The weirdest thing is that Americans online act like they created and manufactured it. You can criticize Atari and Microsoft and no one bats an eyelid, but say something bad about Nintendo hardware and they become like rabid dogs and start babbling about Europeans this Europeans that. It's super weird.
>>11994405It's the mutt law number 2
>>11994405Japan is owned by america since ww2 so it's technically true
>>11994405>I have America always on my mindmind broken
>>11994418What you mean is that Israel created the NES
>>11994405Doesn't that mean they aren't acting like they created it?
>>11994045Why is the second person pretending to play the game.
>>11994547He's retarded and thinks he's the one playing. Good way to keep your tard brother out of trouble.t. retarded
>>11994405I see way more anti-nintendo stuff (and a lot of it from the same guy, as he uses the same lingo everytime) than pro-nintendo stuff on modern /vr/This board used to be a lot more Anti-console war in its heyday
What a stupid fucking gay thread. I miss when this board had moderation.
>>11994045>WhyAmerican developers at the time were either still reeling from the crash, which kept them scared off from developing console games, or were making games on PCs instead because that scene remained unaffected. American publishers on the other hand were perfectly fine with supporting the NES because they can just outsource to Rare or Atlus or any number of uncredited contractors to quickly shit out a game based on a movie license or what have you. By the time American developers returned to consoles it was too late to make NES games, with the Genesis and SNES having taken over instead.>>11994405>The weirdest thing is that Americans online act like they created and manufactured it.I don't know what forums you go to but I've literally never seen this statement. Even children at the time seemed to understand that Nintendo wasn't exactly a domestic product.
>>11994431a great miracle happened there
>>11995442This. People meme that "the crash never happened" as a way to push back against the equally silly official Nintendo narrative, but the crash was a real thing in the US, similar to the dotcom crash that many of you surely remember. A ton of companies just flat went out of business, and yeah, some of them were cash-grab crap factories who deserved it, but a lot were good companies just caught out by the investor panic, and suddenly had no money to keep the lights on. Investors didn't want to touch anything related to consoles for a long time thereafter. Meanwhile, a lot of the remaining developers also didn't trust the market wouldn't implode again, and why take a risk moving back (and potentially scaring your investors) when you've already successfully migrated to the computer market?
>>11994045Klax is fine. Maniac Mansion is good. Eliminator Boat Duel is probably fine? (Haven't played it since I was a kid.) Ghoul School, though hideous-looking and janky, is good. Oops I guess I'm nobody now.
>>11994405Nintendo of Europe really fucked up in marketing the NES, basically selling it for aristocrats only. That's why NoA is considered crucial and NoE not so much, they threw out the plan that worked in America and did some weird exclusive shit with a luxury department store.
>>11994350>final fantasy>americanDid you forgot your brain
>>11995571>Maniac Mansion is goodDamn straight.
>>11994045> domestic product is bad> imported product is much, MUCH higher quality“Why did they buy it when there weren’t any good domestic games?”God you people are retards

>>11994045>whycost. the big money to be made at the time was by selling computer software for apple 2, c64, pc etc. nintendo demanded a steep price when it came to licensing and a cut from all software sold. another problem is that nintendo didn't have any proper development kit for it. people had to cobble together their own using expensive (cost of car in 1985 dollars) in-circuit emulators or custom made boards to interface with it.>>11994350not american. nasir gebelli, an iranian, had only been in america for around 5 years or so before he was hired to work for square in japan.>>11996116>gets btfoamazing work, anon.only fucked this post up twice. sorry for the deletions and reposting. am going blind.
>>11994059sweatie...
>>11994045>>11995442Nintendo didn't give out dev kits to American developers. SEGA and later PlayStation did. that's all there was to it. >>11995610the real issue is the Euro market was tiny compared to the US one. 'European consumer market' in 1989 just meant the UK, France, West Germany, and Italy back then. all those countries combined made for a population roughly equivalent in size to Japan, except they all spoke different languages and had wildly different cultures and cultural expectations. the failure of Nintendo in Europe is what allowed PC gaming to flourish there. the C64 was essentially the NES of Europe.
Thinking about us AGAIN?
>>11994405The thing is, you basically have to be a retard or trying to start trouble, to insinuate the NES is bad.The fact that the NES has a really good library isn't a fact that's contested by anyone seriously into games.
When did American developers start creating good console games? The fifth generation?
>>11996620It's not even saying bad stuff about the NES; usually simply saying that you grew up with another system in the late 80s is enough to send those people into a tard rage against you. /vr/ americans are really weird and defensive about that for some reason.
>>11996270>not american. nasir gebelli, an iranian, had only been in america for around 5 years or so before he was hired to work for square in japanHe's an American, America is a land of immigrants, that's its thing.
