Tell me about the Mega Man X games. I've only played X1 and maybe parts of 2 and 3 that I can't really recall. I liked X1 more than the classic series desu, I don't know if that's a common opinion or notBut I bought both legacy collections and look forward to playing them...which are your favorites/what's underrated/overlooked?
X1 and X4 are the best onesX2 and X3 are pretty goodX5 and X8 are mediocre at bestX6 and X7 are dogshit
BURN TO THE GROUND WOOO BURN TO THE
>>12014605X6 is extremely fun and challenging, it's not built for autist challenge runs.
>>12014605X2 is basically more of 1, they are on the top.
>>12014614I love fighting a floating donut that has no animations
>>12014616X1 and X4 are way more tightly designed than X2
>>12014619Why are you fighting it? Use a screen clear and it's done in 2 seconds. Go back to exile hideofbeast you loser fuck.
>>12014623X2 is tight as fuck, all action from the get go. X4 is the different one with less platforming challenge and more enemy design thought for Zero
>>12014571X1 is the only good one. X2 is decent. X3 is mid. Rest are completely useless trash.
>>12014660X4 is as good as X1
>>12014616You just described X3. X2 cut a lot of features that X1 had in favor of speed. X3 brought back a ton of things from X1, but featured more verticality and an edgier atmosphere: since it was so rare, a lot of faggots here apparently didn't play it at release (and I'm not even referring to the zoomers parroting YouTube opinions), so they find it boring compared to the only X games they played in their childhood (usually X1 and X4, maybe X2).
>>12014664Don't kid yourself. X's gameplay sucks in X4, which is a corridor simulator and a game devoted to Zero's new gameplay.
>>12014670What X1 things were removed from 2 and brought back in 3? Riding walking mech suits?
>>12014675I played X in X4 and I had a lot of fun
If I'm terrible at 1-6 will I necessarily suck at the X games?
>>12014606WOOO WOOO
>>12014571The first 4 are really good.
>>12014606Ahhhhh BURN!!! BUEEURN TO THAA GRROU!
>>12014704>I played X in X4What?
>>12014637>he's still mad about this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl6QM4hUft8
>>12014704It's decent fun, but it's a downgrade in virtually every way from the first three. Imagine permanently taking away X's capabilities and calling that better gameplay.
>>12014773>Needing to get your opinions from a youtuber
>>12014780I already had that opinion before seeing the video, he just expresses it pretty well
>>12014707No, since the controls are pretty different. If you master using the dash button (configurable, but traditionally with "the claw" hand configuration: right index finger over A), you will much more easily beat the X series. There's way less chance of falling into a pit in it than in Classic Mega Man because of dash-jumps and especially because you can climb and hang on walls in the X series.
>>12014785You play the game with nothing but the buster and unarmored X?
>>12014773>cat faggotI have no idea if your video aligns with my opinion or not nor do I care, troon.
>>12014798Why are you so mad?
>>12014696>Riding walking mech suits?Sounds like you haven't played them in a while. You can still do that in X2 (eg, Wheel Gator's stage). The order you defeat the bosses doesn't affect the level design environments of the other levels like it does in X1 and X3, however.
>>12014571>x1yeah it's the best one, only annoying part is having to start with chill penguin unless you're doing a challenge run>x2/x4mostly solid but the levels are so short, x2 has great bosses (except wheel gator) though so that makes up for that one>x3personally it's my second favorite, especially with the zero project that lessens the amount of backtracking you have to do. great music and solid levels (except doppler 2) but the bosses are pretty lame>x5sucks ass and is really slow, great music at least>x6sucks ass but is at least mostly fast, annoying ass fortress levels that require parts to even enter and i wanna say you need the flying armor to beat them, maybe not though>x7couldn't even beat that garbage, watch a longplay if you wanna know the plot (spoiler: it was ligma all along AGAIN)>x8playing this one now, better than the last three but it's pretty hard honestly and for annoying reasons unlike say the zero games. they retained x7's ability to have two characters swappable mid level and that's really cool though
>>12014962No Command Mission?No Xtreme 1-2?
>>12014773He actually likes the game if you check the last video.
>>12014571>X1Great, but too easy.>X2To me it's better than X1 except for the aesthetics and soundtrack.>X3Somehow not as fun as the previous 2 and has a bunch of gimmicky features like the ride armors or Zero, still good and worth playing.>X4People overrate it. Cool anime cutscenes but has some of the most boring level design in the series. You can play as Zero and he's cool. Ok game but not as good as the first 3.>X5Best lore if you're autistic enough to care about it. I find it slightly better than X4 at some points, worse at others, and Alia annoying you all the time with tutorials sucks. Also has a weird RNG mechanic that can screw up your progression. No reason not to play it if you enjoyed X4.>X6Actually challenging game and I like it more than X4 and X5 just because of it, but it's kinda jank. The mechanic where a level randomly goes dark is extremely annoying. Apparently there's an impossible jump in one of the later levels depending on your setup but only people with bad taste wouldn't always have mobility chips equipped anyway so I only learned about it years later on youtube.>X7Was my first PS2 game and even that bit of nostalgia can't save it. Might be worth a playthrough to laugh at it.>X8The most gimmicky stages in the whole series, absolute garbage platforming for most of it. Just as bad as X7 but just by being 2D and having a better plot people tried to gaslight themselves into thinking it was some sort of return to form.tl;dr: play at least X1, X2 and X3
I'm playing through X and the stages themselves are easy but I'm barely beating the bosses, I'm so bad at this shit
>>12015161You did start with Chill Penguin right? The leg upgrade you get from his stage completely changes the gameplay
>>12015201I did, I'm currently stuck on Spark Mandrill (fight)
>>12015242I lied, I'm stuck on Armored Armadillo. I've beaten Penguin, Storm Eagle, Spark Mandrill and Flame Mammoth
>>12015242>stuck on Spark Mandrill (fight)
>>12015256Mandrill is way harder if you don't use his weakness.
>>12014571just play x1-x4 and pretend everything else doesn't exist.
>>12015394Not really, aside from his charge attack which gets me from time to time when he's in the middle of the room.
>>12014571>X1Absolute classic. The PSP remake is decent too.>X2Also pretty damned good. I get it mixed up with X3 a lot though.>X3See X2.>X4I don't get the big deal with this one. It is fun and the cutscenes are cool but it is just okay.>X5Like a less okay X4. It is still reasonably fun though.>X6Utter dog water. It was slapped together fast and it shows.>X7One of the worst attempts I have ever seen at transitioning a 2D series into 3D. Borderline unplayable.>Command MissionI liked this one quite a bit for what it was. It is a decent simple JRPG and I liked the new party members a lot. The plot isn't great but I am just happy that it didn't pull another Sigma twist.>X8I like this one more than most people did. I thought it was a strong entry to go out on. It would have been kind of sad if the series died with X7. Shame it seems to be tainted by association with that one.
>>12014980I hate the way the charge in the GBC games interrupts the music (which I always thought was better than the 16-bit tracks).
>>12014571That's the common opinion. The good X games >>> classic Mega Man >>> Th bad X games, you mileage may vary based on which X games you end up liking
>>12014614>X6 is extremely fu-cking shit.
>>12014795>he thinks anyone wants to play the red sissy hero
>>12017078Use a screen clear, non-player.
>>12014571>I bought both legacy collectionsCongratulations, you're probably going to have a lot of fun.>I liked X1 more than the classic series desu, I don't know if that's a common opinion or notDisregard the popularity of your opinions and just enjoy the games you want.>which are your favorites/what's underrated/overlooked?My favorite of the X series is X4.X2 and X3 are the logical evolution of the first X (the 3rd is specially challenging), and X4 is a big jump in quality in general.Sadly Capcom didn't manage to produce another title like it, and the following X main titles miss the mark to varying degrees, BUT most of them are still enjoyable and can give you dozens of hours of fun (except X7).My advice is: keep your expectations in check (don't expect each title to be an improvement), and if by when you're done with the collection volumes you still want more, play the Mega Man Zero games and Mega Man ZX. If you loved playing as Zero in X4 you'll most likely like them quite a bit as well.
>>12014637>this game is shit>no, it's not! you can skip the shit parts!Uhh, okay.
>>12014571x1 > x2 > x4 > x3 > x5modded > x8 > x5 > x6modded > x6 > x7x1234 are all amazing. some people don't like x3 as much.x5 and x8 are kinda good but could be better.x5 has amazing fan fixes.x8 has 2 gimmick stages unfortunately, so really it only has 6 stages.x6 has fixes but its basically trying to fix an unfinished game.x7 is shit but people are trying to fix it. lol.
>>12017242>x8 has 2 gimmick stages unfortunately>Opening stageok>Gigabolt Man-O-WarRide chaser stage, no traditional Mega Man platforming>Avalanche YetiAnother ride chaser stage>Dark MantisAnnoying stealth gimmick but I give it a pass>Earthrock TrilobyteWhole stage is about the sub boss gimmick>Bamboo PandamoniumRide armor stage but I guess you can ignore it and play normally>Burn RoosterDownward auto scroller with no enemy variety, technically traditional platforming but a poor level>Gravity AntonionAll about the gravity switch gimmick>Optic SunflowerA series of ranked mini-games, extremely gimmicky>Jacob elevatorNo real platforming, just a combat auto-scroller>Boss rushThe obligatory Boss rush>Sigma palaceActual platforming, good even. Then the game ends.Looks like more than 2 gimmicky stages and even the non-gimmicky ones have barely any fun platforming. None of the gimmicks are particularly fun or enhance the normal gameplay either. They also homogenize the 3 characters a little bit since they all interact the same with the gimmicks. They're not even challenging. That's why I said in a previous post that it's just as bad as X7.
>>12014605Calling X8 Mediocre at best while calling X4 one of the best ones is hilarious to see
>>12014571X1-3 play like ass but x4-6 have cancerous levels
>>12017374>X1-3 play like assHow the fuck would anyone think that
>>12017504Nobody thinks that, it's just a contrarian take to feel special and unique
>>12017242I fucking hate how ugly X looks in the ending credits of X3, gave him a baby face.
>>12017683Ah...better.
>>12017504>>12017624Controls gravity and speed are worse
>>12017374There's this good series called Mega Man Zero....
>>12017796lol
>>12014605objective truthfpbp
>>12017683You're posting an AI upscale of a shitty low res screenshot.
>>12017683This is a highly distorted image, as it's an AI upscale from a very low resolution video, but the characters do look somewhat inconsistent in the X3 animations. X himself sometimes looks more "manly" than usual at some points in the intro, character proportions tend to be inconsistent, and Zero changes designs from X2 to X1.
>>12014571>X1, X2 and X4All great games, in X4 you can play the entire game as Zero if you pick him at the start.>X3Ok, you can play as Zero (but not for the whole game).>X5Ok, but Alia's (the navigator) interruptions really breaks the flow of the game, there's some weird RNG related to the shuttle's launch if I remember correctly.>X6Very questionable level design at times, I really dislike one with the red donuts and the Nightmare effects. I remember the OST being pretty good though. >X7I'm not sure if I played it. Either way, people consider it the weakest one in the main series.>X8I like it, I think it's ok.
I'll say the same thing I said last time. X7 sucks and everything else is at least decent.5 and 6 are messes, but the error was in the lack of polish, not in the core design. This is why fan patches basically completely fix what's wrong. This could not be possible so easily if they were truly bad games. Even 2 and 3 get much of the same even though they're more in line. >lol patches don't cou-The fact it is possible to increase a game's quality so much through simple changes should speak for itself. Fans tried to do it for X7 too. They failed. This is because X7 is actually shit.1 is not as good as people say. The balance is horrible unless you go buster only. Pretty much every following game nerfed weapons appropriately.>weapons? haha you didn't beat the-people are allowed to suck at games. if you can beat it with lemons, congrats...but pretending that's the intent is retarded. ergo, X1 weapons are stupid.8 is as good as it gets but they also made it way too easy, even for the average kid, and it's too minigame-prone.
>>12018532>Fans tried to do it for X7 too. They failed. This is because X7 is actually shit.It was just one Korean dude making slight changes, doing random shit like changing the weapon weaknesses and not even using the fucking PAL version with the correct damage numbers.
>1>4>8>3>5>2>6>7
>>12014675Zero sucks ass in X4
>>12018532>Pretty much every following game nerfed weapons appropriatelyThis is actually why X1 is the best
>>12018532>weapons? haha you didn't beat the-I'd say the opposite. The whole selling point of Mega Man in the first place is that he steals his enemies' weapons, and that you're constantly changing weapons through the stage. If you don't use the boss weapons it might be harder but it's no fun at all, the game you beat might as well be anything else. Nerfing boss weapons but massively buffing the default weaponry to the point that the X4 charged shot basically destroys the whole screen for example, is incentivizing you to do the least fun thing the most.
>>12018594These games are about engaging with the challenge of the stages/bosses, so if weapons are absurdly powerful and bosses all get crushed through weaknesses, the game would become uninteresting. However, X4 doesn't balance things well either, for reasons you've mentioned. I'd say that a good balance is achieved in X2 and X6, where weapons can be useful to beginner players, but gain more use if the player is skilled or when a player uses them in tandem with the buster, but in both games, there's still options to ignore this entirely (armor in X2, Zero in X6).
Who is the hardest Maverick in X1 in your opinion? Using just the mega busterSting Chameleon?
can someone enlighten me on why people consider x1 the best one? It's a good game but i think x2 levels and bosses are way more fun than on the first game, also the gameplay on x1 seems quite slow compared to the other games.
>>12014571>X1-X2Rocking.>X3Fine but flawed.>X4Enter the new retard team, controls go to shit, flat level designs, half the bosses now vanish for no reason.>X5Worthless game.>X6Crap.>X7Dumpster fire.>8Weird mix of stuff that work and stuff that don't, eh.
>>12019697The armadilo is hella annoying. Same goes for the chameleon.
>>12020010Legendary level design, basically. That's it. Turns out fine-tuning your levels in a game that's mostly about platforming is good.
>>12020539It's more about pacing and being designed to be really satisfying for a casual player. Some of X1's stages are very basic or have filler segments, which is easier to see if playing without the dash/upgrades, but they're exhilirating for a player who does use upgrades and keeps moving, and weapons allow a player like this to not worry too much about making mistakes as a beginner. X2's levels are more fine-tuned and have more depth to enemy sections and platforming, but they're slower-paced and demand you to learn the game more, like how there's a lot of different ways to get to certain spots.>>12019697Chameleon and Octopus, no doubt. Mandrill can be challenging buster only + no upgrades, but he's still very forgiving compared to these two.
