When I was a kid, me and my siblings thought the control schemes that used two controllers were meant to be a sort of co-op feature. We each took a controller and tried to play the game that way. What weird misunderstandings did you have about games as a kid?
i thought holding a string of bananas makes you faster in mk64 and fuck it i still do
I thought it was okay if my brother pawned my N64 just to afford weed. He always recovered it, so I didn't mind; I coped with my GBC.
>>12003060I had the same exact scenario but it ended with my parents selling his car and him going to jail for pulling a knife on our mom. Pokemon Crystal was really good though.
>>12002507What the heck was the point of this?
>>12003036It zooms out the camera, doesn't it? If so it would look faster even if it isn't.
The Super Mario World manual says that if Yoshi swallows a shell that he "no longer can do the amazing things he can he holds them in his mouth", and I thought they meant that Yoshi permanently wouldn't be able to ever do those things again so I always made sure to spit out the shells before it was too late.
>>12004369To have a dual analog setup like modern games
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer had a mode like this to try and replicate controlling each engine like you would in the pod racer itself.
I briefly thought you had to "shut down" the gameboy like Windows, because the options menu in Pokemon has an "exit" option. I would always hit that before I turned the console off.I used to think all kinds of things were cheating for some reason. Using lock on in games felt like cheating, so I would always free aim. Using machine guns felt like cheating compared to shotguns, which were honourable. Using the first aid spray in Resident Evil felt like cheating.I was kind of retarded.
>>12004564It'd probably be real hard to find one in the wild nowadays, but the Episode 1 Racer arcade game had dual-throttles and worked just like that.
>>12002507In dragon warrior there is an NPC that says something along the lines of, if you cross a bridge, enemies get stronger. This just means new, stronger enemies start appearing, but as a kid I thought every time you passed a bridge the enemies would get some sort of stat boost and be more difficult so I tried to never cross a bridge until I was ready. Also for some reason I thought the game marble madness for NES you actually had to buy a physical marble for and insert it somehow into the game cartridge to work. I tried to argue this point to my mom when I was trying to get her to buy it for me, and I remember she gave me a look like I was retarded.
wonder why no enterprising game studio back in the day made a nes controller that plugged into both ports and gave you 8 additional buttons then made some insane game that used them all
>>12004958Why do you assume they didn't?
>>12004647You were actually incredibly based and more intelligent than you are now.
>>12002507>reach the part with the password in the sunken ship in Super Mario RPG>can't read English but read in a magazine that the password is "PEARLS">think it's "PEARILS" because of the font>spend years stuck at this part because there's no "I" to put into the password>doesn't help that That Kid at school said that you have to jump on top of the ship (?) to find the "I"
>>12004647>Using the first aid spray in Resident Evil felt like cheating.RE games after 1 reduce your rank if you use first aid sprays
>>12004958It would be handy to romhack something like Zelda or Megaman, so you could equip more weapons at once. I wonder how doable that is.
>>12006254Yeah, but I didn't even care about rank. I just internalised the idea that you aren't supposed to use first aid spray.
>>12004689She was right
>>12006254That's dumb. How is it any different from using green herbs?
>>12004958Why stop there? They have those 4 controller port add-ons, you could have a 32 button NES controller. Maybe more.
>>12002507I thought Gamesharks were these magical tools that allowed you to mod your games, instead of just altering small memory values. My mother wouldn't let me get one and I'm still sour about it over 20 years later. >>12003060And people say weed "isn't addictive"...
>>12002507There was no misunderstanding, but I played through They Hunger with a friend that way. He sucked at movement (didn't have a decent PC so no games) so I let him do the point and click shooting while I hopped around with the keyboard. He was big into horror movies/books so they hunger was up his alley
>>12009253>and I'm still sour about it over 20 years later. That's retarded. Stop it.
>>12009292How about you stop policing the insignificant little things people hold decades-old grudges over. This is the retro gaming board, aka the nostalgia board. Childhood memories are going to be brought up.
