It was an ataxx/infection/hexxagon clone for DOS. EGA graphics. The pieces were some kind of three-legged octopus alien things that were constantly twitching - no animation though, just the sprites displaced by 1 pixel in a random direction from the tile center every frame. The tiles were hexagonal but the boards had a lot of empty spaces and many were asymmetric. There was outer space in the background and the stars were scrolling.

I was convinced the game was called POLYPS, but googling it only returns medical stuff even if 'dos' or 'game' is included in the query. I couldn't find it on mobygames or in The Pressibus inventory of Ataxx and Hexxagon games. At this point I'm not sure if it really existed or I just imagined it.

thanks.

I guess I should have been more sneaky about it, make a "guess a poorly drawn game" thread and put this as the second or third pic or something.

Reminds me of dice wars, but that's definitely not it

Make a new thread by the name of the 'Games you can't remember the name of' or something and post yours as OP. People will bump your thread asking and naming old games and yours has a better shot of being identified since it's at the top.
