lol, third parties are so niggardly
>>
>>11996125
The point is, cartridge games should have saves by default, they're not CDs.
>>
>>11996174
Having save RAM in the cart adds up.
>>
Man up and play through the entire games without the memory card
>>
>>11996120
Just emulate them

Doom 64 and Quake 2 64 also got native PC ports

Did not stop ASCII from creating external save memory devices for Famicom and Supa Famicom.
>>
>>11996120
Guess what? The coin cell battery in your controller pak is out of juice. You cannot use it to save.
>>
Third-party FPS games never put out the cash for saving to the cartridge because "hurr durr multiplayer best when you can bring your profile and settings with your controller!"
It'd be neat and useful as an option, but not the only method of saving the game.
>>
>>11996405
Any newer fanmade devices that can plug into the N64 controller and function as a controller pak + vibration?
>>
Nintendo and Rare had flirted with Controller Pak saving additional data in games, as seen in Mario Kart 64 and Blast Corps, but they quickly realized that the whole thing is stupid.
>>
>>11996497
Rare even wanted to try hot cartridge swap for extra content but then abandoned the idea.
>>

Doom 64 has a password system for if you don't have a memory pack.
>>
>>11996174
Just admit you're broke
>>
>>11996405
Just install a new one, dumbass

Better than a console having a full ass hard drive like the Xbox or PS3 that'll go dead in ~7 years.
>>
>>11997113
you can easily clone it and replace it on the ps3

The Cartridge Is Not Enough
>>
Nintendo would really rather make money off an accessory than put a battery in their cartridge like they did every other system.

I 'member geting to bed while my n64 was turned on all night, just to play the area 51 level (thps) during daylight because I was a afraid os aylmaos
>>

Nintendo always put a battery in their games, it was always the 3rd parties making cheap ports that would jump at the chance to save 50c per cart.
>>
>>11996120
It's worse because sometimes the Japanese version lets you save on the cartridge like a normal person, but for some reason the PAL and US versions really wanted you to invest in a controller pak.

>controller pak + vibration
literally impossible.
the controller pak protocol doesn't allow it.
now, if you mean a device that can do both but has a switch to work as mem pak or rumble pak. the tremor pak plus kinda does that.
it has a slot to plug an extra pak and a switch to passthrough whatever you plugged there.
>>
>>11996120
Quake 64 and doom 64 have password systems, the controller pak save is only for convenience
