What the fuck is this monstrosity
>>
>>12015829
>The Sega Saturn launched in November of 1994. As with almost all gaming consoles, game makers were given access to developer kits (dev kits). One of the first dev kits for the Saturn was called the Address Checker, and it was enormous compared to commercial units.
>A Japanese collector of vintage video game hardware and anime paraphernalia tweeted a couple of pictures showing off his Sega Saturn Address Checker. The dev kit was used to ensure games did not break any of Sega's memory usage rules.
>The collector, who goes by Ranma on Twitter, says the unit is worth about one million yen ($9,650). Ranma did not share too much information about the dev kit or where he got it. He claims to be a former Sega Saturn developer, so it might be one he held on to for all these years.
>The most notable feature of the Address Checker is its length---it is about three-feet long. To give it some perspective, here is a Sega Saturn sitting inside an Address Checker chassis (below). Later versions of the dev kit were not much bigger than a standard Sega Saturn.

Thank you anon. This can be a dev kit thread now, I suppose.

It should be gutted and turned into a shitty gaming PC case.

The Saturn… is saved…

long saturn is loooong

that would be the infamous laserdisc/saturn combo that let you masturbate to laserdisc anime while also masturbating to your saturn anime imports

Careful, Sega might call the police on you
>>
>>12015829
That's just a normal a Sega Sssaaatttuuurrrnnn you fucking retard.
>>
>Launch this to the public
>Saturn saved
>???
>Profit
>>
>>12016105
See kids? This is why you don't run public fundraisers to buy this kind of shit. People sell this kind of crap ALL THE TIME with no problems, but when you start running fundraisers which get articles written about it, of course your odds of a company feeling obligated to take action increases.
>>
>>12016272
Same goes with emulation. Wow! Big shocker the technically illegal means you used to play a companies games got taken offline because you kept openly discussing it in youtube videos seen by millions.
>>
>>12016105
Nintendo pressured Sega, that's why the police were involved.
>>
>>12015837
Desktop dreamcast is bad ass.
>>
>>12016371
Emulation is not illegal.
>>
>>12016537
>Emulation is not illegal.
It doesn't matter. Don't you get it? Illegal or not, Companies can use their massive influence and money to shut down websites. So stop drawing unnecessary attention to projects. Keep it under the radar.
>>
>>12016537
>Emulation is not illegal
Not in every country in the world. Nice try.

I am the KING OF EMULATION and by royal decree, I declare emulation legal everywhere in the universe!
As such, the matter is settled.

rack mount saturn?
>>
>>12016272
This is why you don't be a faggot and ask for stupid amounts of money in the first place. Just dump the fucking things online for free or you get what you fucking deserve like this retard.
>>
>>12016537
Emulating the hardware is legal, but distributing the copywritten code is illegal.

Yeah, and having a patreon then telling your subscribers they'll get early releases of builds so they can pirate newly released games doesn't help their case.

If you have protos and don't dump them online you should kill yourself

I know you're joking, but Sega will restart production of the Saturn in our lifetimes. Or at least parts for it. We're about 3 years away from it getting a brand new killer app, 5 years away from it being a mainstream opinion that it's the best Sega console, and 10 years away from demand outpacing supply once everyone decides its the main retro console to own.

Eventually, Sega Saturn will be the 5th Gen Honda Civic of consoles, unless someone starts making them again you won't be able to find one, and they will go for ridiculous stupid prices that make it unjustifiable to buy one. Leading to Sega resuming limited production.

Officially licensed reproduction has already started on controllers. Multiple firms reproduce action replay carts/other variants. Translation and improvement patches release at a higher rate than all other non-nintendo platforms combined. Bad games like Doom and SotN have been completely rewritten to be good games. Next will be 8-bit console/pc emulators running directly on Saturn, and then new full-length titles for the console like we see on Mega Drive right now.

Wait and see. What I'm describing would have already happened on multiple Nintendo consoles if Nintendo wasn't braindead.

Because it's selfish and an indicator of psychopathy.
>i (some random guy that didn't even work at [game company] and isn't the rightful owner of it anyway) have this cool unfinished game
>NO you (other random guy that didn't work at [game company] either) can't play it this is MINE
>..b-because it just IS, okay? w-why are you all calling me an asshole
>>
>>12019615
Yeah, the guy who has something tucked back in a drawer is the psycho, not the group of people online who are irrationally angry about it and wishing death upon him if not making actual death threats.

to do absolutely nothing. If niche hobbyists wanna make homebrew software for a 30 year old dead platform that's their prerogative, but Sega's not gonna resume Saturn production in any limited capacity for the hundred or so nostalgiafags who'd care.

You absolute rube.
>>
>>12019630
If you have had a prototype in a drawer for years and made no attempt to dump it or get help dumping it you are reckless at best. CDs take 10 minutes to dump and Hidden Palace is willing to assist with cartridges.
The world doesn't revolve around you, you don't get to keep gaming history and enjoyment of it to yourself just because you were the first one to see it at a garage sale.

best argument against appreciation for game development
>>
>>12019668
also beyond that i think it's worth noting that the vanishingly rare instances of modern hardware being released for older consoles were for consoles it's dirt cheap to release for - aside from that one mcdonalds promotion the only example i can think of of a company actively supporting modern development on older platforms is atari with the VCS/2600 and even then that's shockingly minimal
not to say sega couldn't make a small amount of money from making some kind of mega drive game production line for modern devs to do extremely limited runs but the appeal just isn't there financially and the saturn specifically doesn't have the modern install base to really justify it
not to say it wouldn't be cool or anything but it just feels immensely unrealistic
