N64 had a photowheel but the resolution isn't amazing. Potentiometers are jittery as shit, I just got TWR sticks and I'm amazed that that I can move the axis 1 pixel in the gamepad test and hold it there. An n64 stick also has to be pristine to even be comparable in the first place
