>b-but the gba library is just snes ports
uh yeah native snes ports on the go is still epic in 2025
>>
>>11988370
it's not
>what's not
both
>what's both
both of these nutz lmoa got em
>>
>>11988370
Yeah most of the ports suck ass and aren't worth bothering with
>bu-but muh Mario Advance!
Unquestionably worse versions of all the games. I know you have fond memories of playing Super Mario Advance 2 while your parents duked it out in divorce court but that doesn't mean its better than the SNES version.
>>
not really. and the ones there are poor versions of the game. literally better off emulating the original snes games on something else.
>>
Golden Sun
Astroboy
Soma's Castlevania
Advance Wars
Mario vs Donkey Kong
Riviera
FFTA

fucking goated system
>>
>>11988370
Ports that are inferior as some sort of compromise to be on a certain system are probably the only kind of video game to "age"
Having the Mario Advance games on the go was amazing back then but these days you can just emulate the originals on your 3DS or some chinkheld
>>
>he boughted the port machine
>>
>>11988392
it gives you a reason to collect all the dino coins and luigi adds replay value
that and lttp alone make the system great
>>
>>11988370
Why does the SNES seem so much more grand and otherworldly than the GBA aesthetics-wise? Was it the OSTS or special effects that came be known with the system? Apparently, the GBA is more powerful than the SNES but I find that hard to believe. Because one is a console and the other is a handheld (which isnt to say that making a handheld thats stronger than a console is hard, per se, but on such short notice). Its hard to believe. SNES will always feel more grand, epic, and more powerful than the GBA to me. Perhaps its the Super FX chip associated with that one Star Fox game? I have no idea.
>>
>>11988428
It's the Sony sound chip mostly. Also most of the SNES ports on the GBA look, sound and play worse than their console version.
>>
>>11988397

The GBA can do webm related without any additional hardware, or even this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igEUjEci-eg&t=190s
The SNES can't even do it with a Super FX chip
Biggest problems with the GBA are the audio and the lower resolution
>>

And the Ugly color palettes due to Nintendo's greed and bottlenecking, if only they kept the same GBC type of screen, the main games wouldn't needed to get the bright wash.
>>
>>11988504
it is crazy how the gba screen is significantly harder to see than the gbc
>>
>>11988548
Nintendo basically did the shit they always did, bottleneck, the GBC screen wasn't the greatest either, but it was legit better, even if the games technically also used harsher overly saturated colors (not all of them tough) and the screen decolorization make them look "opaque and bright", they were still pretty visible unless it's a really rundown one with a very scratch glass.

The GBA one on the other hand, it really was THAT BAD, and it was all because Nintendo wanted to be cheapstakes again and not paying the royalties to whoever did the GBC screens, but during development, many companies were using kits based on early proto versions of the GBA which likely had decent screens (personal speculation tough), and Nintendo at the last second they gave new orders to these people to "wash n bright" their games.

Castlevania Circle of the Moon however being an anomaly cause it wasn't colorized around Nintendo's fuckup, but the funny thing is, it's overall color palette ain't really that dark when played on emulators, it's comparable to Rondo of Blood, but brighter then SCIV and SotN, so if only Nintendo used the GBC style screen for the GBA instead, the game wouldn't looked so murky and dark, but the final screen used it's what really make it look almost unplayable, because it was THAT BAD in quality.

I remember someone posting some RetroArch screencaps of CotM and HoD with the GBC and GBC style color correcting shaders, and both look acceptable on the GBC one, then on the GBA one, the HoD one actually was color corrected in it's original form to begin with instead of using the original oversaturated look.
>>
>>11988436
I mentioned advance wars and castlevania. Haven't played the kirby games on the system or SRW. My mecha era was 2022 and 2023 where I captained a pirate ship for 2 years and pirated every non core world mech in the galaxy in the form the assembly metavault (AMV)
>>
So because I actually don't wanna make another thread, how many GBA games actually had recolor or color options? Both default and romhack? And as for the latter, what are the best?
>>
>>11988653
Funny I mentioned that because

>Unquestionably worse versions of all the games.
Nope. All Advance versions are arguably better except for SMA2, thanks to their additional content.
>>
>>11988653
>>11988679
Some emulators or shaders allow you adjust the gamma and brightness of the image so you can kinda fix all GBA games yourself
>>
>>11988681
>additional content automatically makes a version better
If that was the case then the Saturn version of SotN would be better than the PS1 version
>>
>>11988687
But mGBA on the Wii doesn't allow you to do that, and manual shaders only go so far to being honest.
>>
>>11988370
Can you stop already
>>
Imagine how good the GBA library would have been if you could actually see the fucking screen.
>>
>>11988956
Are you really going to pretend the AGS-101 doesn't exist?
>>
it's weird, I own multiple GBAs and a library of games, but I don't really remember any of them, they were all so forgettable
>>
>>11988975
I mean from the BEGINNING, you fucking R-tard.
>>
>>11988989
Cope
>>
>>11988975
Welp, GBA games still look like ass both in default and "color corrected" emulator colors
>>
In my opinion the gba got one of the best library ever, you're full of great games and there's a good variety of genres.
>>
>>11988370
in 2025 you can just play the far superior snes originals on literally any mobile device/chinkheld/pc you can dream of. you could play a better version of alttp on a fucking 10 year old tablet then the GBA.
>b-but touch screen controls
this has been a solved issues for eons already.
>>

>Apparently, the GBA is more powerful than the SNES but I find that hard to believe.
Good luck doing this on a SNES, even with a SuperFX: https://files.catbox.moe/g54esq.webm
>>

Why doesn't cat box player work on mobile?

>>11989136
ios has shit video support
>>
>>11988681
The extra content doesn’t make up for the screen crunch, the nauseatingly bright colors and the dreadful sound. I’ll relent a bit and say SMB 3 comes the closest but making a huge new set of levels for each game is what they should have been doing from for first game. In the original release they were locked behind Yet Another Ridiculous Nintendo Peripheral anyway
>>
>>11988459

>Right GBA is literally dark even if turned on

You know, I think is just GBA screens dying over time, but I don't doubt they looked dark early on.
>>
>>11990445
it's a reflective display, turn it on in a dark room and its dark, turn it on outside on a sunny day and it's bright like you wouldn't believe

Yes

The original GBA had issues with capturing light, it was fixed on the sp model even though it’s the same screen
It has nothing to do with aging
>>11990451
If you have a good angle
>>
Man I don't remember it being this bad, but yeah it was probably that bad. I don't know how I was able to play MMZ on a travel-bus at night with those little seat lights in the dark, weww.
>>
Wow, every kid knew, without being told, that you just had to adjust the angle of the light for the screen to work well. People are so retarded nowadays.
