How impressive were the "Sonic Adventure" graphics for 1998?
>>11999117Yes.
AFAIK very impressive. Everyone I've heard talk about when Model 3 and NAOMI/DC games were new said they were unbelievably good looking for their time and looked almost realistic. Lots of people who saw 2K for the first time have said they thought it was a real sporting event, the graphics were that good.
Haven't we just had this thread?
>what was like>how [adjective] was>what did people thinkI'd implore you for you to kill yourself and stop this foolishness, except there's a high chance you're a bot so it's an impossible dream.
>>11999175>evangelion if he floigan
You were either there or you weren't, accept that you weren't and shut up
480p console gaming wasn't typical by then, so pretty great.
>>11999117Pretty great. Definitely felt like a step-up. We were familiar with what graphics could look like from games like Star Wars Trilogy in the arcades, and this was like bringing that home.
>>11999175>stop talking about retro video game history on the retro video game board!kys
>>11999808Why do you defend low effort crap? if you're no OP, kill yourself.
>>11999839Because he's a /v/ tourist and he's used to low effort threads. But it's probably OP, if you're observant, you'll see the same screech whenever faced against criticism in these shitty threads.
>>11999808How impressive are these threads to someone who likes them?
>>11999117why do you make this exact same thread every 3 days
My little brother got a Dreamcast for Christmas in '99 along with Sonic Adventure. I was super stoned, and watching Sonic in 3D completely blew my mind, I honestly thought the Dreamcast could render reality. Visually, it felt like what the N64 was supposed to be.
Having a vga adapter was like having hd - Dreamcast was something to behold. A lot of crisp visuals. Def was the arcade at home experience, with so many on par arcade games which to be fair was all we wanted - those kind of graphics at home. PlayStation looked cool, N64 too but Dreamcast came with like a pseudo arcade/pc hybrid they had best of both. And when they promised VMU saves in arcade games it was gonna be a new leap forward. Ultimately DVD was the system pusher for sure. Everyone was ditching VHS and renting DVD was a big deal
>>11999839It's not low-effort, it's a perfectly valid thread topic for this board.
Dreamcast wasn't even out in 1998
>>11999117About average, if not slightly unimpressive.
>>12000140>t. OP
>>11999117When Soul Calibur came out, it was very impressive
You just had to be there.
>>11999117I first saw Dreamcast at a gameshop, they must have imported it at launch. They had VF3 which I tried to convince myself was not that good but I was actually jealous since N64 wasn't even out that long ago. Later saw Tokyo extreme racer in a demo pod, convinced myself that Gran Turismo was about as good. I got a DC later a bit before ps2, sort of expecting ps1 but high rez with filtered textures like what you'd see with some pc games. Just absolutely blown away, the realistic water, the grass, the whale chase and the tornado were unbelievable all at a very smooth frame rate. Also blown away by TrickStyle on the demo disc but later a bit disappointed with Sega Rally. This was a time you could go to garage sale at least every 2nd week would find cool 16 bit stuff so we were eating good back then.I tried convincing others, hey its twice as much but 10x as powerful, now look what people are willing to pay for.I liked ps2 but after that I started thinking more polys and better textures wasn't impressing me much.>>12000130PC mags even admitted Dreamcast was better but it was not a big deal since in 2 years you could spend $1000 upgrading you pc.Arcade really declined at this time, you started seeing more 30 fps games.
I remember playing a demo at a blockbuster, I played that thing for like half an hour before my parents dragged me away. There really was nothing else like it.
