That's when you're expected to have already settled into a stable salary job and family life, and have that be your lot in life pretty much until you croak. So in that sense, beyond your position, wealth, and standing in the hierarchy, the life of a 30 year-old is pretty much the same as that of the 60 year-old. I could see that being very stifling for those who yearn for more, which is why youth is idealized as the age where life still has possibilities beyond the boring, repetitious crunch of adult life.
