FINANCIER MODO
This gaem is incredibly brutal for what it is.
Is it true that Data East sued Face out of business for cloning Magical Drop?
>>11996203Yea. The game is pretty similar to Magical Drop to be fair, but mostly better imo
>Money Idol Exchanger>there are no idols, the protagonist and her friend are magical girls fighting other transforming people What did Face mean by this.>also the manga has Asahi physically beat the shit out of SakuraOk I know what they meant by this one at least
Wonder how many people played it at all here. That's probably everyone already.
Playing the PS1 port with an arranged soundtrack makes me sad that there never was a Neo Geo CD version.
>>11996776I'm also playing the PSX port here and having a melty on the VS CPU scoreboard because I have to kill the final boss twice here.
What were they thinking
>>11997038Magical girls
>>11997038source?
>>11997408The manga with the same name as the game, Money Idol Exchanger. It's pretty wild. >MC gets hit by a car, goes to hell, strikes a deal with some spirit and gets revived as magical girl, but she needs to pay back a massive debt>brainwashed and crazy best friend beating her up and then laughing when she is getting finished by somebody else>the pink haired waitress serving poisoned food
>that middle schooler who beat everyone at a tournament and it wasn't close>>11996776psx ost goated
I have one of those weird korean pc official releases that im pretty sure from what I remember, was just MAME on a cd.
>>11997538>reprogrammed
>>11997520>>that middle schooler who beat everyone at a tournament and it wasn't closeHow did he do it
>>11998329her parents had an arcade cabinet that she played on all the time. also she mirror matched everyone.
>>11998371>herThat got at least 50% less believable, but I can still see it happen in nipland.>mirror matched everyone Honestly it's fair. There isn't really a tier list for this game but the difference in garbage lines will absolutely give one player the advantage.Based on my experience I can just say:>Actually playable tierEveryworked, Eldylabor, Macker, Mightdealer>"thanks for the free chains" tierExchanger, Debtmeiser>"why are they even playable" tierCherrybeiter, Coquetry
>>11998382Why both the MCs suck balls?
>>11998389idk they are barely above the stage 1/2 shitters. Mind you, the only actual difference between the last two tiers is that one is free chains, ths other is free screen clears.
>>11996204Oh yeah them bitches were scared of the better game and had to eradicate the company making it
>>11999228Unfortunately it worked.
>>11997538There's a legit Windows 95 port with higher res visuals.
>>11999289Hot. brb making a VM for this.
Kinda ironic that the manga above that literally starts with sending Sakura/Exchanger to hell and says she deserved it actually ends up making her out to be a better person than the in-game story mode, where she took nearly 2m yen from her best friend.
I've never liked it, I feel they blew up their budget onto the presentation with the high tier cast and getting Atsuko Ishida for the designs, but the in game presentation is very mild and the base mechanics are a mess, overcomplicating something that simple is not fun.
>>11999291You found the executable?
>>11999382Easily, it's on MyAbandonware. But I haven't tested yet, installing a Win98SE VM right now.
>>11999391Thanks. Didn't even know that site existed. Downloading now.
>>11999379It's just magical drop but the colors have scaling values.
Remember playing this on NeoRageX, I used to be very confused about the name... until one day I looked closer and realized that it's saying "Money" and not "Monkey"I always used to assume the title was just a nonsensical Engrish word salad
>>11999431Wait until you find out it has "idol" in the name but there are no idols.
>>11999434What do you think Mammon is?
>>11999379After a while you just do that stuff without even thinking.
>>11999446To be fair, I should try it with more patience later
>>11999452Cool. Don't actually pick the pink girl though she is fucking shit and even the CPUs can chain her lines to death.
>>11999454What about the catgirl?
>>11999820Exchanger? Unfortunately also bad, just not THAT bad.
>>12000361Ever heard of twinkle star sprites?
The Win9x sort of works but I ran into two issues so far: if you try to leave midgame the game hangs forever and the audio doesn't seem to work.Should try with the japanese version of Win98 because the font is also not displaying properly. Think I can install the Japanese locale without actually reinstalling the VM?
Fucking rekt.I basically had to spam chains at the start, because if the opponents actually got to play with Cherrybeiter's garbage lines they instakill my ass.
Anyway, back to the arcade and the win9x versions, I can confirm the PSX one is much harder.Though it might be because I have international for the first two and japanese for the latter.
>>12000721>>12000857Score comparison to give a vague idea of how long it takes and how much you have to be chaining
Sorry for the back-to-back posts but I gotta add the Hard mode 1cc on my first attempt. There are 8 stages, the last one is a mirror match but stage 7 was harder anyway lol. What the fuck am i even doing today.
We talked about it in another thread, but anyone would be up to play it on fightcade?Could do 18:00CEST (16:00 UTC) tomorrow
>>12001840What could possibly go wrong
>>12001890>hobbies: deceiving peopleWhat kind of hobby is that.
>>11999820>>12000357Everyworker is the best character. Whenever we play duel mode we only do mirror matches and almost exclusively as Everyworker.
>>12002957Macker definitely better but the difference isn't massive. Still, using your pic as reference, you will be fine as long you pick the 2nd row characters. Everyone in the 1st row imo has too easy garbage lines that the opponent can chain very quickly.
>>12002971Yeah, the bottom line better "tier" is an observation I've made too. What about the other two? The woman with the curly blonde hair (can't remember her name), isn't she like the last boss?
>>12003016Yes, but the only reason she is so scary in the CPU mode is because the CPU fucking cheats. If you watch her screen in stage 7 you will see she just teleports all around, players can't do that.
>>12003039Lol whenever I get there I'm way too fucking busy juggling my own shit to notice what she's up to. Only game I've ever 1CCd. Well, maybe I did Twinkle Star too.
Now talk about surprising. The Win version actually works on Win11 too as long you install it on older windows first and then copy over the folder+have the iso mounted+8-bit color mode.Except it has basically the same issues. (BGM doesn't play, hangs forever at this screen if you try to leave midgame)
>>12003078That's pretty cool. So how does it differ? What's the native resolution? From your screenshot it seems to render in 800x600, but are all the graphics fitted to that resolution, or are some of them "pixely" compared to others?
>>12003092800x600 and has some upscale filter. Also the scoring is broken as fuck. Read that shit lol
The Hamster ACA Neogeo port is shit in case you are wondering. Just emulates the arcade version and doesn't have things like netplay nor the additions from the PSX/old Windows version. There is also a GB version it's kinda weird because technically it's still VS but you cannot see what's going on the oppo screen, apparently has a 2player VS mode too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAhTrckiN2Q
>>12003078It's common to have the main game run on newer versions of Windows but the installer either fail to install or not even run at all. I assume it's because the installer is some much older pre-made one that is just being re-used. I remember in the DOS era just about every game had it's own installer, usually only seeing the same one from the same developer and even then not always the case, but by Windows many started using the same 2-3 standard installers. Would not be surprised if many of those installers were 16 bit even if the main app is 32.And then you have those which check your system requirements and refuse to install if you don't have enough RAM or HDD space with no override... even though you in reality have so much that the installer is unable to detect them and just reads it as zero.
>>12003525>I assume it's because the installer is some much older pre-made one that is just being re-usedYep. Seems to run up to WinXP or Vista/7 at least.>Would not be surprised if many of those installers were 16 bit even if the main app is 32.Case in point. Still, while the game does run on modern Windows I can't really recommend this because it's really just a worse version of the PSX port with a shitty filter, even excluding the issues I got on my end. Only thing it does better than the PSX port is performance, since unfortunately that one has slowdown.
>>12003096the player characters do have a certain lookin' good quality to them
>>12001890>>12001840I'm online on fightcade, name starts with J
>>12003874Cool, I will try to send a challenge.
We are done btw
Played some Magical Drop last night. I dunno Puzzle Bobble is still my favorite of these bubble shooting games
>>12001840>>12003874>>12003878>>12003985You are telling me /vr/ actually plays fightcade? Bullshit.
>>12003989puzzle bobble and puzzle de pon are great.too bad the stages become bullshit fast.
>>12004007despite popular beliefs, channers do play video games
>>11999379I think it's more the fact that MD holds the perfect balance between skill planning and autistic spamming that tilting it a bit more to the former cements it as a relatively basic experience that doesn't have much scaffolding for complexity.
>>12004040But I'm liking money idol moreand being a fan of magical girls has absolutely nothing to do with it
>>12004046It's more fun than Magical Drop, it feels good and is super satisfying.
>>12004053That it does.
