Why were the Sonic games so poorly optimized on the PS2?
Sonic games targeted GameCube as a lead platform.
>Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity[a] is a 2008 racing video game Uh oh, not retro
>>12019496Thread isn't exclusive to Zero Gravity only.
>irrelevant time wasting question>lust provoking image
>>12019861Then why post a non retro game in OP? You have like a handful of pre-2007 PS2 sonic games.
>>12019873Because i had no idea at what year ZG was released
>>12019428GameCube kids were the next big wave of Sonic fans after the original ones. Makes sense that the PS2 wasn't a priority.
>>12019428Not retro.
>>12019428Sonic games are shovelware with popular mascot attached. They’re on par with movie license games, but since it’s Sonic people pretend like they aren’t as bad.
>Why were Sonic games so poorly optimizedbecause its ST
>>12020101>movie license gamesSeveral of those were good in the PS2 era
>>12020291They ran well on the gamecube and xbox iirc
>>12019428Sonics Heroes - Gamecube gameShadow the Hedgehog - GamecubeSonic Riders - WiiSonic Unleashed - WiiAll Sonic games on PS2 were ports from Nintendo consoles.
>>12019428>>12019430PS2 was weak af and couldn't handle Sonic
>>12019428Sweaty bat tats
>>12019428It was a combination of the PS2 being weaker than Xbox/Gamecube, the games being built on Gamecube first, and Sonic Team having a harder time developing on it because of its weird architecture, and their lack of experience.
>>12019428>>12022248Sega had a PC division from the mid-90s, so once 2 consoles came out with desktop CPUs and they discontinued the Dreamcast, it was easy to move development to those systems. PS2 was a different story due to its complexity and unfamiliarity, and just being weaker in general. PS2 games functioned the best when the game was built from the ground up on the PS2 and then ported over to other consoles.
