5th gen was objectively the peak of controller design.

>Saturn controller is the peak of 2D game controllers and objectively still one of the best controllers for fighting games and shmups, rivaling arcade sticks
>N64 controller allows for unrivaled precision in 3D games, not even modern controllers compare, games like F-Zero X still require the N64 stick to fully enjoy
>Dualshock is the standard for the modern controller and feels great ergonomically with the grips that were new at the time. Dpad and sticks are lower quality than the previous two but allowing use of both opened up new opportunities not seen at the time

Was the dualshock common or did most people stick with the og controller?
>>
>>12018542
It was fairly common. I had both an OG controller and a Dualshock.
>>
>>12018531
The real best of all time was the OG Xbox Duke. Midgets will mald.
>>
>>12018542
>>12018560
I had both too. OG was goated as all hell
The only real use I ever made of dual analogs on the ps1 was for Gran Turismo, where I used the right one to accellerate / break and the left one to steer.

Road Rash 3D has a similar control scheme, feels great.

>saturn and playstation
>immaculate controller
>nintendo 64
>loose stick
accurate representation.

around here, it was rare to see the big psx. though i had a friend with that one and a standard controller.
most people bought when the psone was the only option, so dualshock was everywhere.
>>

Controllers without two analog sticks are objectively ass. Obsolete and unusable.
>>
N64 controller's D-pad is really good. It's a shame so few games made use of it.

Agreed, also love how the N64 pad felt like a mix of Nintendo/Sony's diamond button layout and SEGA's arcade layout.

the sega controller instantly reminded me of this for some reason

It's basically the same as the SNES dpad right? Yeah I always thought it was great for how little it was used. Sucks they decided to go with the worst dpad of all time for the GC controller despite being able to play GBA games on that.

>zth gen was objectively the peak of humiliating trying too hard to fit in shitposting
Yes. Yes it is.
>>
>>12018542
Very common here, by 1999 I barely saw any og controllers at friends houses
>>
>>12018542
They started to bundle it with the system the same year it came out. So by 1998 every system sold had a dualshock. And most of the PSX systems sold post 1998 btw.

This isn't true anymore with premium sticks. N64 had a photowheel but the resolution isn't amazing. Potentiometers are jittery as shit, I just got TWR sticks and I'm amazed that that I can move the axis 1 pixel in the gamepad test and hold it there. An n64 stick also has to be pristine to even be comparable in the first place
