Did the Japanese salaryman really play Kings Field on his ps1 after work in the 90s?
>>
I don't know, are there any honest to God Japanese people on this board who were there at the time?
>>
No, they played Dragon Quest.
By the way, what the fuck happened to /vr/ jannies? I replied to an obvious ragebait shitpost the other day with "Kill yourself" and I got banned for "Troll post". What the actual fuck?
>>
Extremely low quality thread
>>
>>11991021
I think the only janny here went AWOL since this >>11989995 off topic thread has been up for 9 hours
>>
>>11991040
They deleted my funny post comparing food to game systems the other day.
>>
>>11990986
Yes it's statistically certain that at least one Japanese salaryman did so. Probably are some natto afterwards as well.

No one on this damn board is 40 year old Japanese dude who will answer, you're just getting gaijinsplaining
>>
>>11990986
>after work
Wait what? All I hear is how they work from early morning until midnight.
>>
>>11991021
I got a similar ban.
>>
>>11990986
No one played it which is why no one ever heard of it until Fromsoft got popular with Elden Ring, finally leaving their niche and becoming a top studio in the industry. People started looking into their back catalog for gems they may have missed and found King's Field.
>>
>>11991040
>>11991047
Damn, this is like being a cop and finding out someone's been following you around and undoing all of your work for weeks.
>>
>>11991241
I am a 50 year old Japanese salary and I would drink with my boss come home to kingsfield on ps1
>>
>>11991509
>no one ever heard of it until Fromsoft got popular with Elden Ring,

Dude I remember reading about Armored Core on Penny Arcade. They weren't Mario popular but they weren't in some teensy niche either
>>
>>11991241
Probably true, but there's no harm in asking. We've got plenty of OPs inferior to this one.

Dark Souls is what made people care about From.
I actually had KF3 back in the 90s, and treated it as a guilty pleasure. Never imagined it was a cult thing.
>>
Nah, nobody played it back then, it's only revisionism by Dark Souls tards.

That's why the game got 2 sequels and 1 spin off on PSX alone and even western magazines talked about it..
>>
>>11991685
i'll admit it was dark souls that was my first exposure to fromsoft, but i had no idea king's field nor shadow tower were their ip. i loved kf4, the other kf games just don't have that same feel. shadow tower also blows the other games out of the water in every aspect. i might try kf3 one more time before giving up on it for good
>>
>>11991658
genuinely pretty well composed kek
>>
>>11991685
Anyone who didn't play a FROM game before Dark Souls does not qualify as "people".
>>
King's Field isn't a good action RPG, though it's better than Dark Souls.
>>
>>11991685
It's kinda funny, I've owned like 8 of the PS1-2 Armored Core games since release-ish and could not have told you From made them until like 5 years ago
>>
>>11991021
I got a warning gor flaming before i quit coming hete for a year or so.
Kinda seems like vr has chilled out after the board rules changed and the hack
>>
>>11991472
They have to go to the bars after work.

KF2 and 3 both got the Japanese equivalent of a greatest hits release. As did all three Armored Core games and the first Echo Night. That's 60% of their PS1 releases. King's Field, and pre-Miyazaki Fromsoft more boradly, was at the very least moderately successful in Japan.
>>
My dad would beat me for bad grades and I played kings field 1 crying after 12 hours of school.
>>
>>11993032
that's pretty cool
more parents should take a hands on approach in educating their children
>>
>>11991021
I got a ban for "racism outside of /b/" because I jokingly put triple parentheses around "reviewers" lmao
>>
>>11992965
I love seeing the revisionist camp pop up and go "ummm no it didn't", "no one played this", "ummmm you're wrong", wonder what they'll reinvent in the next 10 years.
>>
Why did FromSoftware start making "RPGs" anyway, they don't seem to have any background in them or like them very much? Is it just the whole Japanese thing of liking Western labels?
>>
>>11994308
They probably played a lot of them and it was just taken as a business opportunity. You had minor businesses that published dictionaries getting in on the PlayStation then too.
>>
>>11994314
>They probably played a lot of them
I don't think they did.
>>
>>11994332
You are really underestimating the amount of RPGs coming out on consoles and on PC in Japan prior to 1995.
>>
>>11994339
I'm not. I just don't think the FromSoftware guys were into RPGs or had any background in them. Labeling a game an RPG doesn't make it one.
>>
>>11994346
And yet the Japs still call it one.
>>
>>11994352
Yes.
>Japanese thing of liking Western labels
>>
>>11994354
>Hey this is X
>Actually it's not
>>
>>11994367
Yes. You'll find in life that some people don't understand the words they use.
>>
They went to bars, got drunk and cheated on their wives before going home to an unhappy family. Only hikkimori and children played games in Japan.
>>
>>11991658
kek

/vr/'s janny is awful. The dude leaves up offtopic posts and LITERAL PORN so I can only assume he's an agp tranny gooner with no functioning braincells. He'll ban you for shitting on Sandy Petersen of DOOM 2 infamy but leaves up retarded console war threads, off topic shit, porn (as mentioned,) etc. and the feedback page no longer includes moderation feedback. It's looking grim.
>>
They went home and played Derby Stallion while eating kaki-pi with biiru.
>>
>>11994473
Every moderator of every board is someone who hates this website in general. Why else would you become a mod here except from sheer spite?
>>
>>11991104
isn't natto normally a breakfast food?
>>
>>11991021

faggot. /vr/ has better jannies than the majority of the site.

Are you one of those shitters who get mad that JRPGs don't have enough roleplaying because you're braindead and take genre titles too literally?
>>
>>11994830
No. Roleplaying games are about combat and come from wargaming, not improv class.
>>
>>11991509
>no one ever heard of it until Fromsoft got popular with Elden Ring
There were Armored Core tournaments way before online gaming became a thing. See the append disc included with Master of Arena? Almost every one of the 300 enemy mechs is copied from a tournament player.

Did american kids play paperboy after eating lead paint chips and being beaten by their parents after school?
>>
>>11994864
I preferred Rad Racer.
>>
>>11994864
I don't understand attempts to insult Americans as if we had some shared culture or set of circumstances. I guess America as a country confused non-Americans.
>>
OP your best chance at actually getting an answer to this question is to use the 2ch archives:

Here are three threads from 2000 about King's field:

Sorry, I don't think we can definitively identify any of them as salarymen specifically.
>>
>>11994864
>being beaten by their parents after school?
America was the very first country to make beating your kids socially unacceptable and illegal.
>>
>>11995131
Even they knew it wasn't an RPG.
lol
>>
>>11991658
i lost
>>
>>11990986
it's probably more likely they blew some yen at a game center near a train station.
>>
>>11994524
Yes but statistically if a couple hundred Japanese salarymen played Kings Field after work one of them probably was eating natto as well.
>>
>>11991021
the frogposts stay up too

>>11995503
You're braindead.

No but now they trade crypto to repay their student loans after narrowly avoiding Haitian drivers without licenses and Indian truck drivers on the highway.

>>11991021
Mods on most anonymous message boards all have double standards and likely do it out of spite. It's unpaid work for losers after all. I got banned someplace else because apparently disagreeing with a retarded opinion is offensive while a report about something off topic got completely ignored.
>>
>>11995118
>Don't mess with me!!
I'll definitely kill you!!
I was so impressed when I played 2 first, and
then I won 3 and Shadow brand new!!
I'll kill you!! I'll definitely kill you!!

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>11998551
>What did he mean by this?
Based on the little I know of Gundam Wing, I believe this is a flirting attempt.
