As someone who is a complete SEGA virgin other than Sonic, what games would you recommend from when they actually made CONSOLES?
>>11982363What genres do you like?
As far as their actual home console games go I recommend playing Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star for the SMS, they are probably Sega's most important console games from the 80s, like their SMB1 and Zelda 1 so it's a nice place to start I guess
Master system:wonder boy 3 the dragon's trapMegadrive :Shinobi 3Saturn:Night into dreamsDreamcast : Shenmue 2The best Sega game for each system (haven't play the game gear)
>>11982368anything, as boring as that sounds, ill try anythingbut i guess like platformers rpg and shmups
>>11982363Sega Master System - RamboSega Genesis - Streets Of Rage 2Sega Saturn - Fighters MegamixSega Dreamcast - Shenmue
>>11982402I watched one Shenmue stream and took up the habit of saying "I see...." in response to things now
>>11982435I did too back in 2002 or 2003 when I finally owned a PC and chatted with people on MSN messenger or Yahoo messenger.
>>11982440Im more of an AIM kid myself
>>11982386A few of the best shmups:>Eliminate Down>Elemental Master >Battle Mania: Daiginjou (Sometimes called Trouble Shooter Vintage. Has an English translation patch)>Gley Lancer (Has an English translation patch)>Thunder Force IV (Known as Lightening Force in the US)>MUSHAThere's also Twinkle Tale (Has an English translation patch) but it's more of a top down run and gun. I still recommend it though
>>11982363Bulk Slash & Panzer Dragoon
>>11982551Dead or Alive 2 and Marvel VS Capcom 2 if you like fighting games
>>11982551Ive heard of bulk slash, it's like a mech fighter / dating sim?
>>11982363Pretty much the Sega version of Zelda....
Fuck conoles. Play the arcade stuff.
Sega Genesis:Shining Force II
>>11982561It’s a mech fighter, not really a dating sim, but you recruit cute chicks to be your navigators as you progress(each with different abilities) and you can level them up for different interactions and endings.Unironically a Saturn hidden gem.
>>11982363I'm also a Nintendo kid who has been trying to find good Genesis games and this is the list I currently have:>Streets of Rage 1 and 2, (3 too but only the Japanese version)>All the Shinobi games >Monster World 4>Ecco the Dolphin>The Adventures of Batman and Robin>Sonic 1, 2, Sonic 3 Complete>The Sparkster/Rocket Knight games>Comix Zone>Gunstar Heroes>Castlevania: Bloodlines>Contra: Hard Corps

>>11982587Wow, he’s even an elf too. I’ve never noticed that until now.
>>11982363dynamite cop
>>11982535I had AIM as well. Sadly these messenger apps are obsolete now.
>>11982363Go watch youtube videos about it seriously. You will at least see what you may like actually in action rather than get opinions from potential shitposters. There is plenty of great games for Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast and even Game Gear. Not sure about Master System since I never played that. You could probably skip 32X and CD without really missing anything at all.In my opinion Sega was best with Genesis and Dreamcast.
>>11982363master system:not a ton of experience here, prefer the other worthwhile one of that gen, i know golden axe warrior is really neat, and rastan is decent on itgenesis;there's a good 1/10th of the library worth playing and probably a good 2/3 of that 1/10 is REALLY worth playing so i'll give some notable picksalisia dragoon, shinobi 3, splatterhouse 2 and 3, musha, thunder force 4, battle mania and battle mania daiginjo, truxton, fire shark, biohazard battle, rocket knight adventures, valis 3.saturn:radiant silverguncotton 2/boomerangguardian heroesburning rangersbulk slashdreamcast:illbleed (hit or miss for most, I love it)crazy taxisega bass fishingthere's more than this to every console here but i hope you enjoy what you play op
Sega's magnum opus
Wow thanks for all the replies
Sega RPGs I like:Lunar 1 and 2 (Sega CD)Grandia 1 and 2 (Saturn/DC)Evolution 1 and 2 (DC)Phantasy Star I and IV (MS/MD)Skies of Arcadia (DC)Platformers:Alex Kidd games (MS)Psycho Fox (MSDynamite Headdy (MD)Rock Knight Adventures (MD)Jet Set Radio (DC)Napple Tale (DC)
Play Sega licensed games. Dick Tracy is a great start, this game is a masterpiece.
Gargoyles, Golden Axe, Kid Chameleon, Ristar, Ranger X, Castle of Illusion
>>11982386Phantasy Star 4Radiant Silvergun's console version is actually worth mentioning over arcadeSame with some other shmup arcade ports, but really a list of Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast shmups would probably give you a lot to chew on; those libraries have been really well explored/documented by shmupbros. >>11984302Meant a list of exclusives* Ex for Genesis https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=70297
>>11982363here's my favorites for each of the consoles they made that matter at all. In general, Sega Genesis/CD > Dreamcast > Saturn
I’ll have enough games to go back and try to last me a while it seems lolStarted this thread cause I never dove deep into gaming that much before so thanks fellas
blessed thread
It cones down to genre. I always enjoy a round of Sega Rally Championship.
Flicky is so good
>>11982363Mega drive: easily Shinobi 3Saturn: die hard arcade, pick up and play classicDreamcast: obvious choice is shenmue, but I’ll be a pretentious cunt and say Gundam Side story 0079 Rise from the ashes. Amazing game back in 99, favorite gundam game to date.Sega X: too many..,halo, ninja Gaiden, breakdown, etc.
>>11982363>>11982368SONIC ADVENTURE 2
>>11982561It's just an action game, don't complicate it.
>>11986410I’ve already gotten all the emblems in 2 Battle But yesKino game
I'd play some nice Resident Evil clone. Does Dreamcast have some of those, other than Blue Stinger? Or maybe some other generally action/adventure titles
Vectorman
>>11986905Carrier
>>11987153carrier is a pretty good time. lasts a little too long, but I had fun.
>>11987153>>11987287Thanks anons, I'll check it out
How does one lose their Sega virginity? Do I have to take the Saturn out on a date first? Do consoles put out on the first date? I don’t want to date a slut…
>>11987879>Do consoles put out on the first date?Only Megadrive. You have to take the rest out a few times first.
>>11982363I've been going through a Sega autism run myself and have been pleasantly surprised to find a huge chunk of their library is actually really goodPlaying Sakura Wars right now, I really like it
>>11982369pretty grim, even the best AK game is maybe a 6.5/10, and while Phantasy Star is good it's nowhere near Zelda good.
>>11982593all their arcade titles got ported to home consoles. the Saturn and Dreamcast were designed specifically to be able to run arcade-perfect ports. in fact, their later arcade games used modified Dreamcast hardware.
I realized I actually need to take time to play video games for any of the suggestions in this thread to matter How does one play video games past the age of 22
>>11988728I have a huge list of recommended games on my phone that I've gathered from IRL people or hanging around on the Internet and yet 9 out of 10 times I end up browsing my collection of romsets and picking something that has a cool name. Either that or I play a game where somebody praises it's strengths in detail in a way that actually makes me want to try it

>>11982363Streets of Rage 2Comix ZoneVectormanEternal Champions (gameplay isn't the best but you can spend dicking around in training mode or reading the character bios - no fighting game in 1993 had these in-game)Shinobi seriesVirtua Fighter 2Thunder Force 4 and 5Panzer Dragoon 1-2-Saga-OrtaToejam & Earl (first game is rogue-like, 2nd is platformer but with gigantic levels where you have to search a lot, both are full of funk)Ecco the Dolphin series (pink floyd inspired undersea horror)
>>11982587I would suggest crusader centi instead for a Zelda clone.

>>11986905Deep Fear on Saturn is another Sega Resi-likeThe Ring on Dreamcast is god awful, but it's another survival horror.
>>11982363As much shit as I'll get, honestly nothing (with a possible exception for stuff made by Yu Suzuki). SEGA did absolutely nothing great that wasn't essentially done better by a game on another console. The entire SEGA library consists almost entirely of 'rainy day games', things you'd find perfectly entertaining if you were stuck with nothing else to do, but nothing there's much reason to go out of you way to play. I grew up with a Megadrive and barely have any desire to go back to it except for curiosity's sake. >>11982379Case in point, if these are your examples of the absolute best each console offers, then everything else is weaker than these games.
>>11982386Sexy Parodius is probably my favorite shmup on the SaturnFor Genesis, Truxton is good
