Who else likes House of the dead 1 better than 2?Many hail HotD2 as the superior one but I honestly dont like the setting that much.Goldman building is probably the only part I liked. The original HotD just feels a much creeper game and I think its the only scary HotD.The zombies also looks the most unnerving. Like the axe dude of 1 scared me as a kid but 2's looks like some dude on meth.Such a shame Sega lost the fucking source code so the 3 games arent available on Wii.
Also the Mansion is creepy as hell and very claustrophobic. In a way this reminds me I feel similar with Resident Evil 1 vs 2 where I prefer how scary 1 is due to the mansion and zombies being creeper than in 2.
Do the arcade and PC versions have the same shit lightgun aiming as the Saturn version?
>>12002593I prefer the original House of the Dead to 2. The atmosphere has more of a gothic feel to it, as a kid the attract mode felt foreboding with the call to the answering machine, & the shitty MSPaint scribbles chapter titles just perfectly added to it.
>>12002593>Who else likes House of the dead 1 better than 2?I certainly do.I spent countless coins just to beat the Arcade original once, back in the day.
>it's a House of the Dead schizo threadIt's called The House of the Dead.
>>12004648I have never seen a HotD thread here.
>>12005098The game is called THE House of the Dead.
>>12002593I know lightgunfags are going to be offended by this question but:What's the best way to play HotD1 on PC with a mouse?
The games would be way 'scarier' with actual horror music but they wanted a more high energy soundtrack.
>>12005164>>12004648No, it clearly says The The House of Dead
the house of dead on sega's dreamcast
>>12005178Basically. As mentioned the source code was lost so you can only play via cabinet, low res Saturn port, PC version of that Saturn port and emulating the arcade version.>>12005228Only has 2 doesnt it?
>>12005178Not the Saturn version that's for sure >>12002814 but I haven't tried the other versions, maybe they're all just as badalso I have an Aimtrack lightgun to use for PC and it uses mouse movement to function so "HotD with a mouse" can actually be the same thing as "HotD with a lightgun"
I like how the setting of the second game takes place in a sort of post-apocalyptic zombie Venice As I've never played any of these games with a lightgun, I'd say the best way to play them nowadays would be to play Typing of the Dead
>>120055812 and 3 are on the Wii and they are very close to a light gun exp.Kinda hard though.Havent made it to Goldman's building yet.
>>12005223It was supposed be the much cooler sounding Die Die House of Dead, but some overly zealous localiser thought it was some errant German that needed translating and fucked it up.
>>12002593Yeah, saw it for the first time in a service station coming back from holiday, being utterly transfixed by the attract screen. Blew my 10 year old mind, seeing scientists being chased down by eerie looking monsters, couldn't look away. Then getting bawled out by my Dad because he thought I was staring at the lad's mags in the WH Smith next door.
Quick and dirty light gun experience for anons with a home computer:>Take game and emulator of choosing>Add emulator to steam as a non steam game>Take controller with gyro (Dual shock 4, Switch Pro, Steam Controller)>Bind gyro to mouse, shoot to one of the triggers>If mouse for light gun or a reload button needs to be set up in the emulator, do so>Congratulations, you can now play classic light gun games with motion controlsThe Wii also has light gun games (Some not /vr/ but some are rereleased) and the WiiU took all (many? Not sure) of the NES light gun games and added wiimote support and I imagine those can be back ported to Wii as well.
>>12005164fuck off you pedantic faggot
House of the Dead bros...Our response?
>>12005178M2 Emulator - stick it into google. I can catbox the rom if you want. Works like a charm as long as you go into the setup mode and set up the mouse and change blood to red.
>>12005178>>12005537>>12006043https://files.catbox.moe/3toohy.zipI just threw this up there so no ieda if it'll work but worth a try. Fucking love THotD
>>12002593Agreed. The setting in the first one is superior, its more dark and menacing. Sunny happy locations with zombies work, but you dont get that spooky feel. See also L4D 1 vs 2
I got this for cheap, thoughts? :)
>>12006065It's a pretty 1:1 remake is presentation and for some reason it's absolutely terrible. I can't work out why as I don't have the ighest standards but it's literally soulless. If it's cheap get it just to see after you play the original:>>12006050It's a fascinating lesson on what NOT to do.
>>12006050Cool thanks.>>12006065It has the same beats but just doesn't feel the same. Too pitch black and I feel no art direction at all was taken so it can look kinda cheap.
>>12002593I compare this and THOTD2 to RE1/2, I think the sequel improves everything but I'll always have a special fondness for the original. I convinced my dad to buy a Saturn just so we could play at home.
>>12006065I still have no idea why people would play a lightgun game with any control scheme other than lightguns.
>>12006084You're welcome! Hope it just works out of the (cat)box>>12006096Honestly, blasting through with a mouse is comfy as fuck
>>12006096It might come as a shock to you anon, but most gamers don't have a lightgun lying around
I played 1 the other day and I'm going to play 2 for the first time right now.
Why the fuck didn’t the original Xbox hotd2/3 collection include hotd 1????? I’m watching footage of it and it looks really good. looks better than hotd2 but it’s been years since I’ve played any of them
>>12006302No collection did because source code/legal rights/laziness was a big thing back then. Stop being a little sperg. Have you even got a lightgun?
>>12006098>>12006101>2025>not owning a The House of the Dead arcade cabYikes
>>12006361The Xbox version was intended to be used with the Xbox light gun I apologize but now that you have initiated an argument on the internet I am required and obligated to ask you to suck my dick. Nothing personal of course.
>>12006098>blasting through with a mouse is comfy as fuckWorking on customer support destroyed my index finger so its not comfy for me.Thats why I'm mad that HotD1 isnt on the Wii.Losing the source code seems very common with the japanese. So little care to preserve their games.
I imagine making light gun games would be pretty simple compared to most other genres. What are the chances we will see a resurgence of the genre in some form on pc or consoles? You surely don’t need more than 5-10 guys to make these right? Pick a cool theme/motif, have branching paths to replay the game a few times. Give it someUnlockables and make it 45 min of an hour long. Seems like an easy way to make a sale for like 20.00 then just sell the game.
>>12006265They are very replayable.Games ha different paths based on who you kill, who you save, where yoh shoot.Give them a few replays.
>>12006407I am ashamed>>12006415Absolutely no problem, squire. Now go play the first one as a matter of principle.>>12006452Aren't Wiimotes able to be used as mouse pointers now? They'd be shit compared to a real light gun but better than nothing.
>>12002593>Who else likes House of the dead 1 better than 2?Me. First time fighting Chariot and Magician were the coolest and most intense moments in the series.
>>12008164>Aren't Wiimotes able to be used as mouse pointers now?First I hear of it. Gotta do some digging.
