Anecdotally, all of the friends and extended family members I knew who owned N64s in the late 90s ended up getting PS2s in the 2000s, but never buying a GameCube. Those of them who I'm still in contact with speak fondly about the big N64 games like Mario 64, Zelda OOT and MM, Smash 64, the Rare games, and many more, but will look at you with a blank expression if you mention any GameCube game, even the most popular ones like Sunshine or Melee. It's not just that they didn't like them, in some cases they don't even know the GCN games exist. It was like Nintendo ceased to exist for them after 2001.The crazy thing is that some of these people owned only N64s and never had a PS1, but still ended up switching to PS2 without even considering the 'Cube. Why did this happen?
I’m not going to fucking tell you.
>>12017647A) DVD playerB) Nintendo IPs outside of smash were weaker than their predecessorsC) As people grew up they wanted to play Grand Theft Auto and games with Anime titties, not bing bing wahooAnd I like me some bing bing wahoo here and there, I’m just talking about market trends
>>12017647What made the N64 so much more successful in the west than in Japan is it was cutting edge in terms of 3D and a big time FPS console. The people who bought the Gamecube were Nintendo die hards who had to have their first party games. Everyone else who had an N64 found what they wanted either done first or done better or both on the PS2 and Xbox.
because the N64 fucking sucked dick
>>12017647>n64 was a kinomachine>ps1 was a kinomachine>shitcube had nogames, a shit controller, no backwards compatibility, fucked up its 3d mario, fucked up its 3d zelda, spawned cubie speleetroons, no third party support, and no online>ps2 was a kinomachineits simple really
>>12017675Use real words, faggot.
>>12017672>he got his N64 to suck his penisWhat's your secret?
>>12017662>B) Nintendo IPs outside of smash were weaker than their predecessorsI honestly think this wasn't even a factor. Like I said, the people I know who switched don't even know GameCube games existed. "Super Mario Sunshine" isn't even a name they recognise. Nintendo could've put out a 10/10 sequel to SM64 and they might not have even known of it.
>>12017675GameCube had more third party support than N64.
6th gen consoles where uninteresting to me but I did get a pre chipped ps2 in 2004 to play downloaded games on. After the n64 i was mostly a PC gamer
Because despite what the gamecube babies telll you, the gamecube had a very weak software lineup.DVD player helped, but by the time the Gamecube came out you had a full year of software, plus PS1 back compat, it was sorta a no brainer to go with a PS2 over a NGC.
>>12017647
>>12017647Because they had to stick with the N64 instead of getting the PS1.They didn't make the same mistake again next generation.
>No Rareware>Low quality sequels compared to N64 titles>No Online>Can't play CDs and DVDsI was a N64 tendie faggot but I grew into a full-on dudebro with my Xbox. The first time I saw Halo, its majesty overwhelmed me. I was blinded, paralyzed, utterly dumbstruck.>Has Rareware (Tecmo, Bizarre Creations and Bungie)>High quality games compared to GameCube>Xbox Live>Can play CDs and DVDs>HDD>A great controllerIt was a shame we missed out on Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, though PDZ turned out to be a disappointment anyway. They really should have brought in Free Radical Design for that, but that's a whole other discussion.Back in the day, I was tempted to grab a PS2 since it was backward compatible with the PSX. As a loyal tendie idiot, I grew up watching games I wanted to play but couldn’t, like FFVII and Crash Bandicoot 2.The only franchise I missed was Star Fox, but Panzer Dragoon Orta... What a great game. it made me rediscover Sega. Imagine being a 16-year-old flipping burgers back in 2003, able to afford Sega consoles for cheap.I'm glad I chose Xbox. If I had gone the GameCube route, I might have ended up as an obsessed tranny with Smash Bros. or Mario Kart groomer. Nintendo fans often seem to have a very fucked up mindset.
N64 players looked at what was happening on the PlayStation and knew the writing was on the wall.
>>12018032Pretty much this. I was a Nintendo diehard through the SNES and N64, but by the end of that gen I realized how much I was missing out on, so I got a PSOne, then a PS2 the next year because that was for sure gonna have all the games. I still got a GC the year after because Metroid Prime and Smash were sick as fuck, but by then I had FFX, DMC, GTA3, and a whole bunch of PS1 games I could still play on top of that without digging out another console. It was just a no brainer for me.
>>12018059>The first time I saw Halo, its majesty overwhelmed meOh its THIS schizo
>>12018684No, this is actually pretty spot on for how console gamers felt when they saw Halo 1 in motion.
