Are flash games retro?
>Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted).Grey area according to the pinned post, but I figure any flash game released before 2007 should be fine to discuss.
There's a flash game I've been trying to remember for years. It was a very basic adventure/puzzle deal with pixellated graphics, an eagle-eye viewpoint and a fetch quest line. I THINK the goal was to get a gift for someone's birthday? All I really remember is that Kirby was an NPC you could talk to, in the game.
>>12013607IMO not at allmodern games feel like they got all their design lessons from flash games, so they're basically the proto-modern game
>>12013616Elaborate
>>12013621Maybe the proto indie games, what the fuck are you talking about?
>>12013607YES
>>12013607>i live my life one quarter of a MB/s
This board is so nonsensical, everything with the label "retro" is. Imagine the same logic applied to music, people going to classical music forums and asking "Is The Velvet Underground classical?". If you're not an automaton, you discuss a vibe and an aesthetic, not just old things for the sake of being old.
>>12013868You say that like there isn't contemporary classical music
>>12013607kek meet n’fuck series is definitely retro
>>12013902Space mission and the biker one was pure kino
>>12013624for me it was mario crossover
>>12013868If you have any sense you follow the rules so your posts don't get deleted. Or else you buy or hack the site and change the rules, I guess. Are you proposing some sort of revolution? Doesn't look like it, so why talk as if you're above following the rules?
Desktop Tower Defense is still the only tower defense game I've liked. Everything else has boring lanes
>stick RPG was made by someone that lived in my citythank u xgen man
>>12013612I really need to look up what games behemoth made before Alien Hominid
Forget Flash, what about Shockwave? THAT used to be the platform everyone made web games on with flash being considered a joke that could do crude animations at best, until Macromedia basically starved Shockwave and put all of it's features into flash.I remember playing Shockwave games like Lenny Loosejocks back in the 90s.
>>12015573there was a shockwave game called hurtle turtle that i loved as a kid and blew my mind that it was even possible to play in a browser. I remember a period where there was a mixture of both shockwave and flash games on most sites and it was odd to me when Shockwave died as it seemed the more advanced technology. also while looking for this game i discovered a site called Legacy Shockwave which preserves a lot of these games, which is pretty neat (can't find this one though sadly)
>>12013607dont mind me just putting the best retro web game of all time here
>>12015573I absolutely loved Lenny in Space as a kid
>>12013902MEET AND HUH???
>>12013621imbecile retard moron (you require all 3) many flash games just copy or innovate over older arcade or atari games or maybe nes and snes by your logic atari games because they lead to mobile games like flappy bird are proto modern games and not retro
>>12013615Frank's Adventure 3?
>>12015956It controlled similarly but none of the Frank's Adventures are it. It was probably some no-views game on Newgrounds. Thanks, though
>>12013615Was it The Legend of Zelda and the Lampshade of No Real Significance?
>>12015672Ha ha, you always were a kidder Steve!
>>12015573>ShockwaveCartoon cartoon summer resort and a good amount of other official web gamesEven got ported here:https://mattbruv.github.io/ccsr/
>>12016048>Legend of Zelda and the Lampshade of No Real SignificanceHOLY SHIT THIS IS IT ANON THANK YOUYOU HAVE LANCED AN AUTISTIC BOIL I HAVE HAD FOR A DECADE
For me, it was war bears. I played a few flash games cause I knew about new grounds and ebaums world as a kid but war bears was the only one that actually felt like a legitimate game. I looked it up right now and surprisingly it's still up to play. I strongly suggest it, it's a fun puzzle game.
>>12016546>ShockwaveI remember this shit, it would always fail to load on my computer. used to piss me off>>12013868Quit acting like a jackass. You're not retro, your post isn't retro. And in this house, Doug Yule is a hero. End of story.
>>12013612I found Chainsaw the Children hilarious but Dad and Me kind of disturbing and sadistic.
I recently tried half a dozen different flash game and browser game sites, some I knew from before and some were new to me, and fuck me someone made them so hard on an older pc that my pc almost had a heart attack just from browsing the catalog on these sites. Then when it was time to test some old or new browser game which based on the gameplay and graphics should run on a 2003 nokia phone, my browser and pc almost froze completely when the intro started haha. It didn't matter if the browser game was on some modern game engine or html5 or if it was some flash emulator, everything just immediately jumped to 100% and everything was completely unplayable.I understand I'll probably need to update my gear at some point but goddamn. Absolutely horrible. Even my pc should have to use something like 0,1% of it's power to run these funny browser games, which actually was the case like 5-10 years ago when I played these games on the same sites and same pc.
>>12016586> it would always fail to load on my computer. used to piss me offYeah, I feel ya. Feel like I missed out on a lot of web games that way, but then again the ones that did load were usually the better ones and the ones that didn't probably were shit anyways... though I remember this kind of shit would be on the internet one day and gone the next and one generally doesn't pay attention to the names of these games at the time, so who knows.I know there was some Sabrina Teenage Witch cartoon game on Toon Disney's site or something and it never got to load, and then in short time Toon Disney got a rebrand, so who knows what that game was really like.
>>12015609>can't find this one though sadlyBro, Flashpoint has basically every browser game and animation ever made, get it asaphttps://flashpointarchive.org/downloadsDownload the Infinity version, I'm sure you'll find it there
>>12013612pretty sure I played flash games on windows xp well into the early 2010s on my potato pc at the time, I think majority of them would be allowed following this criteria
>>12015672I played that one lol
>>12015573shockwave was where it was all at, incidentally may have been the source of all those viruses
>>12013607Flash games are essentially proto mobile slop games. There are a few half-decent ones for sure, but overall the design philosophy set the stage for modern indie/mobile garbage.
