Pokemon Red/Blue is one of the most soulful games ever made.

mmm, alright den
>>
Utterly true
>>
Ironically, trying to catch them all is a horribly unfun way to play the game. Much better to be casual and only catch about a dozen tops.
>>
>>12006661
Catching em all is a post-game thing. You can't even get to Mewtwo without beating the game first.
>>
>>12006661
no rare candy bs either
>>
>>12006525
It's a great hero's journey/underdog story on it's own. Kicking Blue's ass in the final battle still sticks with me.

The true direct sequel to Red/Blue.
Now if only the map was a bit bigger.
>>
What's the best way to emulate them? Also how do you get mew with out OG link?

Hes under the truck dude.

Looks horrible. Super GameBoy is how these games should be played.
>>
>>12009408
I like both.
>>
>>12007635
>Also how do you get mew
google mew glitch you can get him when you get to cerulean from a fresh save.
>>
>>12006525
It really is. It's legitimately at or near the peak of the JRPG genre, despite story-game-fags looking down on this sort of thing. The core gameplay, collection and raising aspects, and atmosphere beat out most other classics.
>>
>>12007635
you have to save a battle on the way to bills house and wait till you can fly to lavender town.
>>
>>12006525
Yeah, it’s up there. The music and atmosphere are great coupled with the weird mysteriousness of the lore and artwork of the Pokémon. Rby isn’t fleshed out lore wise like what happened with gen3 onward. You get inferences of a nuclear war, mutated creatures, bleakness. It’s actually quite dark.
>>
>>12006525
Gen 2 was even more soulful however. I think it's the music, the improved but still fairly simple sprite work and the fact that the setting was more 'traditional' than in gen 1.

It's a very nice vibe even if there are some obvious gameplay issues.
>>
>>12006692
If you don’t dupe nuggets, rare candys, pp up, iron, carbos, etc… you’re not taking full advantage of the glorious mess that is gen 1. Ohh only 5 pp for fireblast, not anymore!

Surge's vague 'saved my back in the war' dialogue really putting in a lot of work for your theories, huh?
>>

Damn, you really got mad
>>
>>12010239
Made you drop your schtick. Tough break.
>>

What? Are you having a schizo moment or something?
>>
>>12010270
And it keeps posting like the lowcomm troll it is. Kudos, here’s your (((you)))
>>
>>12006661
It's the worst part of the game aside from breeding.

you're gay
>>
>>12010230
>gen 1 is a mess!
Playing through the game normally, without existing and esoteric knowledge of the specific steps you can take to break it, the only bug you're likely to encounter is Focus Energy not working. And you wouldn't even notice it without being told.
This retroactive viewpoint is exclusive to people who weren't around when the game was new, and only experienced it through the lens of YouTube videos and glitch compilations (if at all). Anyone who genuinely believes the Gen 1 games are broken can easily be written off as an ill-informed bad actor. 100% of the time.
>>
>>12010807
Everyone I knew, including myself, used the missingno glitch. It was common knowledge by the year 1999. You're a revisionist zoomer dipshit who wasnt alive at the time.
>>
>>12010419
>>12010319
Ohh but I'm supposed to be the mad one? Kek. Like pottery.
>>
>>12010807
This, you have to go out of your way to glitch the game
>>
>>12011054
Which everyone did. It was even mentioned by Nintendo and other magazines, not to mention word of mouth spreading like wildfire. You can't rewrite this, too much evidence proves you're a retarded zoomer revisionist.
>>
>>12011061
But literally everyone who used the Missingno glitch back then agrees that it is a positive 'addition' to the game. Same thing with the more recently found Mew glitch. No one was thinking "man, what a poorly coded game! This sucks!" They were thinking "this is fun."
>>
>>12011061
>>12011054
>>12010807
>>12010230
>>12006692
I knew that as a kid and so did basically all the other kids that played it and I was a kid when this game was out and I was a kid when gold and silver released so yea, this idea that no one knew about missingno until youtube is a lie.
>>
>>12011089
At what point did I say anything about missingno being a bad thing or anything to the effect of coding?
>>12011089
Exactly. It was on gaming shows, in magazines, Nintendo talked about it, every kid knew about it.

I never noticed how small Telefang was until now. Feels comfy.
>>
>>12011049
I think you're just a low IQ schizo personally.
>>
>>12011046
So you were told about the specific steps you can take to break the game, intentionally took those steps, and the game broke.
That sounds a whole lot like what was described in the previous post, you fucking retard.
>>
>>12006661
I never knew anyone who even attempted it. But even if you did, you were supposed to catch more of the same pokemon to trade your dupes with your friends, you're not supposed to catch 'em all yourself.

>>12011145
This. You would glitch out rare candies to get your pokemon to level 100 to fight against your friends who all did the same thing.
>>
>>12010807
in oak's introduction, he pulls out a nidorino and the game plays a nidorina's cry. it's literally impossible to play red/blue without encontering glitches.
>>
>>12011383
>You would glitch out rare candies to get your pokemon to level 100
that wasn't my experience at all
we played the game normally and battled in stadium
>>
>>12011386

the game is ruined...
>>

>>
>>12011445
I think shit like that is charming. The other guy is just a dip
>>
>>12011386
how many people do you imagine would know that without being told?
i've played the game a ton and i sure didn't know
>>
>>12010807
>the only bug you're likely to encounter is Focus Energy not working.
And the 1/256 miss bug
And the badge boost bug
And the trash cans.
And the AI type lookup bug with status moves
And the Cut softlock bug
And the wrong priority for NPC battle items
And the cinnabar coast...

Two of these are things you'd have to try to exploit intentionally, and the others are things you wouldn't know were bugged without being told.
Sorry champ, the game's fine.
>>
>>12011521
just because they're not game-breaking doesn't mean they're not bugs you encounter. they're great games and largely the bugs don't ruin anything, but they're still hugely buggy.

Yes, yes, well done, Gen 1 Pokemon. Well done, very sovlful.. HOWEVER.
>>
>>12011532
>they're still hugely buggy
They're probably no more buggy than any other game. There's just a hyper focus on that aspect because a band of autists are dedicated to documenting all of it.
Nobody playing the games without outside info would think anything was amiss. And most didn't.

>>12011538
Arguably the best gay clown video game of all time

OP asks for sovl so I deliver. If you think a game has to be a huge success in order to qualify then you need re-evaluate your definiton of sovlful.

no shit, zoomer
>>
>>12011759
A quick trip to /vp/ would confirm that zoomers hate Red and Blue and Kanto in general
>>
>>12011774
They are literally just gen 3-5 fans that hate Kanto because it gets more attention than their favorite gens.
>>
>>12011386
okay but what does the nidorino identify as?
>>
>>12011780
I'd like to believe that's true.
>>

you fucking transphobe, they're clearly a beautiful non-bunneary nidorinx
>>
>>12011821
>non-bunneary nidorinx
I'd be shocked if this isn't a thing in the next major pokemon release lol
>>
>>12011789
Why do you think those people are mostly already Pokémon fans instead of normalfags? They are just mad the original 151 get more attention than the trashbag
