Boo Edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

I started playing again recently on live and have had a lot of fun with MLucario and N’s Zoroark. Tried gengar meme deck and don’t care much for it despite some wins, refuse to play Dragapult so far but will probably try it while I still have the chance. Coming from magic I used to give the TCG no respect but I still make a total dog’s breakfast out of games with misplays.

pokemon is nowhere near the galaxy brain layers of interaction mtg can be on sometimes but it demands perfection in a lot of cases.

Is Festival Lead deck decent enough to use it in local league games? It's quite cheap and the theme is so cute I just can't stop thinking about it but it feels quite gimmick-y.
>>
>>59696122
festival lead has won a regional I'm pretty sure. it's kind of bricky but practically unbeatable if you curve out correctly
>>
>>59696003 I had a kid and we’re in early toddler dorm so my brain is about half rotted by now. That’s why I picked it up. I’ve been cracking packs since base but never really gave the game a go. Now I have, even in this meta, it’s still a lot of fun. Afraid to go to casual night because my friend runs the store and he said those kids would kick my ass, they all go to the regionals and shit. I don’t think I have it in me right now to get curbed by a 9yo
>>
>>59696233
people justifiably shit on the current meta because it's a tier 0 format. people are tired of pult. there is still a decent amount of diversity though, and I think talonflame will shake things up a bit.
>>
>>59696401
I’m really liking the lower power-level cards being spoiled for the upcoming sets. I played standard and modern in mtg and I’m no stranger to meta warping, but I can’t say they’re a ton of fun across a field of play. Mono-red courier was fun for a bit until it wasn’t. I haven’t even played against drag on casual in live yet oddly enough. Did get my ass whooped by a fuckin Misty’s deck with the gyarados, so that was fun. I feel like the asshole for liking MLucario at this point.
>>
>>59696429
I tried to run lucario, honestly I felt the deck wasn't even that good it just plays well into pult so it has a spot in the meta. that deck gets raped free by any single prizer deck, and I found that zerorark can outpace it easily unless you hit the powerade every attack
>>
Getting donked is the worst feeling.

Hey, I need some advice. I bought this card on its 20th anniversary when it came out. I asked someone in Japan to get it for me and ship it over. The problem is, back then people weren't total turbo-autists about Pokémon yet, so he just shipped it normally. As you can see, the corner has a tiny ding/dent. How would PSA grade something like this? I'm thinking about sending it in.
>>
>>59696432
I’ve been playing more zoroark lately because it’s just a ton of fun imo. I will build some rogues soon, I have a lot of cards and points due to friends ripping and giving me the codes. Any fun recs? I thought dhelmise looked fun but haven’t tried it yet. Too techy and I feel like i’ll time out.
>>
>>59696674
dhelmise was scientifically created to be the most boring deck possible. you just dump guys to the grave then swing with dhelmise and you just win out on pure numbers. the most fun decks right now are slop box and lopunny/ghosts/bronzong. personally, I have a crackhead mega starmie deck that I have a ton of fun with. I could post a spread later if you want, I only play physical and I'm not home right now

So I'm assuming the effect of first attack on this guy can be easily circumvented by just retreating, right?
>>
>>59696912
yeah
basically any kind of preventative effect on a mon gets cleared when it goes to the bench, retreating or otherwise
>>
>>59696122
any deck is decent enough for locals. just play what you enjoy whether it's festival lead or dragapult. in festival leads case it can be really really strong when it's not facing dragapult or budew

I picked up this deck for my wife, is there a handful of cards to bring it up to a higher level of play?

How fix. I don't have four Voltaic Energy yet. I lose to Alakazam and Hydrapple ex almost every game. Dragapult is surprisingly not bad, and Lucario is a 50/50.
>>
>>59697113
How to actually find one for msrp?

3 kilowattrels seems excessive
I'd drop zeraora for baby manectric [t. hydrapple player that gets dabbed on by those more than i don't on the off chance i find someone playing them]
xerosic or two for alazakams
>>
>>59697245
I see. The thing is, this is meant to be a Zeraora deck, so removing it would defeat the whole purpose of the deck. But I will add in Manectric.
>>
>>59697251
have you considered that zeraora is gay
just kidding, good luck. i've been wanting to make an electric deck but really i just wish i tried joltik box more than a week before it rotated. i hate megas so much
>>
>>59697175
Friendly local gamestore. 25 american bones
>>
>>59697268
1. I'm in Australia
2. All my stores are either sold out or upcharging
>>
>>59697170
I saw one with Stellar Pikachu that looked fun
>>
>>59697251
Should have been here when we had the Vmax and Vstar Zeraora, at least those were somewhat playable comparatively. Plus, they had cute art.
>>
>>59697113
No, it sucks pretty much.
>>
>>59697298
Really? Iirc modern day Zeraora was superior to that one
>>
>>59697355
I wouldn't call any of them that good but the Vstar could snipe which was nice and had free retreat and the Vmax was at least 320 hp and there was enough ability stuff in the format to do reliably decent damage with the first attack. 270 and an attack that requires a ton of energy to do any damage is just a lot worse in my opinion
>>
Haven't paid much attention, when are we getting the set on live? I heard the 5th but that just might be the main set's release
>>
>honchkrow in top cut
I love seeing my favorite birds do well
>>
>>59697898
why are european regionals so creative?
>>
>>59697898
I love Honch but hearing him say he fought
>0 Pult
>0 Flead
>0 Slowking
rustles my jimmies
>>
>>59698259
That's always the case when something lower on the tier list does well, they just dodged all of their bad matchups
>>
>>59695983
If you’re coming from mtg the amount of card draw and tutor effects is something to get used to. Unless your opponent totally bricks or you are actively disrupting them they are going to have all the pieces they need for their game plan by turn 2 or 3. That’s the craziest thing about the game to me. Putting in just two copies of something almost guarantees you’ll be able to get it every game. It totally changes the way you build decks. I’ve been playing around with the gundam card game recently and the games are so much slower because the best card draw is draw two cards lol.
>>
>>59697170
my friend is trying to run something similar to this. definitely don't run that mega elektross that shit is trash. he also opted for joltik and electivire EX over the the electrike line. electivire EX allows you to run heavy baton which rolls you right into the mega zeraora, and he goes for secret box over hero's cape. his deck is extremely consistent so far.

electric is also looking to be a strong anti-meta typing as it will hit starmie, rayquaza, and talonflame for weakness

There's 2 or 3 Manectric lists that have Day 2'd recently, they're on Limitless. Might be good starting points.

Dhelmise is deceptively simple but depending on the build there's a surprising amount of variation. I'm playing a list similar to Rahul's and it's really powerful. I consider it fun because I think winning is fun, but there's Banette and Sinistcha which both serve their purpose if you use them right. Dudun ex is a great secondary attacker for certain matchups and Ursaluna is really good for closing.
>>
>introduce friend to Pokemon TCG
>intentionally throw the first few rounds to give him the dopamine boost to get him hooked
It worked but now he thinks Gholdengo was a terrible deck
>>
>>59700274
Attacking with Sinistcha vs Basic Box puts everything in range for Dhelmise
>>
Do you guys think the 30th UPC will be worth getting? I might just buy two to ripe one, keep one.
>>
>>59700323
two of each you mean?
also >>59684171
>>
>>59700323
Collecting sealed product is stupid, just rip them
>>
>>59700321
Normally you can get 2 ex ko's with Dudun ex, Ursaluna or dhelmise swing for the last 2.
>>
>>59700277
I have a friend that only plays physical that I let win every few games. I legit feel bad beating him because he gets so sad when he loses but his decks suck so much it’s hard not to just accidentally win
>>
>>59700858
a real friend would help him improve
>>
>>59700858
>>59700871
nta and I have a friend like this but everytime I tell him what to change or give him lists he just ignores that and continues building on his own. Some people just don't get it
