If a man disliked Spyro should a man try Spyro II
Yeah, it takes like 5 seconds to download it and boot it in an emulator. Why not?
Sure, because all 3 Spyro games are similar but different. I don't dislike 1, but it definitely has the most barebones approach of the 3.
It's always worth trying if you're willing. Though I will tell you that if you disliked Spyro 1 because of the gameplay you will most likely hate 2. It retains largely the same formula with only minor additions in mechanics.

No, Spyro's movements are more fluid and less stiff but the game itself is identical except now some of the collectibles require beating minigames that detract from the core fast paced collectathon gameplay, with the minigames being very hit or miss (mostly miss).
