Streets of Rage keeps many of the motifs of the first two games while adding some depth to the combat with juggling and an addition of global leaderboards and even a wave survival mode. I've got Hundreds of hours in the game and still return to it multiple times a year. Unfortunately given what the developers have put out since then I believe it was simply a fluke, lightning in a bottle that the developers are unable to recapture again.
