The retcons make it worse, though. When this was the only game, it was big boss sending this greenhorn on a suicide mission and getting more and more desperate s he proves to be inexplicably skilled. With all the story from the rest of the series, both he and venom (who is who you actually fight as the final boss here) both know exactly who snake is and still pull this dumb bullshit.
