Nothing has changed!
Same shit like it was on release!

Played the BFG edition and the only thing they FIXED was the memed to death retarded flashlight/weapon swapping.

The entire game is retarded.
>Walk in a labyrinthine looking base
>Architecture looks like some architectural nightmare
>There is no real objective list only some shit flashed on screen and vanished...
>.... however YOU HAVE a ENTIRE PDA full of e-mails and audio logs and UAC videos you collect and can replay at any moment....
>Entire game
>Walk forward demon/zombie shows up, shoot it until it drops dead
>HOWEVER meanwhile a wall/panel did open or a demon zombie literally teleported behind you (!!!!) and also started shooting/biting you!
And the base is one brown ugly blob with no markers or anything sometimes you walk back only to realize there was a difficult to see ladder or some retarded switch on a screen that looks identical to the nonsense screens all over the place.

The only good part was how they modernized the lore however it is a retarded modern horror SLOP!
>>
>>12008108
That's my take on it. Maybe it gets better later in the game but how many tens of hours do you need to slog through to get to that?
>>
The biggest problem was that it deviated from being fun to being "immersive" and focusing on graphics. DOOM 3 was never good. It never will be. It's an objectively shit game.

>Maybe it gets better later in the game
Not really.
I am playing D3 BFG now and all I got was a bigger level where I did miss the hidden ladder and was trying to jump on pipes to get to the upper floor...
The I watched a lets play to understand how he did it.

It is bad like there is no map and/or RADAR (like in bloodrayn 1) or obvious glowing parts to direct you.

>Oh boy you forgot to look closer at the retarded screen that was not displaying nonsense about drill pressure controls(like all the other ones!) however you needed to press it to progress!

I lost so much time backtracking only to realize that!
OH NO I am stuck!

Cameras and maps and obvious hints are a godsend to gaming.

Who can forget
>many tens of hours do you need to slog through to get to that?
The weapons are all dogshit!

Like the plasma rifle not only sounds like shit it almost has the same power level as the SMG. And the chain gun is dogshit that behaves like some heavy aircraft canon. Almost all the weapons do the same damage with the exception of the grenades.

I'm sorry... After letting the audio logs drone on about some bullshit to get a code for the locker or clicking threw these retarded e-mails for codes.

And the game having generic babbling for the villains and the droning of the AI station voice. I knid of did not feel like checking if every single FUCKEn screen in these god dam ass genetic biurocrat stations is saying something important and not spamming random meaningless text.

>DSP behavior
OH I'm sorry I missed the identically looking ladder in you identically looking base where everything looks the same made out of metal from hell look.

I repeat myself:
>THERE IS A REASON ALL MODERN GAMES GIVE YOU A GLOWING EFFECT AROUND ITEMS TO INTERACT OR HIGHLIGHT THEM ON A MAP OR RADAR!

In doom 3 you do not even have a objective screen or menu! It flashes away while giving you a entire GUI full of e-mails and audio logs and videos!

Imagine defending a shit game so hard.

It's like the middle part of the game is missing and instead they stretched out the first level to last for like 20 levels and it just drags on way too long. They already had some outdoors parts in the game, I don't know why they didn't add some more outdoors stuff. Like maybe made it where you had to traverse larger distances across the Mars surface between a few different isolated buildings instead of just being in basically one building the whole time.

I reckon the first few stages are good, and there's one or two near the end where there's huge amounts of blood and stuff everywhere, those was decent, and the hell stages were ok. But the whole middle like 90% of the game is really boring.

???

It was mocked, yes you get the handful of autists who did like ti however the game is trash.

>and graphically impressive.
NOPE!

The game is literally a TECH DEMO. For a retarded lighting system that was unrealistic and everything looked like it was made from clay who did come out of satans ass!

Actually games made on this engine look WORSE then games made on the Quake 2 and Quake 3 engines!

>It's like the middle part of the game is missing
I wish the fact that ninja zombies who slide away panels to then hit you from the behind was missing from this game.

Also marines (? or are they possessed?) who magically teleport themselves into the corridor you did clear out with no way for them to come out of anything and shoot you in the back.

Yea remove that.

And remove the claustrophobic corridors where you can do nothing...

The game is one big disaster because Carmac was autistic about making a lighting engine on 2004 hardware so we got this shit!

> so I'll share with you the DOOM3 experience in its entirety for the gamer on a budget: Simply pay an annoying sibling or co-worker $20 to have him throw a burlap sack over your head and beat you without mercy from varying angles with a phone book so you can't see where he's coming from. The important part is the burlap sack, really. If you want to save your $20, just put the sack over your head, spin around ten times fast, then try walking around the house.

On top of other questionable yet minor changes, it removed the original Doom 3’s ease of modding. Editing things like the shotgun’s spread and wraith fade-in frames could be accomplished with a text editor. It also allowed quicker creation of more nuanced mods - like a flashlight mod - within the week of D3’s release.
In spite of all that, The Lost Mission is great and the best piece of official Doom 3 content. These days its now playable outside of the BFG edition through ports like dhewm3 so it’s all water under the bridge at this point.

I had mixed feelings about it on release, granted I could barely run the game but still it just felt sluggish and while I wouldn't call it disappointing it was also not that impressive to me, I found Half Life 2 to be more impressive desu.
>>12008342
I don't know what to tell you man, I never had an issue figuring out where to go, I have never gotten lost in a doom game, Wolf3D I sure did tho. You are whining that the game doesn't tell you everything and clutter your screen with nonsense, you can say everything looks the same but that doesn't make you correct, I can not think of a single instance where someone even might get lost in this game, it's super linear and the path forward is always obvious. It's like saying you got lost in Crash Bandicoot or some shit my nigga. Maybe you should play more games or something idk.

Dude I literally did come to a broken elevator and did not know what to do.

I did see some pipes and was thinking the game wants me to jump and move on them.

I found a secret cash of armor there however I figured that the game did not want me to go this way.

Tried to walk up the pipes to the next level because elevator broken...

Did not work.

watched a lets play.
>Ah yes there was a small ladder behind these crates!
>Next to closed top port where 99% of them do not open in this game!
>If you walk up this ladder then it opens magically unlike 99% of the other ones who are decoration!

That was retarded.
Everything in this game looks the same.

> Maybe you should play more games or something idk.
Funny how I did never have this problem in other games like
HALO CE!
HALO 2!
HALO 3!
BIOSHOCK 1
BIOSHOCK 2
Bloodrayn 1

That was cryptic and the reason people watched lets plays to figure out how to progress in games or used gameFAQs

The game is basically
>Autistically try to interact with everything in the level and look at every cornet and small thing.

And this does not for a nice walking simulator make!

I didn't like it because the guns felt weak and the enemies didn't react to them, the structure was repetitive and tiring (literal monster closets aren't scary AND the demons can literally teleport so why are they waiting behind walls), and the visuals in a lot of areas were pretty dull. It also feels like that surf Dracula meme where you only go to hell for like 3 seconds right at the end.
>>
>>12008981
>and the enemies didn't react to them
The enemies react to your attacks, some more or less than others.
>>
I think I'm one of the few people who likes this game without much equivocation. I don't really consider it a "Doom game" gameplay wise, and the gameplay is fine, but for me it's 100% about the atmosphere. I find it an absolutely gorgeous game to look at, I probably spend more time looking at the environment than anything else. I also happen to like finding and reading the PDAs. Together they do a great job of making you feel like you're in a real base that's slowly being taken over by hell.

That said, the Soul Cube is a terrible gimmick that basically ruins the already limited challenge once you get it, and the final boss fight is among the worst I've ever played. And Nightmare mode is an absolute joke, it forces you to speedrun the game rather than make the enemies harder / more numerous.

Still, I play it every 4 or 5 years just for the vibe.
>>

How are people still seething about doom3 20 years later? When it came out I thought it was incredibly impressive. It scared the shit out of me too. I had the Xbox port but my dad bought the pc version so I played both. it wasn’t a perfect game but no game is. All I know at the time was that it was really cool to me and that’s all that matters. replay value? Doom 1 and 2 are better. but if you were there in 2005 it being so different, having such excellent atmosphere, it being so scary, and everythinf looking so cool and fleshed out was like jumping into the future when you compared it to prior doom or quake games. it wss one of the earliest games I played where I felt like I was REALLY there. not just playing a game.

Not really, and for better and worse D3 was still closer than a lot of its contemporaries: You at least still had a full weapon selection, a large and varied enemy roster, and not much that got in the way of that besides audio logs (no leveling, no perks, no skilltrees). Serious Sam and its clones were halfway there as well, but they arguably had even less of an emphasis on "classic Doom" level progression.

DOOM3 started the 2000s trend of making dogshit graphics who look worse then anything before it because
>Muh dynamic lighting meme

>it was incredibly impressiv
In what?
It was INFERIOR in every possible way to games on the Quake 3 engine.

> it wasn’t a perfect game but no game is.
COPE the game is incredibly shitty.
Graphics = shit
Gameplay = nonexistent
Horror = a joke.

>How are people still seething about doom3 20 years later?

>Why are people taking about retro games on /vr/ ??? Me not understand!

>It scared the shit out of me to
LOL no. Unless you where like 5 or something.

I repeat what was spoken about this game a decade before

>Even as a survival horror game, DOOM3 strikes a sour note by not really being very scary. The darkness is more aggravating than scary, reminding me of the Dead Alewives every time I got fed up with being confronted with another pitch black room and ended up witlessly attacking the darkness. The sound design is banal, offering little more than monsters that all sound alike, machine-room ambience, maniacal laughter, and weapons that sound like cap guns. DOOM3 fails to set an atmosphere of horror, but succeeds at building one of scalp-clawing frustration. The game's scary for about 5 minutes, until you realize that it has nothing else to show you. This is how the first encounter goes:

2/3
>>
>>12009830
>>12010829

>You'll notice that every time something attacks you, it invariably bites you in the ass. This is because the designers decided that you'd eventually get smart and clear rooms in a consistent, safe, professional manner, and realized that this isn't very scary. To combat this, monsters CONSTANTLY spawn into existence directly behind you, typically after the lights go completely out. This is a profoundly cheap trick that the game plays on you in virtually every room and hallway, which forces you to walk through every room and corridor spinning around in moronic pirouettes. Monsters will either appear in a flash of red light (very unfair) or-- and this is the really stupid part-- wall sections just big enough for the monster to hide in will slide away behind you, letting each beastie hit you in the back. That's right, this entire base is designed with seamless, impossible-to-notice hidden wall sections that slide away silently, concealing closet-like alcoves that contain zombies. Throughout the entire vastness of the base, there were technicians and marines sealed helplessly in these hidden compartments at the EXACT moment the entire base was possessed by demons and evil spirits. What kind of idiot do they take me for? It'll sicken you how often walls just zip aside allowing zombies or demons to pile out, where they never could have been in the first place.
>>
>>12008929
>Worked on my machine

>I didn't like it because the guns felt weak and the enemies didn't react to them, the structure was repetitive and tiring (literal monster closets aren't scary AND the demons can literally teleport so why are they waiting behind walls), and the visuals in a lot of areas were pretty dull
