You fight monsters at near point blank range almost all the time in this game. In what way is it not going to feel as instant as hitscan would provide? Not sure I get your point at all it seems dumb as hell. I never even thought about this for RE1 at all since the gameplay felt so natural for what it was aiming for.

I think it's interesting to consider what alternate skill checks you could use for defense against enemies besides just hitscan aiming but it would make absolutely no sense in the context of classic resident evil. a game where you have only a single relevant shooting angle outside of close range and most environments are cramped corridors.

I don't hate hitscan and I don't question it being the default, I'd just like to see a few games that utilize alternate methods. projectile arcing weapons can be a pretty fun mechanic.
