Honestly, I've given so many NES games a chance but almost all of them are either boring, unreasonably difficult or cryptic as fuck.
Even 1st party titles are pretty bad. Zelda 1 for example is literally bootleg-tier.
i'm not hating on the NES for its technical limitations because the gameboy has an infinitely more interesting library despite being more primitive. at least it has exciting stuff for it going on like pokemon.
>>
>>12010448
And yet the only two games you explicitly mention are zelda from 1986 and pokemon from 1996 which were released 10 years apart.
>>
>>12010448
Give more examples please. What are four boring games, four unreasonably difficult games, and four excessively cryptic games? Cut it down to three if you want. But surely your "so many" includes at least nine games in total?
>>
>>12010448
I, for one, welcome this new technology that enables a child to turn its tiktok hot take into a 4chan shitpost with absolutely zero effort.
>>
>>12010448
Mario 3 is goated
balloon fight is goated
contra is goated
Zelda 1 and 2 are okay I guess

Really can't think of any other decent NES games that are worth looking at today

Get newer bait next time

Play Megami Tensei II, it’s kind of like Pokemon

Is your only experience with the console through the NES Classic Edition?

>I hate old video games! They're boring and cryptic!
>Where should I post about this?
>Who needs to hear about my strong dislike of old video games?
>Ah, I know, /vr/!

Why are people like this?

10 great NES games (in no order):
1. Mario 3
2. All the Megamans
3. TMNT Manhattan Project
4. Kirby's Adventure
5. Dr. Mario
6. Little Nemo
7. Little Samson
8. Blaster Master
9. RC Pro Am 2
10. Metroid

There are many others. If you can't appreciate the NES in some way, you're on the wrong board.

no a hacked Wii with every NES, SNES, Genisis, GB/C/A game on it.

Ive never understood this mentality, Its not like the presence of a newer game means that the older experience suddenly becomes invalid. All of the games listed are basic picks and fun experiences to this day

I never understood why Balloon Fight always got so much hate, I feel like people saw that it was a black box release and assumed its controls were as shitty as Ice Climber's controls.

Video games did not get good until the 16-bit era. I can count the number of genuinely good 8-bit and prior games on 1 hand. When the 16-bit era started it was damn near impossible to find a truly shit game.
>>
>>12011913
How'd you get so many fingers on that hand

>When the 16-bit era started it was damn near impossible to find a truly shit game.
This is a pretty amazing thing to say, good job anon. Usually people here don't surprise me
>>
>>12011913
You just have shit taste/got filtered by slight challenge.
>>
>>12010862
>Why are people like this?

It's not even a real opinion that these people are belching out. Nobody is capable of holding it as an opinion. Look at the allegedly superior alternatives being offered: Game Boy and 16-bit consoles. The hardware is almost the same as that of the NES, the game design concepts are almost the same. You get a slightly faster CPU and a somewhat higher or lower color count, plus minor graphical gimmicks and optional portability, none of which changes the games much. Nobody can sincerely believe that the NES is so far inferior to any of these other platforms as to be made irrelevant by the other's existence. It's not possible.

What these people are doing is venting vague feelings of grievance they have using malformed words that don't really even represent those feelings but at least seem to vaguely relate to them, which is good enough to satisfy the kind of lazy kidult who decides to troll like this. The grievance itself is directed toward you, someone who likes things that are good but that the idiot has failed to find value in. The idiot resents your role in hyping these good things that seem bad and wants to hurt you while briefly easing the burden of bad feeling through emotional venting. Hence the posts.

t. SEGA fag.

Most of the games are shovelware, it’s similar to the ps2 in that it has a large library of great games and an even larger library of trash

all the megaman games
most of the kunio games

They don't, but if we suppose time is finite and someone is discovering games, it's better to go for the better experiences first before time runs out.

how do atari 2600 games stack up against NES games? surely NES games have to be better or more advanced than those?
>>
>>12013045
>surely NES games have to be better or more advanced than those
Yes
The vast majority of NES games have actual endings.
The vast majority of Atari 2600 games are high scores only.
The difference between the two platforms in night and day. Compare Pitfall for 2600 with Super Mario Bros. 3
>>
>>12013057
out of curiosity what is the size difference between games on the 2600 versus the nes? yes many of the 2600 games ive played as you said are high score centric. sort of like mobile games of the past but they had an excuse of being on the cutting edge of what was possible at the time.
>>
>>12013057
Pitfall 2 is kino though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81TuNwizPKA
>>
>>12013064
Early 2600 games were 2KB and most games after were 4 KB (Pitfall 2 is like 10 KB but that's more of an exception)

Early Famicom games were 24 KB (Donkey Kong, Popeye, etc)
SMB hit the limit without mappers at 40 KB
Later mappers allowed NES games to be huge (SMB3 is 384 KB, and Kirby's Adventure is 768 KB)
>>
>>12013010
>>Kids beat those games
kids from the 80s maybe, lol
im a 2000s kid, but i remember borrowing one of those NES collection GBA carts from my friend and thinking: "wow, old mario games suck". only people who grew up with the NES actually think its good
>>
>>12013081
there was only 6 years between the release of the 2600 and the NES it looks like thats crazy how much larger the games were relative to the times. i suppose thats like a N64 game compared o a gamecube game though or a ps1 disc and a ps2 disc.not sure if there is an order of magnitude difference or not between the two jumps proportionally or not.
>>
>>12013138
>NES collection GBA carts
"Woah Fusion and ZM were awesome, I have to buy the Metroid that started it all!"
>copy paste room after another
>with grating beeps and boops audio
GARBAGE.

Super Metroid was decent. Prime 1 and 2 were amazing.

Damn that's sad. For you, I mean.
>>
>>12013270
sorry old man, they're all trash, SNES is the cut off for me, I genuinely cannot play anything older than SNES games
>>
>>12010787
I was fine with NES FF, DQ and Mother 1 but giving MT (and then also SMT1 where the NES part isn't an issue) a shot I just didn't care for it. I wonder if I just can't into DRPGs, but I also wonder why.
>>
>>12011956
Challenge has very little to do with it, the NES has plenty of piss easy titles and ball busting difficult ones. The honest truth is that most of these games either couldn't achieve much due to the limited coding knowledge or the lack of powerful enough hardware. Most of these games had insanely short development times and it shows, bugs galore little to no story telling, extremely simple gameplay, terrible graphics and audio. There are not many games that go above and beyond the typical dross you find on these systems. Now I will say again there are titles that do go that extra mile and really are great games. Things like Metroid or SMB3 are amazing games.
>>
>>12013269
I didn't grow up with an NES and I love it. POW, Flying Shark, Jackal, Gunnac, Zanac, Arkista's Ring are all fun. There are more too but I have alzheimers and can't remember them off the top of my head. It's a great console if you don't mind ugly graphics and skill-based gameplay.
>>
>>12013491
Oh, and Contra of course. Contra's timeless and OP is retarded.
>>
Admins and mods should just nuke this board at this point since they turned it into /v/ 2.0
>>
>>12013498
This board is better than it's ever been and you're just mad people are allowed to shittalk Nintendo without getting banned now.
>>
>>12013274
So like if you played Tetris & Dr. Mario for SNES you'd have fun but if you played Tetris or Dr. Mario for NES the tumor in your brain would pulse and you'd just pass out or something? You're making it sound sadder and sadder. Good luck on getting better as you age
>>
>>12013198
>Super Metroid was decent. Prime 1 and 2 were amazing.

This outright made me laugh. Usually I feel like I'm surrounded by mentally ill people when I'm here, but in this thread it's more a feeling of being surrounded by embarrassingly awkward teenagers.
>>
>>12013138
And? You're pretending to reply to somebody who was complaining about difficulty, not about overall quality. You're 20 or so and you STILL don't know how a conversation works? When you say "Im a 2000s kid" you can just leave out the 2000s part
>>
>>12010448
Bait thread
>>
>>12013992
>embarrassingly awkward teenagers
keep in mind the average age of someone with the opinion you quoted was probably too young when the snes was new and old enough when the gamecube was new, ~30 years old.
>>
>>12013473
>little to no story telling,
o no perish the thought
>>
>>12014017
Seriously, everything wrong with modern gaming is when games wanted to be less like video games, more like an interactive movie without hard challenge. Like those television shows from Fahrenheit 451. It's not that story driven games are bad, they are good with the right design, aka show; don't tell: let me play, not watch cutscene after cutscene, when I could play out your story instead.
>>
If you’re that dumb you just need to read the manuals. They didn’t put the instructions in the game to save on memory.
That seems to explain all of your grievances.
