WHAT were they THINKING?!
>>11985354People would always tell me the saturn pad was the best console pad ever and I always thought they were referring to this one so I just considered them all retarded. It wasn't until years later I realized there was a normal one and that's what they were talking about.
they were thinking ~30 years ahead by using a hall effect joystick
i honestly cant even remember if i ever used one. im getting old.
I've seen this thread before. Dead internet theory.
They were thinking>We wirr arso rerease thisu trashu for our nextu nippon consoru. Pay up gaijin piggu
>>11985354This is essentially the core of every modern controller though.
>>11985354>Let's make kino!!!And then they went and made absolute kino.
>>11985375I saw this post before too. You're a robot and I'm the only real person.
Been waiting for those chinese third party controller companies to put out a replica of this one. They're taking their sweet time
>>11985482This
>>11985354They were thinking about Nights when they made it.
>>11985476But is it really? Aside from being one of the first analog controllers and one of the first analog controllers to have a somewhat modern layout, the only thing I see it contributing to modern controllers are the analog triggers and maybe a higher left joystick.I would actually argue that all modern controllers are a descendant of the original Dualshock, the only major changes are the addition of analog triggers and staggered joysticks with an elevated left one. Most controllers other than the Playstation use this.>Xbox: all>Gamecube>Switch>Wii pad and pro controller, no analog triggers however
>>11985354The analog is kino and a must for NiGHTS but out side of that I do not see the big deal. The other Saturn controllers(yes even the NA version) is much better.
>>11985354There has only ever been one good Sega controller on the master system. Everything following it has been dog shit.
>>11985362People that thing hall effect stick don't deteriorate are the biggest retards.
>>11986871>thingProofread your posts before you go calling people retards, retard.
>>11986824Protip: If you want a big chunky controller but don't like that weird d-pad, you can swap the one from the jap controller in
>>11986916Did not know that! Cool info anon.
>>11986040I would say yeah it really is. The analog triggers are a big deal. The joystick feeling good is a big deal. It not a fucked up n64 controller that has unused buttons. Its just a saturn pad with a joystick and analog triggers. The ps1 controller came up with some stuff too. But it was similarly just a SNES controller with some changes. I don’t like the dualshock as much because my thumbs don’t come out of my forearms and my hands are big. There’s not enough to hold there. But two joysticks was a good idea and four shoulder buttons was a good idea. It didn’t contribute much else. The Dreamcast not having two sticks was the major Sega fuckup. It was also uncomfortable as hell and the vmu was unnecessary in general. If you want to talk about a bad Sega controller I’d go at that one. As far as d-pads go the Saturn’s mushy pad is great for shmups, the Psx’s more precise pad is better for fighting and stuff like Tomb Raider and crash where you mostly move at right angles. I’d even say the PSX pad is better for precise inputs on fighting games. Dreamcast again, has the shittiest d-pad. N64’s works fine, just like it’s joystick, when the controller is brand new. Sure it looks wierd and you never use all the buttons but it’s actually a decent controller. The main issue is that it wasn’t built to last.
They thought>Damn this is pretty comfy.

>>11985362>thinkingThat's not how you spell memeing
>>11987001I love the few decent thoughtful posts we can still have against all the botting.
>>11985354>Let's make a comfortable controller>yeah>And then let's make it really uncomfortable for the next generation when we're on the brink of bankruptcy >yeah
I don't play consoles. Do consolefags really jostle with uncomfortable shapes like this? It just seems not ergonomic to hold
>>11985354You're still using that thing in 2025 gramps? We've got other optio...>ships broken and fails to work even with a day 1 firmware update in your path
>>11989064mogs
>>11989315>>11989064Not retro.
>>11989315What's this? Is it actually good?
>>11989315>4 face buttons>made for tiny chink handsInto the trash it goes.
>>11986916Ayy, thanks anon
>>11986871My Saturn 3D controller still works fineBOTH of my Switch controllers driftNobody is saying Hall Effect joysticks will last centuries, but they sure as fuck don't degrade as fast as current potentiometer based analog sticks that every OEM still keeps using. And now we have TMR that is even better than hall effect.
>>11989932Gulikit Elves 2 ProAnd yes it is, only "downside" is not having 6 face buttons, but I've learned to live with that
>>11987001IDK. I think most controllers obviously resemble a Dualshock more than a Saturn analog controller. Maybe with the sole exception of the original Xbox controller.
>>11985482They nailed it here and then followed up with the dogwater Dreamcast controller.
