Any other retro games like harvester? Especially games where there's a large amount of optional content and interactions.
>>12014121I would also like to know. Harvester is my first (non flash) point and click game. How similar are the Phantasmagoria games?
>>120141902 is probably what you want if you want something more like Harvester. Personally I think 1 is mostly boring while 2 gets fucking weird and that's the appealing part of harvester for me. >>12014121Also you both might want to try the I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream point and click game.
>>12014194Thanks anon, you actually confirmed my assumptions. From what I looked up, 2 seems like a really weird trippy game while 1 looks like a generic slasher.
>>12014121Sanitarium has similar vibe, but hardly any optional content.
>>12014554Yeah, Sanitarium is very similar to Harvester. It's not as good, but it's got a similar feel in some ways.
>>12014575Is Sanitarium this stupid and so-bad-it's-good? I remember it having a more legitimate non-ironic positive reputation.
>>12014829I loved Harvester for what it was, not "ironically". That said, Sanitarium takes itself more seriously, if that's what you mean (it's still very surreal, just not as campy).
>>12014194phantasmagoria 1 is a far better game than 2. however, 2 is much, much better art than 1.also it had what i'm pretty sure is the earliest canon bisexual protagonist in video games.
>>12014829No, Sanitarium is actually thought provoking, not a really long and lame shock joke for attention.
Armed and Delirious/Dementia is an insane gane with a ton of goofy interactable content
did anyone else try to use cheats for extra ammo on the third floor of the lodge and end up corrupting their saves? thankfully I was able to fix it.
>>12014829Sanitarium takes itself seriously. Completely different tone
>>12014974>No, Sanitarium is actually thought provoking>literally just 'killing kids bad, mhmm'
>>12015770Not that Anon, but as someone who liked the game, I didn't really care for the actual "real" plot, I enjoyed the game more the atmosphere
>>12015758No. I did have to use cheats to get through it because I just plain didn't have any ammo by that point and it becomes impossible to progress, but it worked fine.
>>12015839There's a password setting in the menu that you'd think is for entering cheats but is actually for parental controls. If you try using it and then enter a cheat normally it'll write whatever you enter to LOADSAVE.DES and screw everything up, at least on the gog version.
>>12015867I thought I just entered the cheats directly while I played the game or something. I dunno; it's been a while.
>>12015826That's valid. I just don't really think it's very thought provoking lol.
>>12015901>I just don't really thinkYup.
>>12014121I got you pimp. There's a bug that makes it so you can't see the typing text bar, but 99 percent of interactions are a simple Y/N. I also reccomend pressing backspace and down once before typing Y/N. Other then that, the game runs flawlessly and has some of the greatest pixel art I've ever seen. There's also a shit ton of refrence material baked into the game's UI that helps explain everything you're seeing/experiencing. Been fascinated with the game for many years and finally took the plunge last week with my brother and a buddy and we had an amazing time just exploring the town and seeing all the weird shit there is to see. It's also an easy download and it's fully translated by someone who clearly gave a shit. 1993, enjoy buddy. Harvester rules.
>>12014121Also forgot to mention, saving is done with Ctrl+S. You just save the file anywhere you need to, and when you resume or load the file you have to type your character's name, as it serves as a password upon booting a save up.
>>12015949Faggot.
Bloodnet and Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller. They're chock full with areas and characters that literally often don't matter to the end game. It must've been fun to dream up technology that could one day feasibly exist and be half wrong and maybe get a couple of things right.
>>12015978>>12016014Wow thanks
>>12015901There are no thought-provoking video games.
>>12014121>large amount of optional content and interactions.metal gear solid
>>12016827With the metal gear games there's lots of easter eggs but usually only one way through the story. It isn't until MGS3 where you can do stuff like kill the end early. In harvester the main puzzles of each day are mostly on rails but there are tons of different ways you can interact with the characters of harvest. I think the developers would've added way more stuff if the production wasn't so tumultuous.
>>12014964Earliest MALE one anyone, and one where it doesn't condemn it.
>>12017696anyway*, I meant
>>12016698I hope you enjoy it. If you run into any issues just let me know. I'll keep an eye on the thread. Currently playing it myself and feel like I'll probably be playing it off and on for years to come.
>>12018630Are there any tricks to avoiding death early on? I read there's a karma system so I guess if you're a nice person then your reincarnation will be better off.
