It's just way too hard, I'll never be able to get into fighting games after all

Just touch any button quickly and you will get a combo

Check out Mortal Kombat. With Raiden you can press back, back, forward and he flies across the screen. Really effective.

If you are playing single player a fuckton of fighting games have ridiculous unfair AI that outright cheats (does things human players can't), also I feel like a real arcade stick is better for beginners, than possibly some blown out snes controller from the 90s. Just practice, getting my shoryuken's down for the first time with this in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkdz9hl-cVQ was one of my best gaming moments. btw it's been a year or two since that on and off, and I still haven't 1cc'd a single fighting game. But I beat a real player on fightcade once, so that felt good.
>>
fighting games are brutal fucking games though, in single player mode, or against other players. Apparently playing in single player sets you up for failure against real players, and hyper autists cling to these games, and will burn their daily 3-4 hours of vidya on just a single fighting game.
>>
As a casual player, I feel like I lose all my skill (which isn't much to begin with) in a fighting game if I don't play it for a week or so, it sucks
>>

That's why you play it for a few minutes in your head every other day or so. Btw, if you can git gud at SF II Hyper Fighting, then you can beat any arcade fighting game through the 90s, until they become insane combo-fests thereafter.

they're harder

>play in your head

Ha! Where do you think you're at?

>u are going to get snk hard-raped.
I should have said except Neo-Geo/SNK fighting games that are on another level.

Nta, but fuck yes they are. Guile, Bison, Honda? All hard to do well with.
>>
>>11992861
I can beat any of them down from any player.

fair enough, I respect the dedication, otaku-sama.

This is a funny phenomenon of modern fighting games. As a kid, a character like Blanka or Chun-li was clearly easy mode for babies. I walk back for a little bit, then forward and an attack button and I get a special. I just mash on the controller and I get a special. Hold down, then up and a button, a special. Meanwhile I have no idea how to do a shoryuken with Ryu other than accidentally getting it out while trying to do a hadouken, and even after reading how to do it on a magazine it was still hard to get it to come out. But nowadays the general perception changed, because everyone can do motions and people are trying to do advanced combos, and doing those while managing your charge is indeed hard.

I recommend the following:
KOF 98/99 on PS1. There is a setting mode where you can map moves on the trigger buttons and the supers on pressing 2 triggers. I think also you can give yourself super moves and boss style health as well.
Evil Zone where all commands but block (Square) are doing by using the triangle button.
Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus. Its fun and I think the community isnt full of pros like new games. I have a decent record on steam due to facing enough enemies on my level.
Fighting Games are fun when you can of read the AI. The online community is worthless unless you go hard on practicing shit every day.

>Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus
I thought this was supposed to be a really hard game to learn and play

Stick to one character.
I have never cared to learn a few to counter others so I just mostly used my favorite one. Zato/Eddie the shadow guy. No idea where he ranks but im sure he isnt in the top.
And its not like I master everything. Like the mechanic "roman cancel" has the version that cancels the move at any moment so you can use it to create your own combos. It consumers half your super energy. The other version is called false roman cancel but this one uses much less energy meter at the expense you have to use it at the specific point of the move you are using so this one is harder to use so i just dont attempt to learn it.
In general I find GGAC the most fun to play as Im able to beat the AI on the hardest setting.
The issue with old fightans is that its full of people who have played them for years and its nature as arcade cabinet ports mean they are not fun to play due to skill gap with other players or the AI loves to cheat so you put more dimes.
GGAC+ is fun to play since you are given more room to experiment and succed since the AI is manageable.
Also GG has always been niche and only recently got big unlike say SF in which all versions (Alphas, 3, 2) which have been played up until the new entries so you face guys with decades of experience while GG only the new games are full of pros. AC+ has more players up varied player levels probably because most pros moved to the new games.
In general I think I am a normie when it comes to fighters and of the ones I have tried, GGAC+ is the one I feel the most skilled to enjoy as a challenge.
Of the characters in it I would say picking Ky and Sol would be a good bet. They are the ones easier to play as since they dont have such outlandish gimmicks like Ino, Faust or Venom.

Really give Evil Zone a go. Its unique and I think it has a great cast. Its very fun.
