I am now coming to the realization that my autistic whinging over aesthetics and ride placement a few threads ago may have put some new players off from the weekend parks. Anyway come join it's fun.

>>
>>12002150
Okay well I was hoping to not reply with the least helpful post ever, but after digging through my object folder, I don't have that file either, but I can open the map just fine.
I have absolutely no idea how or why I can open it. I obviously was able to join and contribute to last weekend's server, but I can't for the life of me find that file in the folder.
This has happened to me before and someone else was able to post the file in the thread but now I just have a headache. Hopefully someone else has it.

>>
>>12002150
Didn't we have this problem before? Where did that file come from? I hosted the park and I don't even have that file.
>>
>>12002209
I regularly add custom content to weekend parks, but it's almost always the same set of vehicles/paths. There would not have been anything on this park that wasn't already on last week's park, too.
>>
>>12002781
>>12002783
What the fuck
>>12002150
You might have to either wait until tomorrow for when the server is hosted to see if you can join, or reinstall the game, the 4chan kit, and then join the server for to get any missed custom content for good measure. There really isn't any reason you shouldn't be able to join the server, it automatically downloads custom content, like we've said before.
Reinstalling everything worked for me when I was having issues, but I also didn't have a fucking ghost file that nobody else has for some reason.

I am kicking myself for never trying Open RCT 2 all this time. This shit's incredible. Just being able to blow through the piss easy scenarios fast by speeding the game up is something that makes me actually want to play the damn game instead of dreading hours-long waiting odysseys. I can get done in a night what would've killed a weekend back in the days.

Does the area look better with or without the railing? I'm genuinely torn.
I like that the rail make the area look more like a "ride area" than just a natural swampy lagoon, but I also like how it makes it look like the boats are floating with no guidance.

Without the railings. Though the railings might look better if they were smaller, like if you use single-rail coaster track instead.

You should keep that plugin because it works really well when you have access to ATMs.
With RCT1 scenarios yeah it's going to not be good.
>>
>>12009651
In RCT2 scenarios install ATMs. If ATMs aren't available remove food/drink stalls or restrooms so guests leave sooner. Not having food/drink/restrooms can affect your park rating and the game will nag you with messages but as long as you can maintain a high park rating the game will just spawn more guests to replenish the ones that leave. You can also use advertising campaigns to force the game to spawn more guests

At that point, it's about as good as the RCT Classic that tablets got, with the extra feature of playing docked with a controller. There are some anons who say that the Xbox version of RCT1 has some charm, so who knows? Maybe that means the Switch version would be good, too.

Should we continue Idylwild Heights this weekend?

>>12019929
It sounds kind of miserable, except for the roller coaster building part, which seems even better to be honest (I saw a guy playing on YouTube and he kind of "guides" the tracks with the dpad, it's pretty cool actually). And there are no touch controls, for some reason.
But I'd like to hear from someone who's played it to get a better idea. I use my Switch sporadically to play in short bursts, and I think it would be really cool to have Rollercoaster Tycoon there to build things little by little.

I ended up buying the official Switch version of the game, and I'm enjoying it. The controls aren't terrible, and you can adapt quickly. Obviously, it's not as good or powerful as OpenRCT2, but it's nice to have the game in handheld mode.
Some people complained about performance, but it's just that when you zoom out, the screen scroll becomes "choppy", but the game itself continues to run well. It's just a problem with how the screen scroll works, it's only smooth at the standard distance.
Now I'm going to start learning how to play better because I'm a total noob and my parks are all ugly as hell.
>>
>>12022941
My only issue is how do you even build scenery with a controller/touchscreen? Is there a dedicated button to raise a scenery piece up and down? What about selecting a scenery piece to match its height?
>>
>>12022948
Yes, there are controls for these things. It can be a bit convoluted at times, but it works.

Dpad up and down will raise/lower some things by one unit. If it's scenery elements, you hold the dpad up/down and that puts you in height mode, then you just adjust the height freely with the analog stick. And finally, you can make the chosen scenery element automatically go to the height of nearby things just by pointing at those things and pressing ZL (equivalent to PSX's L2 or XBox's LT).

Of course, if you're going to do very complex things, you'll probably go crazy, but for casual gameplay, it's not that bad.
>>
>>12022964
>Of course, if you're going to do very complex things, you'll probably go crazy
You can't really do too much in vanilla anyway. Not having access to cheats sucks.
Not to say you can't build cool stuff on vanilla, you absolutely can and I've seen them, but on a controller? Fuck.
Looking forward to your park updates.

I will never understand why this game feels so good to play.
I'm creating this park without the slightest consideration for aesthetics or even knowing how to play the game, but I love the result even though it's a total mess. The game is so immersive, Unlike other games of this type, in this one every little space counts, and it's just fun to look at every little thing, the guys sitting on the bench, the props you place here and there, etc.
>>
>>12025629
It looks like you put a decent amount of effort into scenery. Scenery is a huge part of making an aesthetically pleasing park. Even just trees and hedges really help bring a park together. Without the scenery a park feels so soulless.
>>
>>12025636
>Without the scenery a park feels so soulless.
Part of the issue with the 3D games in my opinion. It takes a lot more effort to make scenery look good in 3D so people often don't bother.
>>
>>12025684
It doesn't help that the scenery pool of RCT3 is much smaller than RCT2, and even smaller if you're accustomed to using loads of user-made custom scenery packs. That's what always bugged me as a kid. I had all of these cool walls and gardens to place in RCT2, and then RCT3 has... smooth landscapes. Whoopie.
>>
>>12026513

I'm happy with my park, I'm not going to change it anymore. Now I'm going to move on to the next scenario.
When I had finished it, I thought it would make sense to build an administration area, so I put up a wall and some fake paths that lead to a brick building that serves as headquarters, and two ugly sheds.
>>
>>12029597
I use that because I hate it when I see an empty ride and its overpriced by 10 cents or something stupid. It's overpowered though, you really need a hefty lazy tax otherwise money is never an issue.
>>
>>12029654
Yeah, the game wasn't balanced with the idea that people would autistically micro-manage prices every minute, but that's what the plugin's lazy tax feature is for
>>
>>12029618
cozy coaster
>>
When you make fake paths for scenery purposes, do you just paint the floor or use the game's actual paths? I know you can put up "no entry" signs and guests won't enter, so theoretically you can use the paths to create streets or things like that.
>>
>>12029801
Place a fence down between the normal guest path and the path you don't want guests walking on and delete the fence. The path will be disconnected and guests won't walk there but still look connected if you don't look too hard at it.

You just need to handle the gameplay progression in a smart manner. Starting with humble rides is the key. You don't need to go overboard with the efficiency with micro coasters. Just keep a compact layout in the beginning, with as many gentle rides/thrill rides as you have researched, and your first coasters should always be small. As you begin to research new rides, you can branch out a bit, and then you can begin to expand the size of your coasters. Water rides tend to print money (except boat hires which are basically just gentle rides).

Eliminating costs early on also helps. Only hire the bare minimum of staff at the start, don't build food stalls until your guests are hungry, and remember the umbrella trick. Guests will pay ANY price for an umbrella when it rains.
