What are the best movies/cartoons/etc that got the worst /vr/ adaptations? (and vice versa: worst source materials adapted into good or great games)
For vice-versa, instead of just yelling about the best, I'll nominate the old Golgo 13 games for something more interesting and obscure. They tend to represent the source really well while having good gameplay. How long until the Aladdin posts start?
I think Last Action Hero got some egregious games, considering the source material, there's possibilities for something interesting like maybe a Die Hard Trilogy take.
>>11996267Probably a safe bet but, this being /vr/, some anon will probably claim it's an underrated hidden gem
Escape from CyberCity is a light gun game for CD-i which utilizes footage from Galaxy Express 999 animated films. The game is borderline unplayable and requires ninja reflexes to get though.
the akira game on the NES is pretty fucking garbage, then for some reason they made a pinball game for the ps2
>>11996395There's also Akira for Amiga. Similarly regarded as garbage even by the fans of computer.
Certainly better than it's source material anyway, ditto for the NES game.>>11996267BTTF got hit pretty fucking hard with this, even the "good" games (Super BTTF2 and the telltale game) are still pretty damn mediocre.
This here is by far the best example I xan think of a masterpiece being turned into absolute dogshit. The City of Lost Children is an amazingly surreal and moving film by the guy who did Amelie and Delicatessen. Ron Pearlman is fantastic, I highly recommend. But then they tried to make this dreamlike French film into a point and click adventure game and the result is completely unplayable. The whole setting is this island made of rusting metal so it's all pre-rebdered backgrounds in PS1 resolution making everything a big brown smear. So you wander around looking for items to solve the shitty puzzles but you can't really make out what anything is. Every time you search and don't find anything the little girl you're playing says either "I can't do that" or "I can't do anything!" Just those two lines, over and over and over while you click every little fuzzy pixely brown spot hoping it's some how the scissors you needed. Very possibly one of the worst games I have ever played.
>>11996267who framed roger rabbit (the movie): fucking clever as hell, one of my favorite movies to this day (cartoon and animation enjoyer). THE NES GAME THOUGH? WHAT THE FUCK, the final fight nearly broke my thumb trying to infinitely wind up big punches and the boss HP was unnecessarily high. I WANTED TO OPERATE THE STEAMROLLER, not pick up a piece of machinery and fall into the dip myself if i misstepped. stupid LJN. it could have used way more vibrant color usage and way less wind-up punch garbage.
>>11996279Would be cool except for the gay mazes that belong in gay RPGs.
>>11996510my friend had this and one save ONE took up an entire 15 slot memory card (so did Discworld but that game's way better)we couldn't get past the two headed teacher and every time we tried to touch anything this little bitch would go "I can't manage it" in the laziest british tone and there wasn't a gamefaqs yet to get walkthroughs.
Nigga.
>>11996267>Darkman for NESBased on the Raimi cult-classic. The game actually has surprising good graphics, presentation, and music.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tWuUGAuzqcIt even adapted some interesting ideas from the movie, such as photographing enemies and then making masks to disguise yourself as them. While in disguise, you also use their weapons, à la Megaman. (although you're in disguise EVERYONE sees right through and still wants to kill you, lmao)Unfortunately, most of the game is an absolute SHIT platformer. The controls are slippery, yet many obstacles require precise timing and position. I particularly hated the rail sections. You quickly have to pick a direction and often there was no way to tell which lead to safety or death. The hit detection also seems inconsistent, making enemies more annoying than needed.>Captcha: A8HHH, kek
>>11996267It's the only game this movie got and it sucks ass. It deserved a decent arcade beat em' up at very least.
Godawful movie, fun game.
>>11996267The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day were fantastic films with awful adaptations besides the Virgin/SEGA ones, and maybe the T2 arcade title. As for the opposite case? Oddly enough I'd go for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, a mediocre film that got a pretty good GBA title.
>>11997112This game isn't particularly bad by 2600 standards, if you read the instructions. I played it at a convention a couple weeks ago and found it more engaging than most others which are just "make number go up"E.T. has objectives and a win state. It would almost be fun if the hitboxes were more intuitive. Also, the best synthpunk duo in Minneapolis call themselves E.T.give em a listen if you're into gay alien sounds:https://e-t-music.bandcamp.com/album/full-anarchism
>>11997839>it has an objective and a win statewhich you can complete in 30 seconds
>>11997859not quite
>>11996279>How long until the Aladdin posts start? You MF I was going to say something about it just to bait
someone copied this to the family 386 so i started it sometimes when i got bored with other games but i didn't know how progress at all so i assumed it was broken
>>11997839>full anarchismIn a full anarchy, I could use my ability to commit unimpeded violence to force everyone else into submission and re-establish the state under my rule. This is why anarchism doesn't work.
>>11997967what ability lol
>>11996267>worst source materials adapted into good or great games>film is considered one of the worst ever made>game has 80 on Meta and is one of the best FPS games on the system
>>11997007>my friend had this and one save ONE took up an entire 15 slot memory card Ihh my god yes, I remember that now. I only rented the game once, banged my head against the wall with it for far longer than it probably deserved and then I went to save thinking maybe I'd come back later less annoyed and it wanted me to format the whole memory card. What a pile of shit.
>>11997984No laws means I could just start stabbing people and stealing shit, assuming someone else doesn't get me first. Someone somewhere would have to enact laws and get people to enforce them for it all to stop, and you wouldn't have anarchy anymore. I don't buy the typical anarchist argument that some type of informal structure counts as anarchy. That's just an informal government.Fuck, I hate anarchists. They make some good music though.
>>11999491Anarchism is a process/methodology, not a destination. You could get away with stabbing a complete stranger right now. A third of murder cases are never closed. That isn't counting those that are never opened due to lack of corpse.
>>11999491>They make some good music thoughGod no they don't.
>>11996267The Simpsons
I would imagine Robocop belongs in this thread
Predator for the NES fucking sucked. Hard.
>>11999574>Anarchism is a process/methodology, not a destination.Sounds like something a filthy fucking anarchist would say. Also, nice Reddit spacing.>>11999624Musical taste is a highly subjective thing.
>>12000217Subjectivity is related to the abilities of the perceiver, and perception can be cultivated. Some music is fucking basic as hell and made for dummies by hacks.
>>12000217Reddit hasn't had "reddit spacing" for years. The default editing mode is wysiwyg (ask an adult if you don't know what that means)
>>11999491Anarchy as a social construct doesn't even exist. There is always going to be law and order, because the minute somebody decides "I'm going to do X thing you don't like and get other people to support me in doing it", you have law. "Anarchists" are just fags who go to music festivals, that is the extent of it.
>>12000223Opinion fucking discarded.>>12000230I know what "what you see is what you get" means, you dumb cunt. Odds are I'm probably older than you by about a decade. Old Reddit still exists and a lot of power users still use it.>>12000237Finally, someone who gets it.
Are the bots again arguing about irrelevant offtopic bullshit? Kill yourselves and post more games.
>>12000241Kek and lel.
>>12000240>Opinion fucking discarded.Yes, that's what I just said.
>>12000250You discarded my opinion, and I've discarded yours.
It takes one turbo retard playing semantics to derail a thread like that. Faggots like you deserve to be thrown to the crocodiles.
>>12000251No shit, that's what I said. Are you just now catching up?
>>12000240>bragging about being old at the klds tableducking why?
>>12000263Who gives a shit?>>12000264Kek.
What a bunch of retards
>>12000267Indeed.
>>12000265>Who gives a shit?You.lol
>>12000274True. I cared enough to leave a response. Funny how that works.
>>12000275Not really that funny, humans love to talk. It's what we are built to do.
>>12000280You're right, it's not that funny. But it's very true.
>>12000240>Finally, someone who gets it.If somebody describes themselves as an anarchist, you can immediately write them off as a complete retard. Anarchism is "I don't like cops and everybody should live in tents and smoke weed: the movement". Every person on this earth, and every institution created by people, has a definable goal which boils down to forcing an opinion on everyone else. A true "anarchist" would support me killing them and pissing on their corpse just because I felt like doing it, which would only lead to the elimination of their belief structure and the absolute supremacy of mine; and ironically, would undermine the very values they think they stand for. It's like that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where the family goes to Burning Man and a bunch of hippies watch Hal trying to grill burgers outside of his RV and they marvel at how he's "lambasting the banality of the modern man". Anarchists love order when it aligns with what they personally believe. Ironically, most of the queers that call themselves "anarchists" probably align more in their ultimate ideology with conservatives or national socialists than their western liberal friends, because what they really want is a situation where they can be left the fuck alone to hug trees and drink IPA beers on a 20 acre plot of land with well water and solar panels. Funny then, that they spend their time surrounded by homosexuals who live in confined, cement dystopias trying to destroy real freedom of expression.
>>12000308Video games
>>12000308>what they really want is a situation where they can be left the fuck alone to hug trees and drink IPA beers on a 20 acre plot of land with well water and solar panelsI'm a queer western liberal, albeit conservative leaning in some ways, and this sounds comfy as fuck. At least I'm willing to admit it, unlike those posturing self-righteous self-described "anarchist" fucks.
>>12000313>you can only talk about retro games on the retro games board broThat would be fine if 99% of the discourse on here wasn't significantly more mentally retarded garbage about Super Mario 64 being liminal horror or Crash Bandicoot being "chungus".
Nice discord faggotry you got there with your friends, now where are the games? Motherfuckers
Oh those are the same idiots of that Lain thread. the mask fell off.
I'm brapping this thread, with no survivors*BRRRRRRAAAAAPPPPPPPP*
