GOG is now supplying GMDX as a simple installer. What am I in for? I haven't played this game in decades.
Idk ask grok you insufferable faggot
>>12004851Just visit the GMDX page, it lists all the changes.
I wish GOG would stop fucking around with games by applying fan patches and the like they ship VtMB with a fan patch that messes with some things for no reason, like NPCs constantly repeating the 'buy a watch' line and some other shit I forgot
>>12004864Mutilated Old Games will never stop, they are an evil company who hates old games.
>>12004851>GMDXNo. I refuse.
>>12004864Yeah, as far as I understand the VtMB version sold there is basically fanfiction.
>gmdx turns off the music in the paris catacombsmodders are such fucking retards.
Deus Ex Community Update is literally a single .u file:https://www.nexusmods.com/deusex/mods/66>+ Going out the window even when Paul has been saved makes Paul dead [Fixed]>+ Ford Schick doesn't show up in later missions after you've rescued him [Fixed]These two are my favorite fixes and should've been fixed in official patches tbqh.Fuck GOG for pushing total overhaul mods in their releases and on the store pages. It's basically telling people the "good old game" sucks unless it is updated with fan overhauls...
>played through a great big chunk of DX >progressing well in china already >hdd craps out, replace>would have to restart the whole gameEh... Maybe next year.
>>12005006the original is still available and you need to own it as a prerequisite
I had no idea Gog was providing fan patches, too. I'm not sure how that even works as far as authors' permission and crediting is concerned
>>12004995>modders are such fucking retards.Agreed
you wanna see a shitshow of GOG doing something absolutely retarded with fan projects? go look at their release of daggerfall unity. not only is it like 5 or 6 or so yrs out of date in terms of the version of the game AND of unity itself, but all the mods it has are even more out-of-date, cause HUGE performance issues/CTDs, and it comes with some ugly "lookin good" tier upscaled gfx overhaul on by default. also, any new mods ie: most of them wont work at all since its a much older version of unity.the games freeware btw. you can just go DL it, and unity, and be playing a much better and more stable version of it in like 2mins. with mods.i have zero clue why they wouldnt just take it down at this point. its basically just a reoccurring n00btrap, since the GOG page tends to come up before the github page when you search for DFU
>>12006906>since the GOG page tends to come up before the github page when you search for DFUno it doesn't
>>12006906>tends to come up before the github page when you search for DFU>>12007010>no it doesn'tAnons discovering the wonders of the google bubble
>>12004864The patch by that german guy for VTMB is full of arbitrary changes like that. I also noticed that the NPCs become mindless drones who spout the same lines constantly, that doesn't happen if you play without patch. Also, I remember at the spooky hotel he changed the delay time of the ghost apparition when you first enter the hotel, he made it longer so you just see the ghost stand there still for a few seconds for no reason, when in the original the ghost disappears as soon as you enter to make you go ''wtf was that?'' and his rationale for changing it was that many people were missing seeing the ghost because it was so quick in disappearing (yeah that was the intended effect, duh)...This is not the ''plus'' patch version btw, this is just the basic patch of his patch, it still changes tons of stuff for the worse for no reason or for stupid reasons
>>12004851But Deus Ex is almost perfectly playable in it's original state bar a couple of things that the Game of the Year Edition fucked up?
>>12007010it used to. for many years too.now everyone that knows about DFU, thankfully knows the GOG ver is borked. but it took literal years of everyone posting REEEE Y MY MODS NO WORK? on every modpage ever lol. prior to everyone figuring that out, so many newbies were downloading what amounted to an out-of-date, literally broken modpack, built on top of an unfinished port of daggerfall, on an old version of unity that crashed a lot. and the funny part is they all thought>lol bugthesda hahaand figured it was just "normal". nah. DOSggerfall crashed, but it wasnt THAT bad.at any rate, its the biggest GOG fuckup ive ever seen in regards to these "fan patch" kinda releases. it was really something else. how do you fuck up giving something away for free that hard?
>>12007124the mod modernizes the game if you have a good PC
>>12007105Does it still delay the headless body model in the intro by like a second which makes everyone die laughing the first time they see it?I don't want to argue about purity, if a modder makes shit better in a way 4 out of 5 people agree on I won't complain, but because modders are usually weirdo autists and trannies they often have completely terrible judgement and taste and fuck things up a child should know not to do.
>>12007310>modernizesThis can mean a lot of things, and some of these things can be bad
>>12006906Someone else put that up, not gog themselves.
>>12007664>not gog themselveshttps://www.gog.com/en/game/vampire_the_masquerade_bloodlinesUP is the Unofficial Patch. It's part of the GOG version by default
>>12004864This is why Steam will always be the number-one platform. GOG butchers games. Valve respects games. Simple as. They respect gamers too, which is why they've put so much work into making Linux gaming as seamless as possible.
>>12007702For some games the patches are appreciated (stuff that just make games run better on modern systems) but the shit that changes the games go too far
>>12007781GOG isn't a sustainable business model anyway so it won't be an issue for too much longer
>>12007702Steam also does this but randomly. Arcanum steam has fan fixes applied.
>>12007816It's not Steam or Valve. They don't publish someone else's games. Publishers do.
>>12007803GOG has been around for about 20 years though?
>>12007840TWO MORE WEEKS AND GOG WILL COLLAPSETWO MORE WEEKS
>>12007856Then games will no longer be butchered by them
>>12007702>This is why Steam will always be the number-one platform.Number 1 platform is NO PLATFORM.You just download an installer and that's it. No more online faggotry is necessary.
>>12004864>mfw I installed that version because I thought it might be better than the originalSo playing the vanilla game is the way to do it?
>>12008601There's the ''Standard Mod Patch'' that only aims to fix game breaking bugs but doesn't touch anything else in the game: https://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/197?tab=descriptionI tried it last year and it doesn't even fix the typos you can see here and there; so I guess that's the closest thing you can get to the vanilla game but just with the major bugs taken care of (supposedly, I didn't finish my play-through with it but I got as far as Chinatown and I don't remember getting crashes)
>>12004864>>12004851some fanpatches that actually fix bugs are needed, but GOG didn't supply them. you have to look them up in the forums or somewhere else. e.g. STALKER games until more recently, i think.i think their piorities are fucked.>>12007702steam don't even have mods most of the time, DRM shill. for years, they didn't even have DOSBox and just sold the original files with no tech support.
>>12006906>and unity, there's your problem, faggits. Unity was never stable or fast.
>>12005006iAgree
>>12008778>for years, they didn't even have DOSBox and just sold the original files with no tech support. Yep, early on in Steam's existence, several DOS games straight-up didn't work, because they were sold as is. Amusingly, for several years, compatibility-fixed retro titles on Steam used screenshots from the GOG versions (one of the chars was named GOGGAMES or similar).
>>12008810>GOG steals the free work of modders to make money>Steam steals their versions and their store photos to make more money>original devs and modders make $0lmao
>>12007803t. retard that knows nothing about business
>>12008778>just sold the original files with no tech supportThey still do that with Max Payne 1.
>>12008778>muh DRMRemove the tinfoil hat, there's literally nothing wrong with it.
>>12007836Many people don't seem to understand that in this thread, seems like we're surrounded by retards.
