So your virtual boy has a fucked up display because the glue came loose on the shitty video ribbons. Can someone explain why anyone would buy these "virtual ribbon" adapter board kits to fix it? Why not just buy a brand new ribbon and solder directly to pads? Wouldn't that be much faster and cheaper with zero downsides?
why don't you go ask your gay boyfriend
>>12003908People used to be desperate enough to warm these in ovens, these seem safer than trying to solder this, I've heard of them for a long time but just haven't brought them.https://segasonicfan.wixsite.com/retro/virtual-ribbon
>>12004034Check this out thoughhttps://cardosicustoms.com/store/p/virtual-boy-eyepatchPic isn't my work, but it looks like a 5 minute job to just solder a new ribbon on. I'm wondering why anyone would choose the virtual ribbon over a solution like this. There seem to be a few people making these brand new ribbons for cheap
Wouldn't you have to play this thing to discover that a ribbon cable was going bad? It's fucking painful.Of all the retro systems out there the VB is the one that belongs on a shelf behind some streamer gathering dust.
>>12004386I'll have to see for myself. I figure if it's not fun for me I can just resell it to someone who can't solder. I got it a while ago, cheap from japan with the stand and everything.
>>12004471Well I would certainly advise fixing it with one of these easier fixes, why not? If you've never used this thing be prepared for the brightest, reddest most painful ocular stimulation of your life. I will say the tennis game is great.
>>12004386The only people who say this, have weak genes and the Virtual Boy found them unworthy. Just as Gunpei intended.
>>12004505You need sunglasses to play the fucking thing lol.
>>12003908>Why not just buy a brand new ribbon and solder directly to padshave you seen the size of the contacts? 99.999% of people do not have the soldering skills or equipment to do that, fuck, most people would fuck up replacing a capacitor
