Does Dark Seed 2 have soft locks or a time limit like the first?
>>
>>11998190
No time limit. There are bad endings for messing up much like in the first game.
Not sure about soft locks, but it does have moments where it feels like it has glitched out because you didn't click on a pixel properly in one of the other screens.
>>
To be sorry.
To be hating Mike Dawson.
To be unable to play Dark Seed 2.
>>
>>11998190
Is this good? Is it playable without a guide?

Don't you have pride?
>>
>>11998583
The first one isn't really playable without a guide either.
>>
>>11998190
No, take your time, your brain isn't going to explode from fucking around in this one.

>>11998532
>Is this good?
It's an unintentional comedic masterpiece
Careful, the ring's heavy
>>
The guy who made these games teaches game design for a living. This is why games got worse, bad devs became teachers.

Mike Dawson (the actual person) had nothing to do with Darkseed II.
>>
>>11998794
I normally wouldn't, but there's nothing fun about Dark Seed's puzzles or logic, it's 90% throwing random shit at the wall to see what sticks, together with timing which day you do what.
You're not going to intuit your way through the game, because there isn't anything to intuit.

Maybe some people like that kind of puzzle solving, but to me, that's not the game forcing me to think and use my brain to get ahead, that's the game jerking me around because the devs themselves didn't bother doing any thinking themselves.

Dark Seed has cool officially licensed Giger art, but that's pretty much the only thing it has going for it. Japs blatantly ripping his art off did his work better justice.
>>
What a quaint general thread with a little bit of everything for day to day posting!
>>
>>11998846
You're right, but the devs of both games teach game design.
>>
>>11998910
well, you learn more by failing than by succeeding. so they're to ideal people to be teachers.
>>
>>11998897
I kinda do want to like Dark Seed, it has some charm, Dawson's dorky little narration being part of it. But man, it isn't fun to actually play.
>>
>>11998897
You have dared to touch a janny... you die!
>>
>>11998916
No one should teach game design or get a degree in it. Complete rip off.
>>
It does have a softlock, if you die in the dark world before getting the keycard, you're basically fucked.
>>11998532
Unironically, no. But with funny people, it can be sort of enjoyable. If you can't get funny friends to play along with you, I suggest watching the retsupurae series on it or Psychadelic Eyeball's playthrough.
Otherwise, it's basically a slog of exhausting dialog choices until something happens, and then it's exhausting dialog choices, it starts off interesting, but then goes nowhere before going to shit.

git gud n00b. back in the day it was all about trial and error with a little exploration

Good adventure games weren't put together out of nothing but brute force trial and error.

That old Old Man Murray article makes a thing about the driver's license puzzle in the Gabriel Knight game having bizarre and convoluted logic, and it DOES, but it also HAS a logic. The devs thought about how they were going to construct that puzzle and you can actually figure it out, even if you have to put yourself into a bizarre mindset. The devs made you actually think about the problem.
In fact, if you're used to those kinds of puzzles, you would be able to quickly suss out the bullshit and immediately start thinking about the intended convolution.

fucking ESL retard

Ironic
>>
A Dark Seed thread! I'd make a good post, but I'm too embarrassed.
>>
>>11999818
even all of the great lucas arts adventure games were all trial and error.

git gud, n00b.
>>
Has anyone tried remaking the first so it doesn't have that bullshit time limit and make things advance as you get items and solve puzzles like any sane adventure game?
>>
When you die why do the aliens put you into that little pod? Shouldn't they want you to live so the embryo hatches?
>>
>>12000135
lmao no
>>
>>12000260
How would you rework the jail puzzle though? Just have a reusable get out of jail free card?
>>
Dark Seed II is one of those games where literally every character hates you and constantly belittles you. It's annoying as fuck.
>>
>>12000653
I would have the items you need to save be obvious rather than "lmao you put those gloves you already used there too right??? the final action in the game is another electrified lever that instakills you!"
>>
>>12000657
It's def not obvious but you can go into the spaceship on day 2 and try pulling the lev- actually the power isn't running so nothing happens then lol.
>>
>>11998860
Yeah, its really only good for giger art and a few screens here or there. I grew up with this game, never got good.
>>
>>12000260
The time limit basically defines the game, and it's not that hard to figure the game out, I've seen quite a lot of people go in blind and eventually figure the game out in an hour or two.
>>
>>12000654
That's what makes it funny
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZG3D7I7MaY
>>
>>12000654
The devs of Dark Seed II thought the guy who made the first game was a dumb nerdy edgelord, so they mocked him in the second game. Really weird shit.
>>
>>12000864
Nah both parties have done interviews and there was no bad blood between them. The intent wasn't to make him seem like a pussy but rather to add some levity to the game because the first game was too serious at all times. I would say it just kinda failed.

Regardless I wouldn't call Darkseed 2 a good game and I would unironically say just watch an LP instead of playing it after the first time. The Retsupurae is spectacular in a way because they chose to do this on a super thorough long play that attempts to exhaust every goddamn possibility and you can see that the guys are trying their hardest to fill the time with commentary the best they can
>>
>>12000873
>Nah both parties have done interviews and there was no bad blood between them
Wow, they didn't publicly trash him? No shit, but the subtext is there, obvious.
>The Retsupurae is spectacular
It's horrible. slowbeef fucking tormented Diabeetus with that shit, true goon torture. The MST3K shit of "hehehe bad movie we mock" doesn't work well when a game is that long. Whole thing should've been cut up.
>>
>>12000940
No I mean even Mike Dawson said he's never had any issues with the other devs
>>
There were other self inserts and nerdy references in Dark Seed 1, pc game dev wasn't very serious back then
>>
Play it and find out
>>
>>12002786
Dark seed 2 is an absolute slog to play through, there's a reason why just about every play through is long as shit, and it's not even the entertaining long, unless you have someone funny to comment on things.
