Gameplay bugs were recorded via VHS tapes. That's a VHS recorder underneath the consumer CRT used for play-testing the game. FFXI was originally developed for PS2 back in 2002 and then ported to PC later on.
>Gameplay bugs were recorded via VHS tapesReminds me of that leaked Majora's Mask debugging tape where the tester used walk-though-walls so he could check out the treasure chest girl's ass (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyCyy5qQ9OI&t=65s ).
>>12004224Correction. It's an S-VHS recorder.
>>12004224>VHS recorder
>>12004224A Pentium 3 Dell?
I like FF11 but I also kinda hate it. I'm jealous of people who made actual long-time friends and who met their wives and such. I have played the game, and seen how good the music is. I still think MMOs suck ass, but there's something kinda profoundly melancholic about the FF11 soundtrack. I almost feel nostalgia for it even though I played it in like 2018 or somethingBut at the end of the day my opinion is still that MMOs suck and you're a chump for paying to have a second job basically.
>>12004381On second look I don't think it's a Dell. It does look like the case is inspired from early Dell XPS computers. However, what's with the dual VCR's?
>>12004382I played it in 2001 for a month and it sucked ass. Boring game. Cool designs and music though.
>>12004348i would've done the same
>>12004394Probably checking composite output on that consumer TV there?
>>12004382I wish they made it like PSO/Universe with an offline mode. Could have been a cool return to the series roots where you pick classes and form a party of adventurers. It's also always tickled my autism in a bad way that they used up a numbered entry for what should have just been called Final Fantasy Online.
>>12004224cool setup, workstations were soulful before people cared about ergonomics.
>>12004224So are there just boxes of VHS tapes for Japanese video game development?
>>12004224XI was fun as helland you cannot overstate how game changing it was at the time
>>12004531That's for QA, QA testers recorded their footage on VHS and it got sent to devs for inspection. This was before you had gigantic ass digital storage solutions.
>>12004224holy fucking comfy
