Is it really that bad?
Quite possibly the greatest game of all time.
before Fightcade there was a different GGPO emulator/matchmaker frontend made by a guy known for being competitive in this game and people joked that he created the whole app just to play it with more people

The arcade original is an original game, but perhaps because of complaints about the quality of the arcade original, they took Super Turbo and reskinned it for the home port. By 1995 Super Turbo's mechanics were quite dated.

It has a high novelty factor just because of what it is. It's a goddamn video game adaptation of a movie adaptation of a video game and it looks like Mortal Kombat. The arcade has a lot of weird shit gameplay wise, most characters have some new move or property that doesn't make any sense. Sagat has some sort of psychic wave that paralyzes you, Cammy has a command throw with a whip, Balrog can reflect projectiles, the players can counter each other's throws repeatedly until the announcer screams SLAMMASTER!. It's worth playing just to experience how crazy it is.The console ports were reworked from the ground up to not have any of this crazy shit and just play like ST, which makes them technically "better" but at the same time renders them kind of pointless because you might as well just play ST instead.
