Let’s talk all things Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Sega CD, and 32X. Share your favorite games, hidden gems, hardware setups, modding tips, or just wax nostalgic about the 16-bit era and its wild add-ons. What's spinning in your console right now?
>Best Mega Drive shmups: Thunder Force IV vs. M.U.S.H.A.?
>Sega CD’s FMV cheese: Worth revisiting Night Trap or Sewer Shark?
>32X: Does anyone actually play Virtua Racing Deluxe or Knuckles' Chaotix?

Protip: If your Sega CD’s disc drive is acting up, check the laser alignment or swap the fusr, common fix for read errors.

Been playing Shining Force II lately. Goddamn, that game’s strategy RPG mechanics hold up. The sprite work is pure sovl.

I like Wonder Boy in Monster World more than Monster World IV.

always wanted to play Popful Mail but never really got the time to do it, maybe it's this year that's happening. lawd give me your energy
>>
I'm playing Snatcher, recommended.

It's the #1 gem of the Master System library. If grandma got me MS instead of NES by mistake in '85, I wouldn't feel cucked if I got WBIMW with it. There's a superb port for PC Engine CD too

I gotta say, it's pretty overhyped unless you REALLY like sidescrollers. It's charming and has a great soundtrack, but it's not a great game by any means.

I love it. Has that kinda Mega Man addictive feel to it, even if sometimes slowed down by rpg type stuff like npcs and needing to trigger events. It sucks Falcom never did more follow up adventures of Mail.

What’s the bestest version of the Genesis w its addons?

Make sure to play the Un-Worked Designs version
TL;DR when Working Designs localized the game they changed tons of shit to make the game "harder" (more tedious)

boring answer but i'm going through the sonic games now, haven't played em since i was a kid. idk how i used to suck so badly at them, i don't think i ever got past the second zone in any of them. although saying that, the final boss in 2 was some bullshit until i learned how to lure him.

I've been playing about with Doom CD32X Fusion on real hardware and it's really cool. Incredible piece of work making it run as well as it does on the silly plastic mushroom.
Plutonia hasn't been implemented yet (at least in the version I have) but the music files are there, so here's a recording off my actual system because the MIDI conversions/arrangements sound really good.

Mega CD. Mega SOUL.

For me it's the model 1 base unit and CD. Simply looks right and sounds right.(unless you're unlucky and got a VA7 but those aren't a thing here in PAL-land.)
>>
I just 1cc'd Castlevania Bloodlines on Normal. It was almost a no-death run but the grim reaper fight totally fucked me health-wise and then Dracula's flames got me. Really great game, might be my favourite Classicvania.

Given how hard it is to get a Mega CD locally (I want to be able to easily return something if it's shit) I just went with the Everdrive Pro route.
Should arrive in a week or so.
Despite the small library it still has enough quality titles that make it worth the purchase (unlike say the Jaguar or even 32x).

Also modding a PAL mega drive to NTSC is quite easy, just cut a trace and replace the osscilator with an NTSC one. you can get a 5pack for a few Euro from ali express.
A lot cheaper than importing one from the US or japland

You don't even need the oscillator if you don't mind the speed not being completely exact and use RGB video. Just cut the region traces, throw a three way switch in so you can flip between US/EU/JP on the fly and away you go. The sheer ease of region modding is one of my favourite things about the Mega Drive.

Without the correct oscillator I got video 'hickups' once every few seconds. I believe the default timing is already offspec, and without replacing the oscillator it probably just pushed it over the edge to a point where my TV no longer likes it.
(I'm using a modern TV with the rad2x upscaler)

Oh and also that damn reset button seems to be unrealiable as hell. I've had my hand on quite a few systems and most of the time the reset button failed. Fortunately these are also very easy to replace (with a clicky button instead though)

Right enough I forgot about the video hitching on many modern displays. I'm spoiled by my old tube.
Interesting note about the reset buttons, I haven't run into a broken one myself.

his game looks great.
too bad it plays like shit.

>Does anyone actually play Virtua Racing Deluxe?
I do. Much like Virtua Fighter it’s weirdly one of the best 90s home ports of it.
