I’ll give Iwata credit for being a former dev who was always game-oriented, and for his attempt to emulate the spirit of Yokoi, he just wasn’t very good at it. He had no concept of quality control and even less appreciation for third parties than his predecessor. His best quality was his understanding that games are the most fun when there is a social element.
The quality of Nintendo games is pretty consistent across all of their platforms.
