What's a recommend usb SNES pad? I want something I can play contra iii with. I've seen retroflag get shilled here before and was wondering if anyone can corroborate. I might go the adapter route if someone knows how to best get a used pad.

Keep checking the dumpster you dug that one out of.

I use an adapter with a Super Famicom controller. You can find OEM SFC controllers on eBay for like $10. They're even cheaper if you live somewhere close enough to Japan to import one directly without paying exorbitant shipping fees. USB adapters are also like $10-$15. I have a Tomee adapter and I've never had any problems with it. I don't doubt that pretty much any brand will work the same, though.

I recommend giving any used SFC controllers a deep cleaning before using them. They are easy to disassemble and reassemble. Take your controller apart and clean the individual buttons with soap and water. Its worth the effort. It makes the controller feel like new.

I kinda tried this already. I bought an SFC controller like 5 years ago that I never used. I dug it out of my controller drawer recently and remembered why immediately. It was completely beat to shit. I gave it a deep clean even gave the pads a simmer for 5 minutes like I've seen suggested and while the dpad got a little better, the buttons where still mushy garbage. I guess my question to you would be if you have any tips on getting a decent controller besides just blind buying. I'm considering trying Etsy.

I don't really know. I have a bunch lying around that I've accumulated over the years of collecting Super Famicom related stuff, so hunting for a good one isn't really something I've thought about. I've read about people buying multiple and taking the best components of each to make an ultimate controller, though I'm not sure if that's worth the effort unless you are an enthusiast. You could blind buy from places that offer refunds, buy a bunch of controllers, and return all but the best one. If you have any retro game stores nearby, they're bound to have some for sale that you can try before buying.

Retroflag feel the part. They seem to have the ghost diagonal issue that most modern 'retro' controllers have, although maybe not as bad as the 8bitdo SNES controllers I have. But other than that they're solid.

I think I'm gonna give it a shot. Maybe If the molds are close enough I can swap the dpad and membranes and maybe the pcb around with the one I have and end up with something bretty gud. Plus this anon >>11990051 reminded me that returns are a thing so I'm taking no risks buying off amazon.
Thanks for responses.
