets you basically nothing because irida and soothing shore require water energy while misty generates only water energy, a lightning dual type is useless because you have nothing but electric generator you can't make use of and electrical cord that does nothing without electric energy, etc.
it just doesn't make any sense. they're going to need to print a TON of very specifically designed support cards to make this gimmick anything more than a complete joke.
