Sonic Adventure's original lighting was really ambitious and dynamic, it's a shame they had to downgrade it before launch

Absolutely not, the Saturn had its chance to have its own debut 3D Sonic game and SEGA fumbled it hard. Releasing Adventure for it would have made the game worse and fuck over the Dreamcast even harder.

I do think the other character campaigns are inferior to Sonic's. More resources going towards making Sonic's story longer by adding additional stages would have been preferable.

It started on the saturn, thats Sonic Jam's world, it was like 4 month work. But Sega told them they needed to make a Dreamcast version instead and then worked on that for like 9 months.

Yes. But the start of Shenmue was something else, it wasnt originally a VF RPG or Shenmue at all.
Anyways, Shenmue was always meant to be 1 and 2(including Shenhua in the forest,you can see it in that saturn video). Sega during the Dreamcast said to make 2 games instead. 1 was just the prologue, 2 was the start of the journey and even 2 was meant to have 6 discs but was canned(and they had a part of Guilin done) due to DC's incoming death.

This was what sold me on Shenmue. And this was supposed to be from fucking 1998 in some China event which shows both games we got but sightly different, which pretty crazy how much they had done back then.

Tails' campaign is just a halved and truncated version of Sonic's, with an upgrade that you're never required to use. Knuckles Amy and Gamma needed more levels. Fuck Big, playing as Big is miserable.

The biggest issue was the fact that aside from the Hot Shelter, there weren't any stages that weren't just reused from Sonic's story, so variety was limited.

Big is retarded but it does only take like 15 minutes to beat his entire story. It's just a forced mini-game. Gamma's gameplay needed to be entirely reworked. That and Tails/Eggman in SA2 are awful.

SADX GC has specular combined with per pixel lighting

Many of the original DC assets are still present on the pre release version
Even the lantern engine. They ported successfully the original lighting system of SA1 into DX but they decided to make a new one in the final release

SA1 DC both diffuse and specular lighting use color gradients, and specular has a fixed direction
SADX GC the specular is view dependent so the highlights rotate when you move the camera but the plastic look is because they crank it up very high
