Yeah GTA3 was pretty horrific too, I was genuinely scared to go to some places in the game like that creepy ass tunnel with the molotov hobos.
>>
No
>>
Shadow Moses is certainly horror-lite as a setting, it is definitely going for a spooky atmosphere in more places than one.
>>
>>12001121
about as much as OoT
it has horror elements, but isn't really a horror game.
>>
I love the constant and heavy reverb that perfectly mixes the music, sound effects, and voice lines together. It's really retarded that Twin Snakes completely deleted that aspect of the original's atmosphere and sound design which made it so instantly iconic.

But I do find Psycho Mantis' music and the part where you only see through Meryl's eyes if you press Triangle spooky. The music that plays after Mantis is dead is also kinda dreary and scary, and the wolf cave afterwards can give you a legit jumpscare if they either jump over the rocks or crawl under them right into your face.
>>
>>12001182
Yeah the reverb does so much for the atmosphere in the game, all the sounds bouncing around on thick cement walls and metallic surfaces, It makes everything feel big, which enhances that isolated feeling.

Mechanical darwinism meets style over substance. And I'm tired of pretending it's not.

the game is actually stupidly fun
>>
>>12001121
I think it's about as close to one an action-adventure game can get without having explicit horror elements. the second raven boss definitely tips the scales even farther, it's one of the most iconic horror bosses ever in a a nominal action game.
>>
Stealth game with horror elements
>>
>>12001562
Most MGS games have explicit horror elements.
Those just aren't the main focus.
>>
>>12001212
The music too is severely underrated in that regard. All the beeps, knocks, clicks, squeaks, and bangs in the tracks have the same heavy reverb off cement and metal that almost makes the tracks some like part of the ambient soundscape.
>>
>>12001562
The Hind D is also a pretty horror esque boss fight, I mean the entire Communications Tower part is very spooky, there's the elevator part of course but also just how quiet it is before that.

For sure man, it's a very cavernous sound that perfectly compliments the setting I hadn't really thought about it in that way before but you're right, it really is part of the world, the way it just sounds like everything else does in Shadow Moses. Like you hear those reverberated drums and bleeps on Intruder 2 as you're running around with your footsteps reverberating on the ground and it comes together in a way where you accept the music as this diegetic part of the world almost, I mean it literally is in some instances like when Meryl points out how the music stops playing in the Mantis area.

like at the very beginning it sounds like water droplets falling into a puddle echoing down the concrete hallways

the nuclear warhead storage track is great too, with the sounds of ventilation and distant metallic noises and with the (idk how to describe) shoe-squeak sounds like if someone with boots turned in place in his patrol or scrapped his boot on the ground slightly.

Yeah that is an amazing piece of ambiance, I think they use that exact sound as ambient soundscape in Otacon's office. More proof that the soundtrack is an actual part of the soundscape.

Mario is a horror game

thief is a horror game
hitman contracts is a horror game
>>
>>12001831
and unlike mgs, those two are also real stealth games
>>
look at this beautiful game
>>
>>12001121
It has horror aspects, though at its core it's a military psychological sci Fi thriller.
>>
>>12001834
Hitman contracts is on another level though. As much as I love mgs2/3, I can't deny how fucking good contracts is.
