I felt myself losing interest in modern games more and more since last gen, and it recently hit me that I've only bought one new game in the last year. Everything newer feels like soul-less slop to me, and I've had way more fun playing classics both alone & with friends. So, I'd like to go try out gems I might've missed. Any recommendations for PS1-3 and GBC-GBA in particular are welcome. Cheers, bros.
Tears of the kinddom was such a disappointment and yet receive such critical acclaim...I can't respect modern video games anymore, haven't played any modern game since then
>>12004148OP here- funny you should mention that one. TOTK was actually one where it REALLY started to hit. My wife picked it up after enjoying BOTW, and once it got into the constant building shit we were both like "...Shouldn't this be fun?"
The reason you can't use the wiki to get you're reccyroos?

OP get the Maximo games and Downhill Domination and Contra Shattered Soldier for your PS2.>>12004185>Starfighter Sanvein (PS1)Hell yeah
>>12004138I was in the same boat fren. Wanted to game, but never had the will to. Would start a new game, play 2-3 hours and drop it. I'd stand around and wait 10-20 minutes to start up a game because of an update or whatever else. Games would be glitchy fucked up messes that would lose me instantly.Haven't bought a modern game since last year, took the retro pill at the beginning of the year and never looked back. Been playing a lot of SNES, Mega Drive and GameCube lately. Must have finished more games this year than in the past 4-5

>>12004138I think the smart thing is to be 5-10 years behind the current thing. Buy the hardware when it's cheapest, and buy the software, or don't because everything's cracked by then.
>>12004271It’s a lot of fun to play new games along with other people online and discuss them in real time, though. Especially if the game is good enough that threads last for a while. I’m starting to think a big reason why people become disillusioned with gaming as they get older is because the social aspect of it that they had when they were younger is lost on them. No longer having magazines to hype up releases or people to discuss games with all the time can definitely contribute to a sudden feeling of “hollowness” when it comes to vidya.Point is, being able to enjoy *both* is definitely possible. Strictly limiting yourself to one or the other doesn’t make much sense to me.
>>12004286I'd pretty much agree, being 40 myself. I lost interest in multi-player games 10 years ago.
>>12004297Play on Insignia with the other 40 year old guys its fun
>>12004271more like 20, a ps4 is just shittier version of a ps5
>>12004717You don't necessarily want to wait that long.
>>12004138Too many good games on GBA to list them all, but if you like JRPGs, you should give a try to Oriental Blue as it got an English patch some years ago.
I opted out of modern gaming in 2014 but I barely enjoyed anything released after 2010, not sure how it took you this long to notice modern games are utter garbage
>>12004967New Armored Core and Ace Combat are good. Made me realize of what we lost when western gaming stopped focusing on nerdy fun and went full cinematic and/or live service slop.
>>12004138>I'm going retro-only.based my absolue cut off is 2017 but I;ve only been playing stuff from the 80s for months mainly level 8 text advetures and flying shark and lightforce, Modern post covid gaming is remakes of stuff I alreaday prefer in the original and endless CGI videos
>>12004991>ive service slop.yeah i never gave much of a fuck about online muktiply er crap and has resulted in junk timesgare billing and crappy online casinos as games
>>12004849>sold
>>12004138I was going to buy an $800 video card but kept thinking how much of a waste it would be if I get the same amount out of stuff like Sega Saturn, I feel it would reduce my enjoyment of retro games. I'm mainly interested in VR and sort of physics toys for modern games, the main thing retro can't really do. I probably play 5 modern games a year now that I haven't played before. Missed Salamander 3 and Shinobi physical, how was I to know they would be super limited. I do spend many hours in a level editor in a couple of modern games.
