Why was it so beloved?
>>
>>11999204
It was the closest thing PS gamers had to Virtua Fighter.
>>
>>11999204
It mogged Turdua Fighter

Two very common words in English.
>>
>>11999243
Okay fine, what do you like about this game then? Or does any interrogative word trigger you?
>>
>>11999221
Accurate from what I remember but Tekken eventually surpassed it. VF still had comparable hype up until 3 though.
>>
>>11999221
From my (American) perspective VF was never popular. It was a shitty floaty fighter you only played when you had one quarter left or something. I couldn't even tell you a single home release of VF besides Evo on PS2 because that's the only one I ever owned or saw. Tekken however was huge on console.
>>
>>11999204
it has a great multiplayer, it was the most beloved title in Europa. The first three entries + soulblade are top notch.
>>
>>11999275
Yes. I had VF2 because it came free with my Sega Saturn. But no one I knew had it or had any awareness of it. It wasn't until VF4 on PS2 that it really became mainstream.

Because this is and will be the most kino intro to a video game of all time

>KoF was made by the guy responsible for Street Fighter 1
He did, Ryo is a homage to his SF days
>>
>>11999494
That's not Soul Blade.
>>
>>11999563
I also owned this in a phsyical copy

You are correct, this is also kino, but Tekken pips it

Cool roster, intuitive inputs, impactful punches, mma grapples with bone crush sound effects (hot shit at the time), cool music.
>>
3D fighting game. Good controls. Fun had by all.

btw why do people hate 4?
>>
>>11999260
The arcade version of VF3 was one of those Sega machines where they used stupidly expensive hardware that couldn't be replicated at home for many years, so it really looked better than even Tekken Tag despite coming out in 1996. But the cost meant hardly any foreign arcades could justify it.
>>
>>12002252
Bad gameplay even at a casual+ level. I like the tone and presentation but it's shit to play.
>>
>>12003213
Explain why is it shit
>>
>>12003209
>it really looked better than even Tekken Tag
It didn't though. VF3 character models were on par with DoA1 characters on Model 2 but with better modelled faces and moving eyes which was hot shit at the time. The main feature of Model 3 board was advanced filtering, lighting, shading and all the stuff that people associate with late 90s hardware GPUs, but M3 games also ran at good framerate and had good texture resolution which wasn't affordable on 1996 consumer hardware yet. PS2 Tekken Tag blows it out of the water though.
>>
>>11999204
It was like Virtua Fighter but edgier (VF was massive at that time). It also actually put the effort to make the console port worth getting since it had plenty of additional content, specially with the 3rd game.
>>
>>12002252
Weird game engine.

Pre-round movement
All backward movement is completely destroyed, you're supposed to be in each other's faces mashing pokes all round every round. Obviously compounded by pre-round movement.
Total negation of 90% of each character's moveset in favor of range 0 poking
Gross imbalance in characters that is obvious even at the lowest skill levels because of the above which gets much worse the better at the game you get.

What's not actually a big deal:
stage infinites, stage elevation. Some of the stages have tremendously obnoxious features like the tiny hay bale stage but it wasn't a dealbreaker and would have been changed with revisions. Obviously the game had few characters too but they'd have made expansion style content like Dark Resurrection or even TTT2 (as in built from 4 instead of 6) if T4 hadn't been a disaster.

And it does suck that they knee-jerked to just making Tekken 3 again and again because Tekken 4 scared them so badly. Lots of elements were great.

>>12002252
>dude remember those angels and demons and ancient aztec gods?
>they weren't supernatural creatures but biological mutant gene experiments lmao
>>
>>12006148
You're the first retard I see thinking this is what's wrong with T4.
>>
>>12006156
People have mentioned gameplay stuff so I went for the supremely interesting and unique tekken lore stuff
>>
>>12002252
It's the Brawl of Tekken.
>KBD is cool and all but please stop actually moving backwards
