I wish Quake had an automap.

Quake II mogs Quake hard
>>
I haven't played it fr, but I watched a video essay about Quake and thought it was mid af. Goldeneye 007 was better on God, I never played it myself, but I used to watch my dad play it.

Zoomer here, I dropped Doom because i got tired of getting lost after killing everything. Will I like Quake? Can I just fight bots in a deathmatch? I liked Quake III on the dreamcast

Quake for the most part has much more linear level design; DOOM can get you lost if you didn't grow up with those games, but you'll have more fun with Quake.
For more games like Q3, play UT99, UT2004, or Quake Live

Just use the all keys cheat. That's how I played Doom and similar games when I was younger.
>>
>>11997836
Quake lost what made Doom magical. Having to aim vertically was too frustrating.

Not doing your job for a whole year, to the point that your colleagues eventually rebel and refuse to make your dream fantasy action RPG once you finally start taking your job seriously, and still ending up with a masterpiece game is certainly a sign of divine touch.

Just play Serious Sam.

You should play the Hexen series

he didn't even try that hard with Quake 1 bc it's not the game he wanted to make.

Have you tried manning up and not crying like a girl?

arguably, Quake 1 is even worse in that regard
Quake 2 is more readable in where to go, even with its hub levels
>>
>>12001279
Don't forget
>also read Masters of Doom

lmao absolutely not. The only time you might get lost in Q1 is E4. Everything looks the same in Quake II.

>Everything looks the same in Quake II
True. I got lost pretty often in Q1 but eventually beat it. Q2 I dropped during the first level for that reason.

This. It's otherwise a fairly linear shooter and is probably why I enjoy E4 the most.
Nowadays I prefer Q2, though. It's 95% Stroggbase but I like Stroggbase.

Looks like Romero made you his bitch
>>
>>12001317
I had the opposite impression. Quake 1 is the most readable out of bunch, especially compared to Quake 2 which is a clusterfuck that filtered 11 years old me fast decades ago.

Deleted and rephrased just in case, because last I checked mods were very anal about the underage rule.

Quake 1 is pretty linear and has good art direction/map flow so you're always moving toward the end. I think the only time I got turned around was maybe on the map The Wind Tunnels in World 3.
Yes, you can also fight bots in deathmatch.
>>

Then don't enable it. It's off by default.

90's Romero was. Modern Romero is a sissy that would get bullied by his former self.
