>>12005049speaking in such absolutes is pretty retarded due to the sheer variety in variables and metrics to measure. as such, i think that "best" would have to be a pretty simple sort of game in order to remove a lot of the variables. i think the game that perfectly checks the most boxes with the fewest "flaws/drawbacks" is tetris. skill based, easy to play/access, easy to understand, high general public appeal, high fun and desire to play more, to name a few. regardless of the technological advancements made since then, it still retains its success in those objectives (for the most part. thats where some of the variables come in). however, i couldnt say which version of tetris in particular ought to be considered the best one. when you have more complicated games, the flaws and shortcomings of them become more readily apparent. this is why anyone saying something like oot being the best is a drooling retard. graphical shortcomings, enemy ai shortcomings, objectives shortcomings, etc. so many aspects of it are so clearly surpassed by other games. what aspects of tetris are there that can truly be surpassed by something else? not much. thats why its simplicity makes it so elegant and refined, while the more complex and versatile a game is, and especially the more its supposed to emulate/represent an aspect of life, the more vulnerable it is to failing to stand as the best of ANYTHING.feel free to like or dislike things, but claims like "best/worst ever made" are fucking stupid.
