Sound design for Midway at the time was so good. This and Mortal Kombat really had a lot added to them due to the great sound effects and atmosphere.

Yeah, weird how different the game would have been if they had done everything they wanted to.

Adam Bomb as a playable character, Mr Perfect as a playable character, a referee walking around and getting hit all the gime, wrestlers having weird fatalities, wrestlers getting chopped in half.. would have been wild.

I liked in your house better, but maybe that's because I had the ps1 copy of IYH and the SNES copy of Wrestlemania the arcade game with the 6 characters.

This is only enabled for 1 on 1 matches and disabled for other types. I assume you start World Championship ladder, which starts with 1 vs 2. Try international Championship.

MAME has a cheat to enable these special effects for all types of matches

>Genesis wins

For all of the complaints that could be made about the Genesis port. The low colour sprites and backgrounds, the GEMS audio driver, the need for a 6-button game pad, but it is still playable with a 3-button game pad. It really is better than the SNES version. The SNES port is missing two characters and the slowdown is awful. For a 1995 release the SNES port is laughable,

https://youtu.be/9ORHLQOO_-A?t=62

32x port is built from the Genesis/ MD game. But uses the 32x high colour sprite layer for the characters, the sprites are bigger and more animated. The voice samples use the 32X sound channels. But the game runs at 30fps.

>Pro Wrestlers of that era really did have short lifespans. Most seem to die before they are 70. Was it the massive use of steroids?
Steroid abuse doesn't help but a shitton of them take painkillers that destroy their body. Because at the end of the day, even if fights are predetermined, like Goldberg said
>“We may know how it ends up, but you can’t fake gravity. When you get thrown off the top rope, you just got thrown off the top rope and it hurts.”
People give wrestlers like The Miz shit for wrestling in a way that plays it safe, but that guy is going to actually live to see his grandchildren as a result of it.
>>
Most of the new wrestlers are going to die early too, a lot of them ard spot monkeys so painkiller addiction will hit them even harder.

Real Talk

I went to EVO in 2016 and there would be this last moment micro tournaments that would happen in the smaller mess halls.

Someone ran this but using the Arcade rom dump on a Pie with 2 fight sticks.

I didn't play or join but I watched and the take away was that Razor Ramon was Top Tier and had crazy long ass combos and that Yokozuna was the only other answer to Top Tier Razor Ramon players (He had a somewhat broke attack with a salt bag that had a huge hit box)

I don't know who is bottom tier, I didn't see many Lex or Shawn players but then again that might not mean anything.

I for one get a RAVAGING boner whenever I see cartoons like Captain N or Super Mario Bros Super Show or The Power Team feat. Johnny Arcade.

It is for the better that they removed these. It really didn't fit in with the WWF branding at all.

>Kevin Nash in a shoot interview (Kayfabe Timelines 1995) talked about how it bothered him on Lex and Doink got in the game and not him and how that was a big pay date he missed out on.

Doink the Clown was being pushed hard during the New Generation of WWF. It was a strong gimmick. WWF still used the original Doink likeness for this game, even though Matt Borne was fired from the WWF and there was a new Doink replacement. I never really understood the popularity of Lex Lugar. Wasn't Kevin Nash (Diesel) gone from the WWF when this game released? he was in the WCW at that point. The New generation era was a really transitional point for personalities. They were doing what they could to move away from the Hulkamania era.

This game had the snappiest, best presentation of any fighting game ever. I don't care for the actual gameplay systems, but it moved with a rapid pace that almost every modern fighting game could learn a lot from.
>>
>>12002108
>Wasn't Kevin Nash (Diesel) gone from the WWF when this game released?
No, the game took six months to make and came out in october 1995, Nash did not leave until spring 1996.
So from may to october 95 they did not know that nash was gonna leave, hell even scott hall is in the game and he left even a little earlier than nash did.

The game took too long to be made. The wrestlers footage was recorded in 1993. They have the original Doink (Matt Borne) in this game, who was fired from WWF in November 1993. Diesel was just a mid carder with bodyguard gimmick that year
>>
>>12001085
Wish Davey didn't went to WCW and ruined his career and body.
Vince didn't want to se him die, and did all he could to save him, but WCW and Bret did ruin him.
And when he died, Vince sent help for his family to pay the hospital bets and even have his family money so they could settle after his departure.

>>12002174
Someone should ask Shawn if he also got to see MK3's development since Midway was working on both games at that time, would be interesting if they reached him to play Shang Tsung

>>
>>12000232
Professional wrestlers used to be carnies. They were unhealthy freak shows who used roids to get big, coke and pain killers to get them through matches and liquor to help them sleep. They were constantly on the road driving around country sleep deprived, lifting 3-4 days a week in between practicing for matches and working matches, much of which involved hurling themselves onto the ground and bending and twisting their exhausted bodies. They never gave themselves chances to recover or rest, and as soon as the youthful energy and incredible bounceback of their 20s disappeared they became chronically riddled with problems in their 30s, but kept pushing themselves because they convinced themselves they could handle it as long as they could get in a few snorts, shots, and jabs.
>>
>>12000490
The only reason taker stayed loyal to vince was because he knew hogan and the other old guard were going to run wcw into the ground and that he was going to be one of the biggest stars in the wwf by default. He was always a politician and I bet we'll start to hear some greaseball stuff about him in the coming years.
>>
>>12003206
i cannot believe a jaw like that is even possible
>>
>>12003413
People at Midway saw that jaw and said "perfect to play our asian ninjas"
>>
>>12003243
Ackshually he thought about leaving because he felt the WWF was too childish, but he didnt like WCW because they once told him that he'd never draw a dime.

>"That was appealing, but there was never… even though it was completely different people, it was WCW that told me that I’d never draw a dime in this business. As much as I used that for fuel, as open-minded as I think I am and as I’ve matured, you would think like, ‘Okay, don’t be stupid. Take the money.’ But that always hung out there."
>>
>>12003430
and then he proved them wrong and even bishoff admits it since american badass would be his gig at wcw

WCW had one amazing idea and milked it till people were sick of it, and yeah Taker would have become Mean Mark again, wigh some skits about him being a biker.
The highlight of his time in WCW would have been him feuding with The Disciple about who looked more bikerish.

i've not only played them all, i own them all, and i mod them.

i am probably one of the best no mercy hackers you've never heard of because it's all been monetized by faggots now. i make awesome mods and never release them because it's more fun for me.

the AKI games cannot be topped, the only reason why you would think WM2K would be better is....well there's literally no reason.

VPW2 would be an argument. Revenge would be an argument if you prefer WCW. but since you can make literally all the wrestlers from Revenge in No Mercy, with far better gameplay (don't give me the 'but it's slower' that hasn't been an issue for years and years, modders fixed that long ago), No Mercy is the best.

the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
>>
>>12002108
no Luger actually left for WCW before Nash.

and yeah, Luger had zero personality and was a one trick pony. Fans marked out hard for him tho.
>>
>>12004056
Well, yeah, Luger was infamously the "opening shot" in the Monday night wars. Nash and Hall were just the nuke.
>>
>>12003541
i've been rewatching Nitro starting in 1996 on muh cytube channel, and this is absolutely retardedly wrong.

WCW got their entire luchador faction over, Alex Wright, Jericho, hell even guys like fucking Disco Inferno, not to mention the ECW guys like Raven and his flock, not to mention DDP (arguably the most popular WCW wrestler at several points), and not to EVEN mention the 4 Horseman (flair just coming out for an interview with Mean Gene would get the biggest pop of the night, every single week).

ric flair was easily the most over with WCW fans, then Sting, then DDP. this is because Flair actually worked while Sting was just popping pills, showing up for his five minutes, then bailing. Yes, everyone marked out for it, and yes it was kino af, but looking back as adult, it's clear to see why all the fans loved Flair so much. he's the goat.

even guys like Luger got MASSIVE pops. the episode i ended on this week was the episode where Luger upsets Hogan for the heavyweight title, massive moment for the show and Luger. probably his highest moment, and the fans were going absolutely apeshit.

thinking WCW was just the nWo and Sting is retarded and a clear sign you didn't watch and only know what you know from youtube videos.

>>12003663
this is also wrong, when you look up the ratings, WCW at their LOWEST point was still getting ratings better than almost anything today.

it was just a perfect storm of Ted Turner not giving a shit anymore, AOL/Time Warner merger, and the new owners not caring about WCW like Turner did when his grandson was a big fan. With the Turner money gone, Vince saw his opportunity and killed WCW, which in hindsight was retarded as he could have easily just kept it going and would have ended up making more money.

instead, he basically ruined the WCW talent, kept a few guys around, and just buried the rest.
>>
>>12003738
this guy is absolutely correct.
>>12003886
this guy is absolutely retarded.

youtubers who never watched the monday night wars want you to believe WCW sucked because they only watched WWF.

WCW wasn't just better, it was EASILY better from like '95 to '98. it wasn't even close, WCW's roster was absolutely insane. the way they incorporated Japanese and Latino wrestlers, while Vince wouldn't give them any air time at all, made the difference.

the low/mid card of WCW was *insanely* entertaining. like who you would rather watch:

a six man tornado tag match with Super Calo, La Parka, Psicosis vs Rey Mysterio, JL, and Juventud Gurrerra?

or

Tommy Rogers vs Bobby Fulton?

WWF was scrambling hard for any kind of traction other than Stone Cold and Bret Hart. their roster was insanely top heavy with absolutely ZERO midcard entertainment, that's why they did the ECW invasion arc to try and get guys like Rob Van Dam over.

La Parka and Alex Wright alone were more entertaining than basically the entire WWF roster at that point. and WCW had a FUCKTON of japanese wrestlers during this era too, Jushin Thunder Liger, Ultimo Dragon, Great Muta, Masahiro Chono, like come on bro lmao.
