What the honest hell even is this video game? What's going on?
It feels like they just took a bunch of mini games, and attempt to tie in the entire anime series into 1 game.

Seriously, anyone who played this for at least an hour, did you enjoy it? Is this game fun??

Doesn't help that this was Japan only released and the text/voices is all Japanese too.

Yes. It was kino.

And it came in a time where mecha anime games were rarely faithful to the original shows (in many cases the devs even chose to invent their own original stories and casts instead).
I also enjoyed the Macross Plus PSX game a lot.

I like the Mario 64 ending music.

Not all the angels were killed the same way. Like one was killed with a gigantic laser rifle from afar. Another was a spear toss. Hence why there are varying game types.

You can kinda get the gist of what to do, even the start of the level shows you which buttons you'll be pressing.

i have to wonder "why" this was an n64 exclusive

I got rekt by mission 1 and gave up after about 10 minutes. The controls (for that mission) felt really rigid and unintuitive. I assume the rest is like that too but I don't speak moonrune and it seemed like it'd take a lot of trial and error. Still, it seems to "do Eva right" which is nice.

For the fighting portions the lower your synch ratio the more ridged the controls are. When you get 100+ synch ratio you attack a bit faster, able to easily do a three hit combo, and have other grabs open up to you. The easiest way to get a huge synch ratio boost is to win an AT Field clash.

I find it neat how most of the 'cut-scenes' are JPEGS and they only have their mouths moving.

Neat way of saving space on the cartridge I guess.

That makes sense, I ignored the sync ratio. It'll help whenever I try playing it again. The vid in OP makes it apparent that it follows the story well.
Pic very mildly related

you just had to get good at the timing. you can beat the levels without taking any damage if i rememebr right. the controls helped convey the sense of it being a giant fuck huge creature/robot.

>>12017609
i seem to recall there being enough attacks that you could see different things on different playthroughs depending on how you fought. made replaying and experimenting fun.

>>12017613
dont be retarded that was probably the best option, what should they have done, 3d model every character? they would have looked like metl gear solid models. this at least look semi authentic to the show.

He said he found it neat you dumb shit.

On emulators it looks all fucked up with glitches and all but real hardware and crt it looks pretty nice yeah

Also if anyone that is going to play this, look up the controls online obviously unlike being a teen that just tried everything. For the fighting segments A does a basic attack, B does a dodge when pressed at the right time, and A+B will do a shove if you have low synch ratio and a grab when the synch ratio is high.

I belive it is either up or down + A that does a lunging duck boot that sends the angel flying, but you need a high synch ratio for that. Down C activates the AT Field to block attacks. If AT Fields clash then mash A and Down C altering between the two (at least that's how I do it) to win the Field clash. If you lose a Field clash you can't use it anymore.

Also at high synch ratios if an angel is far away you can hold R and to the angels direction and you will go into a running mini game. You press A, Up+A, or Down+A when your Eva's eyes light up to perform a running attack.

You must beat Easy to unlock Normal and Normal to unlock Hard. Mission 12.5 is locked behind Normal and mission 13 is locked behind hard.

Yeah, different synch ratio levels give you additional attacks and change up your attacks. Also you have other conditionals as well. Such as for the first mission you can beat the angel without ever losing your umbilical cord and never going berserk. Then of course you can go berserk mode as well in the first mission if you get damaged enough and get hit by a certain attack. Same with mission 2 in which you could beat it without ever getting thrown into the mountains and then taking out the knife.

These animations of these special attacks save to the game's cart and you can see them on the movie mode (iirc you have to unlock it).
I remember I didn't get all of them, I remember missing some from the battle against Eva-03
>>
>>12017853
Yeah, there's so many. I don't think I'll ever unlock them all. Unlocking all the missions and all of the firing ranges is good enough for me.

I think they try and make you feel like Shinji felt when they first dropped him in the robot.
