Why was Devil May Cry 2 given such a short window to be developed? From what I remember the Director was someone who had never worked on a game before and he couldn't handle the job and then the DMC 1 guy had like 2 months to make something with it and the game became a huge piece of shit.
IIRC they never even said who the shitty director was because he was an executives son or some shit like that.
Do any anons know the tale of why DMC2 was so shit?

It was the belief at the time that you needed to 'strike when le iron is hot' and if you have a hit, you need to pump out a sequel right away to keep the hype going. Same thing in the movie industry, where Mortal Kombat was a hit in theatres so they rushed a sequel with a different director and even different actors and it flopped.

Capcom made an exclusivity deal with Nintendo for five upcoming AAA level games. These games ended up becoming Resident Evil 4 (one of the greatest games ever made), Viewtiful Joe (alright game), Killer7 (a cult favorite game), P.N.03 (crap game), and Dead Phoenix (cancelled). The GameCube sold like shit compared to the PS2, so Capcom were quick to port all of the games to other platforms so they could actually make a profit from these titles. Only one game really lived up to what was promised and the rest fell flat. They got like 1.5/5 out of 5 games they signed for.
